There are a number of drivers to this. When I were a lad in the 70's my dad wouldn't even by a ticket beforehand. We'd just pay on the gate/day. We'd even go on holiday the July fortnight "on spec". Fast forward to now turning up and paying on the door is virtually unheard of. People have the means to pay for stuff in advance and are used to getting booked up. Population growth. Football in England and the rise of the Prem has meant a general upward trajectory of the support base. Leicester in particular I think the ownership of the KP in the early days got people thinking we were on a good footing and could go places. Not winning the Prem of course, I mean relative to where we were or had been in the years just before. It's hard to say what will happen ownership/team/performance wise and it's hard to say if things don't get better if there will be a fall off or how quick it will be.

I'm not and never have been a STH. But it's funny how fans are called "plastic" if they only support the club in the good times. Everybody admires teams that go down the league(s) and still return a large following.

As above people have all sorts of reasons for buying. There is never likely to be a complete collapse. I am glad there are still people willing to buy. It doesn't change what is going on though. And that things won't change until Top and Rudkin are done.

I think you have to divorce our current shit show from the broader state of the sport/world. Truth be told I think the English Premier League is fantastic from an armchair perspective. I also have good friends who are Liverpool and Man City STH who seem very happy with what they get. Must admit aside from City's win I haven't watched a Cup Final live for a long time but then it's the same with the Grand National. And the early stages of the CL and WC are a bore - later stages still a good watch and interesting though. I attended football in the 70's, 80's and I think some people forget how grim it could be. And if you we are talking of corruption - have we forgotten that infamous night against Atletico in 97.

Fans have nothing to be ashamed of. What's happened/happening is not on us.

IF (a big if) we stay up under Rowett, do we keep him on?
ourla replied to LCFCCHRIS's topic in Leicester City Forum
I don't see why not. Ultimately will make no odds whilst Top/Rudkin are running the show. He's a good Championship manager which is where we will be. -
Despite wanting Top to sell and Rudkin to leave with him I really don't want to see us relegated. Rowett has given me some hope, because I think he's no bs manager who will fire them up a bit but that is all it is. We've spent one year in third tier and it was dog awful. I really don't want to go back there. If I could guarantee Top would sell if we get relegated it would be tempting though.

When we say "King Power Out" a lot of people talk about what the owner has done for the club, how we have our greater success under this owner. But IT IS NOT THE SAME OWNER. King Power is just the banner. The reality is ownership passed from Vichai to Top. And it is not the same.

LCFC 3-4 Southampton, post-match thread
ourla replied to Phil Mitchell's topic in Leicester City Forum
From what I heard Southampton were dog awful in that first off. It wasn't even that we suddenly played brilliant. -
Really not that simple.

Potentially there is a way to go yet. I can't see any way out of this without a change at the Top.

Only slither of Leicester City joy at the moment is following Vardy in his Serie A adventure.

“One swallow does not a summer make, neither does one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy.” But yeah, great performance and result, let's see if there are more swallows to come.

We have Skipp until 2029 - ffs

I feel we are still papering over the cracks to be honest. Nice to be away from the relegation zone though and hopefully the team is gaining some confidence from getting a couple of results.

'I Want People To Be Closer' - Khun Top Speaks
ourla replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
I guess admitting that it's his fault is a start. And that there is a change in the boardroom is also encouraging. But a lot of damage has been done and his competence for owning and running a top football club is still open to question. But at least something is going on. -
Vichai brought us success, Top did not and has not. We can carry on and see if the latter changes but there is no evidence or logic to suggest it can or will. We aren't "a big club" but we are bigger than Brentford, Bournemouth or Brighton so not sure what the relevance is in many ways. So yeah, we come back to the question. Do we have an owner that can bring us success. Not Vichai, not King Power but Top. I'm not talking his personality, I'm not saying I'm not grateful for what KP i.e., Vichai did and has done for the club. The question is simply is right now, how is this playing out.

You need a non-toxic boardroom first

I don't share the optimism of the last couple of posters. Sure, many will be out of contract at the end of this season. But we are only 13 games into this one and we are in relegation form at the moment. And if we tread water our reputation and finances will deteriorate. So our ability to recruit coaching staff and players will regress. We will lose our parachute payments. And so on. And if we can't compete with the set up we have at the moment, how will we do with a lower budget sqaud.
-
Makes it clear that there is a failure of director/ownership level. So sad.
-
And people saying be careful what you wish for. Well, did you wish for this? Can you honestly see a change in fortune coming? Be honest now. The difference to many situations like this is Vichai's legacy. I wonder how bad Top will let it get before the penny drops.
-
Sutton and Shearer don't get it - any more than many of our own fans don't. We managed to keep the squad vaguely together and got Maresca in to get us back in the Prem. But that was papering over the cracks, eeking out what had been built over a few years by Vichai, Pearson, etc. Maresca could see it and jumped ship. The rest is history.

Arguably the council weren't convinced of the long term state of the club and/or ownership. And if that were the case, they were correct. However, I suspect that was not the case and they were just being their usual bureaucratic selves. Not that they are unique. Ultimately this is on the owners to see it through.
-
So anyhow, it seems to me we've slipped into this weird lull in the storm kinda phase. Top and Rudkin have kept their heads down trying to ride it. We've offloaded a few but kept plenty too. Made some modest signings. Got a young potentially decent manager in. My gut says we aren't in the sort of shape to do what we did last time. I hope I am wrong, I hope Top and Rudders prove me/us wrong. But I am struggling to see it. The track record is too long, the mistakes too many. But the wind is out of those who rallied against them (for now). We'll know a lot more 2 months down the line.

McLintock hands down but many fans will be too young to remember.
