Guest Bilo Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Is it just me or does Waghorn sound like a uniquely FoxesTalk term of abuse? Still, a young English lad from a Premiership club on loan does sound like a typical Pearson move and it has worked pretty well so far. In Nige we trust.
Hitesh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 At least he is a striker and not a midfielder! I trust NP judgement and as long as this guy plays wells and gets goals then I won't complain!
Cheese Me Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Never heard of him before but looks a decent prospect from the write up in Wiki and Keane seemed to rate him (I know it's not that accurate but it's all I've got to go on). And we need cover so I'm very happy to see a young prospect given the chance to impress
Dr The Singh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Dunno who he is, atleast we have some cover if we don't sign anyone!!
General Smuts Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Excellent news. Gives us some competition up front and means Campbell can fuck right off.
Jon the Hat Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Good to see Premiership clubs are trusting us with their youngsters again. Well done Nigel.
Hackneyisblue Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Excellent news. Gives us some competition up front and means Campbell can fuck right off. If only, we're going to have to pay him off. Or screw his career completely by keeping him but never playing him.
Babylon Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 On the Bench ... With Sunderland's Rising Star Martyn Waghorn Posted Jul 26, 2009 3:50PM By Jason Mellor (RSS feed) Martyn Waghorn has been likened to Wayne Rooney by more than one respected football observer. No less a figure than Roy Keane has predicted that the Sunderland teenager will enjoy a "long and successful career". So, no pressure there, then, Martyn. Even at the age of 19, Waghorn's has enjoyed a varied career, taking his first footballing steps at the Manchester United school of excellence before, at the grand old age of eight, returning to his native North-East to join the Black Cats. Since then, Waghorn has rarely looked back. In common with many of his similarly talented contemporaries, a loan move, followed, in this instance to Charlton Athletic. However, after an impressive start, injury deprived the player of valuable experience and the London club of a growing talent who could have helped keep them in the Championship last term. Back, fully fit and ready to impress this season, the offers are coming in for a player with deceptive pace and touch for one so robustly built and with finishing skills which can only continue to improve. Colin Todd, manager of Sunderland's League Two neighbours Darlington, says: "I'd love to take Martyn on loan, but I've been told there are a lot of Championship clubs interested in him." Steve Bruce will have a good look at what Waghorn has to offer before deciding between another loan stint, or continuing his footballing education by keeping him at the Stadium of Light to compete for the first team place that looks increasingly within his grasp. The Sunderland manger, who gave Waghorn chance to impress in the pre-seasonAmsterdam Tournament, said: "Since I came into the job, my phone's been red hot with managers asking about my young players, and that's testament to the great job being done at our academy. "The young lads have really impressed me and they'll get their chance to show me what they can do in pre-season." Waghorn, you suspect, won't need many opportunities to make a favourable impression.
Dr The Singh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Waghorn is what i get when i see Abbey Clancy Excellent FR!!
ronnup Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Sounds decent http://www.wikio.co.uk/sport/football/foot.../martyn_waghorn lots of good press here
Candidcamera Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 From a Sunderland supporter - He is a great prospect and very highly thought of.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Never heard of him before but looks a decent prospect from the write up in Wiki and Keane seemed to rate him (I know it's not that accurate but it's all I've got to go on).And we need cover so I'm very happy to see a young prospect given the chance to impress Does any footballer have a bad write up on Wikipedia...?
Babylon Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 It'll be interesting to see how he compares to Kee? Don't get them started. He might be prepared to play 3rd/4th/5th fiddle, Kee obviously wasn't as it had already been stated he wanted first team football. Thought I'd get that in before the "why didn't we keep Kee instead" camp start up.
Candidcamera Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He may be a little further on in developing - was in Sunderland games and on loan before. Kee sounds a good prospect but he may be better for his loan and games.
Hitesh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 If only, we're going to have to pay him off.Or screw his career completely by keeping him but never playing him. More likely screw our bank balance up by paying him ridiculous wages for playing in the reserves!
