  1. Not only that but someone's taken the P
  2. During the late 30s, a picture of my dad appeared in either the Mercury or the other Leicester newspaper (Chronicle? ) of him atop one of the prison walls. He wasn't an escaping convict however, he was carrying out some repairs/pointing-up. He kept a copy of the paper but it was lost. Many years later, I spent at least a couple of days at the records office trawling through all their microfilm copies of the local evening papers from 1935 to 1941 (when my dad was called-up) in a fruitless search to find the edition he appeared in.
  3. Talking of prices: passing our local Tesco and I fancied a Turkish Delight. Not had one in ages and didn't even know if they still made them. Well they do, so picked one up. I only had quid on me so checked the price. The lable on the shelf stated: Club Card price 80p. Below that, in small print, it stated £1.37/100g. The bar weighed 51g No idea if the 100g price was a 'Clubcard' price however No idea how much I would be charged as I don't have Club Card. So I threw myself at the mercy of the checkout girl, assuming a pound would be more than enough. It was.
  4. Walking behind a fella yesterday who walked with a real swagger. You know, throwing his shoulders forward with each step, head gently rocking from side to side as he goes, legs more apart than necessary, feet pointing diagonally to the direction he was walking. You know the sort. I think that they think, it looks good, that they ooze confidence, really cool. He looked a complete twat.
  5. If I was wrong with my original pic, let me correct it. This is deffo Grace.
  6. I have read that the lights look far better photographed than how they appear ro the naked eye. Also, when you see video of the shimmering, moving waves of lights from Iceland and so on, that has often been speeded up.
  7. Fat chance here in Glenfield, the night sky is lit up 365 days a year with the man made version. Reckon I need to drive or cycle out somewhere much darker.
  8. Grace Blakeley. Panelist on Question Time last night.
  9. I guess the BBC got it absolutely bang on with Michael Palin's travel shows. All his series were first rate so I guess it's possible they and other broadcasters, are trying to repeat the success. I agree though, most are downright awful imo.
  10. Completely missed my radar this has. Never seen an episode and infact only heard of it a little earlier today. Looks like I've got 10 years of episodes to catch up on.
  11. I fear you may well be right.
  12. Another aspect to living in the area you've mentioned is that living on the western side of the city/Blaby district border as I do, you feel we are subject to more development than other areas and a general lower consideration in other areas such as environment. We already have lost Western Golf Course to new homes and now another: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-68976929 We have had a very smelly new tip recently open near the former British Shoe site and the new development on the Western Golf site promises yet another - less than a mile away. Pollution is worse over here in anycase due to the M1 and other major routes and junctions. Leave us some breathing space for crying out loud. It does seem the area is used as a dumping ground - literally. Even existing resources are not maintained. The council recently reported public tennis courts were to see major renovations and investments but not the ones on Western Park itself. Sadly neglected, I feel.
  13. Always enjoyed 'You Rascal You' full title: I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You. Including lines such as: 'I'll be standing on the corner elevated, when they bring your body delapidated' and 'I'll be tickled to death when you leave this Earth you dog.
  14. Great post again Kushiro. I have a memory relating to Kingstones. My uncle whenever visiting another member of the family, would knock loudly on the door shouting, 'Kingstones'. Mimicing, I believe, that if you bought something 'on the never never' from the store, they used to come and collect the payments, announcing their arrival for all to hear.
  15. Have you had a doctor look at that finger?
  16. Traffic Lights. I once volunteered for a charity and one of my roles was to drive a minibus to pick-up some youngsters to take to their activities. They would often say that the lights were always on red when I drove but not for the other volunteers. I lost count today how many changed to red as I approached them. The only possible explanation is someone at area traffic control for the last 30 years, waits for me to leave home and then follows me on traffic cameras and then over rides the traffic lights as I approach. Can't wait for them to retire.
  17. Another VAR check coming. Had the second ball crossed the touch line before the goal was scored.
  18. Two up front. Who'd have thought it.
  19. I had no idea of the love that Dennis Wise has for LCFC. With this sentimental attachment, coupled with his footballing knowledge and his undoubted contacts in the game, perhaps he should be made the new D of F?
  20. We could do with 'Mr. Loop Hole' type lawyer who somehow demonstrates that Rudkin and Rodgers were at fault. Rudkin gets a hefty fine and by some bizarre legal quirk, Celtic get the points deduction.
  21. God bless America, land of the free.
  22. TBF, they have had some T shirts printed with an update.
