The league is crazy because even now sitting in 13th if you look up the table there are only 2 teams you think right there are games to target all 3pts in Forest and Brentford after that I think we would be happy to take a point and not take a drubbing…I’m saying that not in a defeatist way but a reality of where we have come from. Watching Northampton smash Quins last night with 7 tries just highlights the brilliant job Tigers did against them last week.

Whilst none of us have warmed to Russell Martin I would imagine he’s someone on the list earmarked by the FA for future potential coaching of the national side. He has a team identity which is currently mocked by our fans despite in the next breath asking what’s Coopers team identity? There’s an assumption that because he’s struggling with STH currently then he’s shite, but do we not think he could walk into Man C training ground and not produce with that identity? Whilst Martin will be on that list Personally I think that the FA will be looking at McKenna for the future role, he’s only just signed a new contract with Ipswich which would have been costly to breakout of + he probably feels he’s wants a crack at the Premier now he’s there but in 2yrs time who knows? Howe and Potter are the obvious names that spring to mind due to the clubs they have been at/with but if neither were on the list and FA were looking at 10 other candidates then McKenna and Martin might have been in the thinking if not actually on the list this time round. Whilst the pool is currently shallow for elite English coaching talent the likes of McKenna, Martin, Rosenior & Still are all fairly new in their coaching careers throw in the elite players Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard & Carrick again new in terms of coaching + Howe and Potter that’s 10 i can think of without googling those abroad then you have the churn of Smith, Dyche, Moyes etc Who’s to say those 1st 10 won’t go on to achieve success, like playing careers they need to learn and then catch a break with certain clubs, which as already mentioned in other posts is hard to get because top jobs are few and far + the same coaches are currently on the merry-go-round. So whilst it’s thin now if we didn’t want to go down the churn route, in 4,5,6yrs time there might be a few more names to pick from, if precious about being homegrown that is.

I would add that any English manager especially new and especially deemed a once elite player do not get time, being up against it from their 1st game. It’s not even them being thrust into higher profile clubs, I’d wager if say Lampard took a job at Chesterfield he’d be written off if he hadn’t won a game after 5 matches, despite it being Chesterfield. All the jokes about Rooney after he turned up at Plymouth, again not given a chance, but now quietly going about his business. It’s social platforms & the media that big these players up only to take great satisfaction in knocking them down. I will await the same comments on this forum and media platforms when Jack Wilshere takes over at Norwich.

But the manager is the 1 that makes you win, lose or draw, if a player makes a mistake it’s down to the manager of course they should be seen every time so they can be held accountable 🤷‍♂️

The fixation on win, lose or draw is all down to the manager still amazes me, as if they control players from the sidelines. They will set out a base plan yes but players have to adapt to what is happening in front of them, they shouldn’t need a complete run down of this by the manager during a water break. As for the set up last night it was brave and there was some thinking behind it, how many on here have been calling for Kane to be dropped (myself included) then how many up until recently would actually say use Watkins or Solanke instead? The idea was pretty sound given the players we are talking about, they had the potential to be like the red arrows buzzing around switching positions and anyone of them popping up in the 9 position, these are some of the best players in the world, allegedly. England didn’t have 1 shot on target because the manager said I only want 1 shot on target, if those 5/6 players can’t fashion an opening between them last night not sure how sticking a 9 in would have made much difference if they couldn’t get it to the / that space anyway? Im glad he tried it because it was different, had he put Watkins in everyone would have just said mini-Southgate or should he have put both Watkins & Solanke on together to show he was different? Had it clicked last night he would be hailed a genius or more likely finally someone doing what we have all been saying for ages. Haven’t there been previous teams that have been successful without a recognised 9, haven’t Spain, Barcelona, Man C just as 3 examples done it, & you can’t scoff saying well they had x player because how many ballon d’or nominee's were in that 5/6? It took Iraola 10 games to get a win last season and that was against a poor Burnley side, Bournemouth ended up finishing 12th.
