Champions League Thread 2023/2024
Bordersfox replied to SecretPro's topic in General Football and Sport
Booked and injured himself. Wonderful impact on the game Soumare -
A bit delayed. We ended up going for a bonded pair of young cats rather than kittens. They are absolutely bonkers the pair of them and frankly the sooner they can go outside the better 🤣. Love a fuss and sitting on your lap but when they lose the plot and start chasing each other chaos ensues. Poor old Grampus is two years old and has had two operations on his eyes for a problem his previous owner didn't sort out hence the cone. The handsome black cat is called Prince Rupert.

This is a really great post. I know the other post to which you are referring and, to be honest, I was a bit taken aback when it was posted. I slightly disagree with the 'none of us can expect to be treated differently because we use this thread'. I think it's incumbent on all of us to respect people may be in a difficult place mentally and I have definitely taken that in consideration when replying (or not replying) to posts on the forum where I've seen that poster in this thread. @Rajmakes another good point that at times it's better to simply ignore a poster than react to them. I'm always worried about being in an echo chamber. But sometimes an echo chamber is the safe environment we need. When a poster was having a meltdown a while back Daggers suggested it was best that people just left things because things were not right in his world. And I took that on board and ceased and desisted posting anything about what was happening. If people are brave enough to post on this thread then I don't see why the rest of us shouldn't at least try and take that into consideration. On the flip side though, I do think if people are having struggles it's always worth thinking twice before posting on controversial topics or on things that might trigger them. I have had a tough couple of months, nothing remotely serious in the grand scheme, but at times I just know it's not worth getting embroiled in debates on here as it won't lead to anything positive mentally.

Superb listen, came across a really sound bloke. -
What an absolutely bonkers half.

Arteta having a melt down.

Not sure, Havertz was studs up with zero control. It looked bad and could have been an ankle breaker. However, totally agree on the booking of three gobshite players. A decision has been made, right or wrong, it's not going to be changed the rest is just nonsense. We've become so used to players mouthing off at refs, it's not acceptable, not necessary and is an ugly part of the modern game which filters down the leagues. The sooner it's stamped out the better.

Please stay and get angry at people. They generally deserve it and it's one of the highlights of the forum for me.

Bloody hell if Evans had tried anything like that for us last season he'd have been out injured for three months afterwards.

Casadei a statue for that goal.

Kdh from the sublime to the ridiculous at times.

I can't abide that level of lack of professionalism either. Squealing with Scouse delight every time Swansea went on the break. Shouting things into the mic like 'go on son' etc. You're being paid to provide what limited insight into the match your walnut brain can muster Lee, not act like a fan in the stands. Abysmal and I shall be writing him a hand written note expressing my disapproval. That'll show him.

Vesty 😂

Seeing the rather less polished side of Fatawu thus far

Please score and shut this over excitable Swansea pundit up.

Seems a decent bloke as well, touch of class apologising to Wood. Shame he's smashed us to bits -

Feels like batting first may prove pivotal, our players look dead on their feet before they've hit a ball. SA on the other hand can field in slightly cooler conditions and can sub some of their fielders like Klaasen who look very tired. That said, when you've got Stokes, Buttler and Bairstow in your side anything is possible. -

Big build up for De Kock from Athers. Out second ball. Gotta love cricket. -
Well they certainly are slippery but I think their own base and even much of their traditional supportive media have had enough. The grassroot, or more lefty elements, of Labour I think will, in the main, hold their noses and vote for Starmer as I will. The interesting point is about the younger vote. They tend to poll as more left wing, more supportive of Corbyn for example and more idealistic etc but will that translate into anything meaningful over the next decade? Or anything Labour needs to account for, votes they feel they need to win? I'm not so sure.
-
Starmer has no intention of embracing left wing ideology let alone far left, he's set his stall out clearly as a centrist with plenty of nods to New Labour is his conference speech. If they go much further to the 'other side' then they'll just be a slightly more competent Tory party. Most people voting for the Reform party will likely never vote Labour so they'll ignore them, a few may go back to the Tories but I doubt it'll be enough to win them an election. There's no soul searching to be done here and no real questions to be asked or answered as far as the Labour leadership are concerned. Steady as she goes. All they need to do is avoid a scandal of the magnitude of something like, I don't know, Starmer is a serial killer, and they will win a majority at the next election, probably a huge one. I expect the SNP will lose seats to Labour as well. One thing voters will not forget is Partygate and kamikwazi, amongst many other scandals. The Tories are done. Like a bad penny they'll be back, of course. But it might take them a decade to recover after this election.

The last time I checked the only nations that have recently invaded 'Muslim countries' (including after a terrorist attack) are Western liberal democracies. Which I'm sure is one of, but not the only, reason fundamentalists target us. China has also not been interfering with the Middle East for hundreds of years and itself has been the victim of imperialist oppression, via European countries and Japan, until relatively recently in historical terms. It just doesn't have the same target on its back despite the Uyghurs issue. I think these are more key contributory factors. Unless you are referring to China's internal security arrangements i.e. the fact it's a repressive, police state. I guess that helps.

Their total was below par on that wicket and we didn't really get close. Hope to be proven wrong but I'm not convinced by this England side. Everything about today felt tentative, I always thought Morgan had a clear philosophy that everyone bought into. I didn't think the prep leading up to the world cup was great either. We shall see!
