“There’s no loyalty in football anymore”
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot replied to Phube's topic in Leicester City Forum
If you come through the youth ranks of a top team and are a top player you’re much more likely to be loyal, see lampard, scholes, gerrard for example. Than say if you come through the youth ranks of a average or worse team and are a top player and vice versa club to player. Then you have loyalty with players like praet, they’re loyal because nobody will ever give them another contract like that again. I reckon a lot of these Chelsea players on 7+ year deals who turn out to be hot garbage will be very loyal indeed. -
What Game Are You Playing At The Moment ?
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot replied to LeicesterBran's topic in Music and Gaming
Out of interest how many plats do you have? And what would you consider 1. The most difficult one you’ve got. 2. The easiest one you’ve got and 3. Which one took you the longest one to get? Also which was your favourite and least favourite? I’ve got about 25 plats and they vary in the above terms. I just read your posts a lot and you seem to plat a lot of games so I’m intrigued. -
Had no idea Potter was being paid by Chelsea until he accepted another job? Would make sense why he’s been unemployed for so long.
-
It’s Chelsea. If he doesn’t get top 4 this year and then win the league next year he’d get sacked. Anyone would, it’s how they measure success.
-
That’s why I’m trying to work out what makes sense with the 5 year deal?
-
5 year deal, Christ. So what is the thinking behind that? They’re going to back him come hell or high water over the next few years, even if they have a few stinkers of a season? Doesn’t seem Chelsea’s M.O. When was the last time they offered a manager a 5 year deal?
-
We would need a very good replacement, any thoughts? Not really up on the current state of goalkeepers outside the obvious.
-
I’m not bothered about him going at all. Not just saying that, I found us awful to watch last season, genuinely bored as sin. His refusal to adapt when we were on bad runs was shocking, credit for winning us the league of course, and credit for finally arresting the slide and getting us over the line. BUT on the other hand, blew a 17 point lead (as in we were second with 3 games to play), had by far the most expensive squad in championship history, and arguably the best, and didn’t break 100 points with them, his subs were always too late and rarely effective, didn’t utilise the squad at all and ran certain players in to the ground quite unnecessarily. Had a plan A and that was it, if it didn’t work we were buggered (happened way too often). I think we’ll have a much better chance of staying up with a pragmatic manager who will play to the squads strengths, more so than this guy I never warmed to. I don’t think it’s sour grapes on my part, he got us up he won us the league so obviously thanks for that. But in a similar vein to Rodger’s yeah he won us the fa cup but see ya later (don’t hold any animosity towards maresca, mind, and hate Rodger’s with a passion). Enjoy the big pay out at Chelsea either at Christmas or this time next year, I guess.

Wouldn’t mind potter at all just whether he would come to us or not. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but all we need is to finish 17th next year. I don’t care if we achieve that playing horrific football or great football, wouldn’t be adverse to Moyes at all.

Never a moments doubt, lovely jubly. Speculative e/w on rain in the last at 25s.

Magnussen is a total nightmare, causes so many accidents, seems every time I bother to watch a race he’s causing some form of carnage.
-
I’m on Fallen Angel in the Irish Guineas today. Took 5s this morning and shortened in to 7/2. Hopeful on this one.
-
Saturday is always the highlight and was a great session yesterday. Start can often be absolute carnage as well. I’ll watch an hour then on to the play off final unless it’s somehow exciting at that point. Leapordstown got the Irish 1000 guineas as well, good afternoon of sport.
-
That’s exactly what I thought but in terms of getting stuff done and knowing how to, he’s apparently a breathe of fresh air. I still think he’s a massive bell end but that’s apparently true of him, professionally.
-
To be fair to Gove and this isn’t something I’d have thought before working for the government. Senior civil servants will never say a bad word about him - he is apparently brilliant to work for and the most competent Tory by a country mile.

One thing I used to do a lot was when I was playing I’d literally just be throwing and when I hit a 140 or 180 I’d say to myself right that’s 361/321 left then, so a lot of my really good legs were artificially inflated haha.
-
I played to a really good standard as a late teen/early 20s, sometimes I’d think I’ll just throw for half hour and next thing I knew 6 hours had passed and I was just in the zone. Never hit a 9 but a few 10s, missed double 12 once. But my issue was consistency, for all I could play a 15ish dart leg reasonably regularly doing 30/40 dart legs without being able to finish was much more common. I recently put a board up, as in last week, as I’ve started a new job that’s quite intense and it used to relax me a lot, finding it still holds its value in that regard. Not hit a 180 yet but have managed a few 140s/123s/135s and hit a 126 finish last night. Could never play in a pub team or the like though because I just can’t handle the pressure of a lot of people watching.

Honestly I’ve pretty much fell out of love with football in the last few years and find myself watching less and less and caring less and less as well. But to answer your question I always found Liverpool under klopp to be enjoyable to watch, always played with a purpose. I guess that’s what I don’t like about it mostly, it just seems so aimless a lot of the time and keeping the ball for the sake of it rather than actually doing anything with it.
-
I found us incredibly dull in the majority of games I watched last year. I’m not a hoof it up and go for the second ball type by any stretch but Christ the passing round the back for the sake of it just bored me to tears. Especially when you’re on a bad run and losing, even when you’re winning it’s incredibly boring. I don’t enjoy watching Man City for the same reason.
-
I think the only thing that makes this result acceptable is looking at it thusly :- Man City win so the only team that’s inconvenienced is man united who don’t qualify for Europe. With man united winning it stops the pep love in, and all the spaffing over Haaland and Foden can stop for an afternoon. It means Newcastle don’t get Europe, and sod them, it means Chelsea go in the pound shop European cup and sod them. So all in all a great day for the neutral.

Someone steady to keep us in the league. Don’t hate the idea of Moyes.

Premier League Thread 2023/2024
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot replied to Nalis's topic in General Football and Sport
Sancho has done well since his loan move by all accounts, lots of very good players go there and just become rubbish. Can’t just be the manager or the board or the players themselves. There’s something in the culture at Man United that just turns everything to crap. -
Best Ever First Goal for Leicester
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot replied to StanSP's topic in Leicester City Forum
Was Ferdinand’s first goal for us when he put 3 players in the net along with the ball against Southampton? If so, that one. -
I watched this a while ago and just didn’t understand at all what was going on it confused me so much that when it ended I just thought hang on, what happened? Dunno if it was because the film was completely disjointed (I think it was) or I just didn’t follow it well enough. In your opinion what actually happened? I’d love to know and if it makes sense I would go back and watch it again as it had its hooks in me initially but just totally lost me on the second or third timeline change.

I understand he’s a great coach but I’ve never been overly impressed with him. He goes to teams who dominate their leagues, chucks a billion quid at it, implements his incredibly dull style of football and walks trophies. Obviously not just anyone could do that but a lot of competent football managers could. As said above if he went to a team like spurs or their equivalent in a different country and won trophies with them without spending the world I’d be a lot more impressed by him.
