I remember this initiative some years ago. If this became the norm and replaced conventional kitchen knives (unlikely in the near future, admittedly) it would be a small but step in the right direction.
-
Possession of a knife already carries a potential prison sentence, yet it seems to be epidemic amongst some groups. I can't see that education will solve the problem either. Surely most (all?) already know the risks. Heavier prison sentences perhaps? Is the threat of jail even a deterrent these days? I hope someone, somewhere has a solution.

Sadly, there are increasing examples of division and protests that are based purely on race, culture and religous beliefs and so on - even in our own city. Nothing hypothetical about those. I was merely responding to another posters 'what if' comment.
-
Looking at it that way, there are all sorts of hypotheticals. What if a white lad had gone into a prominently Asian group and commited carnage. It is a fair guess large numbers of Asian yobs would be out on the streets - as we saw only quite recently. The worry is, this response to such crimes becomes the norm and entreches race/cultural division even moreso and derails any sustained hope for a multi-racial society that co-exists peacefully and for the common good. There are already those that say multiculturalism is failing. This behaviour on all sides gives that view increasing weight.

Pre-Season Schedule Summer 2024
Free Falling Foxes replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
Seriously? Strewth! This season we might finish minus points and score more own goals than not. -
You see this so many times and it is about time it stopped. What's wrong with people? If you record something on your phone, hold it sideways (landscape if you like) Look at your TV for a clue on correct orientation.

Indeed. Also hopefully, any successful prosecutions will lead to the sentances and/or fines handed out, match those of other violent and distructive rioters in recent times.

Are you a fella? I reckon most men would rather have a kick to the head than the balls.

Thanks chaps. I do 'get' what you're explaining. I guess my view was based on the fact that, historically, any spare cash of mine went into a building society. This was my first (and only?) foray into investments and markets. To my simple financial mind, it seemed, for example, if you save 10k in a Building Society product that pays shall we say 5% after tax, at the end of the year you'll have £10500. Withdraw 1k and you'll have £9500 remaining. With this 'investment' (again 5% return) if I withdrew 1k, I would be left with £9290. Thanks for the examples you gave fellas, it is clearer to me now.

Enlightment/advice required please. I have a pension SIPP managed by an investment company. I have been pleased with the returns over the previous 12 months, as it has offered a greater return than anything a Building Society product could have offered. However, I need to take out a portion of my pot later this year, and If I understood my advisor correctly, if I withdrew £1k, a total of £1200 would be lost - £200 to the taxman. My understanding is, if my money was in a Building Society, tax is taken on any interest earned, not on the capital. Am I mis-understanding something?

World Football Thread 2024/25

5001/1. Greater story than 2015/16? -
I was just about to post that I'm surprised no one has yet posted.......

Good on him, highlighting this. New developments in that area, domestic, commercial and industrial are way too excessive already. Virtually every green space has been built upon or development is proposed/planned. And this isn't 'Nimbyism' either. We have had more than our fair share of development in our 'back yard', not to mention front yard as well as to the left and right of us. Enough is enough.

I think a problem with some bus drivers, is the highway code states that you should allow buses to pull out. Too many interpret that as they can just pull out without indicating and checking their mirrors.

Lead Performance Analyst leaves after 16 years

The club can get all the Performance Analysis they need from FT surely? -
For months after we had our first remote controlled TV, my wife insisted on keeping the remote next to the TV, meaning we still had to get up to change the channel.

Mob mentality Mob mentality -- also called herd or hive mentality -- is the inclination that some humans have to be part of a large group, often neglecting their individual feelings in the process, and adopting the behaviors and actions of the people around them.

I think you'll find that intelligence would have been gathered by the police from sources such as police 'spotters', CCTV, social media ect. Then, instead of going into rioting groups to make arrests, they'll be knocking on doors over the next few days. If charged, I hope they throw the bloody book at those found guilty of any crimes.
-
Perhaps they should bring back the reading of the riot act in these situations? Disperse or else*. *Respecting folks human rights of course.
-
I do hope it isn't largely a group of a certain ethnicity or culture that is taking part in these reported riots in Leeds. If it is, there's yet more evidence for those who will dispute the benefits and integration of our harmonious, multi-cultural society.

As some others have suggested, contact your creditors. In my role with the City Council, I sometimes supported folk with debts to contact those to whom they were debted to. They often asked me to carry out the call and once they gave the necessary authorisation, I would. In every instance but one*, the company/organisation concerned would be incredibly understanding, supporting and offer solutions. Some of the repayment plans they offered were, in my opinion, incredibly generous. *Post Office. Ironic, given recent revelations.
