England home qualifiers are generally a dull exercise in doing enough to beat moderate opposition in front of largely disinterested crowds. The most memorable in the last 25 years were Greece in 2001 and Croatia in 2007, neither of which were won. The rest just merge into one.

We lost 3-0 at home to Palace (who finished 21st in Division One) in the League Cup to add to Wycombe. Two horrendous results. Brought in the destructive influence of Wise and Eric Hall whilst the standard of player dropped alarmingly. Lee Marshall, need I say more? His tenure almost finished us. Comfortably the worst, all things considered.

Terrific game. A real shame for the young Surrey supporters that this has fallen outside the holidays, sure a few more would have gone. Contrary to popular belief, youngsters follow counties too.

The short burst character limit on there plays a huge part of the problem. Look on here- most comments are of reasonable length and can add description and context to opening gambits. Constantly firing out "thoughts" in two sentences restricts that and condenses it all. As you say, take your time, step away and come back later.

The ECB care only about a format nobody else plays. Aren't interested in T20 and ODI and wing it in Tests. Not all bowlers and batsmen will be class across all formats like Archer, Rashid and Root. They need experience and preparation.
