Too be honest my take on last night, the tactics are not the issue, it was the execution and the lack of fluency, cohesion and sharpness that cost us last night. I know people say the style is slow and laboured but I actually disagree, in this system it’s all about speed of thought and the ability to continually probe and manipulate the opposition and then exploit the spaces. Last night we looked disjointed, slow of thought and we seemed to take one/two extra touches or an extra second on the ball which meant we lacked fluency and didn’t create enough. For me that was largely down to the 6 changes, I have no issue with any of the individuals selected but in reality Coady, Akgun and even Winks all looked rusty and lacking match sharpness. I also think resting both Ndidi and KDH was a mistake as they offer so much in terms of running power and stretching teams. Casadei and Akgun are both quality players but as a pairing I feel we lose quite a lot of intensity. When Casadei played alongside KDH for a run of games withe the exception of the Leeds game he looked good. Akgun is a very tidy player who is calm and clever in possession but benefits from being alongside a midfield partner who can transition well and provide some physicality and protection. it was a flat and rusty performance and I think if Enzo had made 3 changes we would have won comfortably, it worked against Norwich but didn’t last night, I hope Enzo has learnt from this and moving forward we don’t make too many wholesale changes with players who are lacking match sharpness as it killed our fluency and team structure. If we do need to rest/rotate I hope Enzo always ensures we have one of KDH or Ndidi starting to retain intensity, running power and the ability to stretch teams. Disappointing evening but not going to over react, it’s still a fantastic platform we have built, Enzo is still learning and will make mistakes and get things wrong, last night was a case in point , but I am sure he will have learnt from this and hopefully we see a much improved performance on Saturday.

It’s one of the biggest positives of not being in the top flight, absolutely hate it, ruins the flow of the game, kills the atmosphere when a goal is scored, has diluted the refs authority and quality of decision making and most of all is getting so many decisions wrong. Absolute shambles. last nights penalty decision was a shocker no way Livramento can be penalised for the ball ricocheting from his chest on to his forearm awful decision, how the ref didn’t have the bollocks to stand by his decision I will never know. It’s so bad now it is bordering on corruption.

I thought the interview with Owen PA for the when your smiling podcast was absolute class, comes across as a very levelheaded and professional individual. He is clearly enjoying his football again and appreciates having the faith and support of a manager who believes in him. his first 2 seasons at the club were an absolute disaster and if I am being fair I am not too sure how much of that lies at the door of the player, it seems the treatment of him by the then manager is odd to say the very least. But what I will say is this season his performances, commitment and attitude have been first class and he deserves this redemption, just goes to show how easy it can be for a narrative to be put out via the media and for us fans, me included to lap it up and make ill informed opinions and judgements off the back of it.

I thought he was impressive in the Carabao Cup fixture against us. I see people are saying we don’t need him, however with the January transfer wonder around the corner and players like Souttar highly likely to move on, we will need squad depth to provide competition, rotation and cover for Faes. I think it would be a quality signing and another signal of our intent to move forward with a squad that has a healthy contingent of young hungry players.

Agreed he was poor but writing a player off for one game is a bit much.

My team Mads Hamza Coady Faes Ricardo Winks KDH Casadei McAteer Vardy Mavididi subs stolycrk Justin Vesty Ndidi Praet Yunus Fatawu Cannon Kels Hopefully a Vardy hat trick has us 3-0 up after 65 minutes and Cannon comes on for a 25 minute cameo

I honestly think they are easing him back after a fairly serious injury, ideal scenario would be to ease him in for the last 15-20 minutes of a game when we are 2 or 3 ahead and he can relax back into competitive football, trouble is both games he has been on the bench, we haven’t been in that position and the changes made were to try and force a result. Let’s hope we can get him some minutes on Wednesday evening.

Football is all about opinions, different people want/expect different things from their team in terms of style and performance. Personally I am really enjoying watching us play, for me it’s a mile off Rodgers Ball as you can see there is a clear plan and structure as to how we play at times some of our patterns of play are exceptional, however I also understand that some fans want to see us play a more heavy metal style and tempo, and this is a million miles of that. However this style overall is delivering results and we are still at very early stages in the process. Of course we will get the odd week where it doesn’t click and we lose but from what I have seen this season, and yesterday was no different, the style of play creates plenty of chances and opportunities we need to show more quality with our end product, if we do a few teams will get pumped by 5, 6 or 7. what was noticeable about yesterday, which was missing in the last few games was the strength and options from the bench, the return of Praet, Yunus, Ndidi etc gives us the chance to mix it up and bring on real quality, I felt before the break we were playing with less intensity as we didn’t have the options to rotate. from what I saw of the game, I thought Hamza was very good and did a decent job, he isn’t Harry Winks but he was good in possession and on transition he is more mobile and offered better protection to the back 4 than Winks does. -
What a great mini documentary, comes across as a real level headed and humble lad who just wants to play football, really hope he get his chance under Maresca this season, as I think he could have a massive future ahead of him, would be great to see him push on 2nd half of the season and establish himself in as a regular in the 1st team matchday squad.

These are my thoughts on what is likely to happen - Outgoings - Iversen, Souttar, Praet, Daka & Iheanacho Incomings - LB/LCB, No 8 & versatile forward (Bereton - Diaz). I also think we will announce Doyle has signed on a permanent basis.

Great pod as always, John Percy was excellent, great insight on the club. Fantastic work and please keep the pods coming, great mix of genuine football content and good laughs/stories. -
Disagree, too be fair after games the players have been class with the fans, having pics etc can’t really fault them on that score, they even respond to the helmets who shout out their surname rather than their first name.

One of the very minor blessings of relegation has been the opportunity to give more of a chance to some of our academy prospects, the emergence of Kasey McAteer has been a real bonus, with Wanya, Stolcyrk and Ben Nelson all getting first team minutes this season. The opportunity to give Alves and Braybrooke time in the 1st team environment in a side that is winning, has a great mentality and also play a high technical game plan will only help both players push on. Both will provide great options and cover from the bench and if they can come back strong with no long term effects, I can only see both flourishing under Enzo and his coaching team.
