Yeah it would be too small of a tournament. Even it was top 2 and then the winners of the FA cup and equivalent across Europe would actually give it some credibility.

It's a terrible rule that needs to change. If they win it they should have the right to defend it. Not automatically go into a better competition. Especially with teams no longer dropping into the Europa league it is so weak. Teams can basically sacrifice the premier league and still get into the champions league.
