Monsell1976 Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I've never hated Pearson, I respect what he has achieved for the club. I reluctantly decided he needed to go in December then we had a little upswing in form and I was pleased that we hadn't sacked him. Then when we didn't progress from there I decided he had to go at the end of the season. Even if we do stay up I still think he should be sacked, I don't want another season like this. That said it wouldn't take much to change my mind again.Im not a fan and have/ still want him gone, but if he does keep us up, he will probably stay.I just hope that if we do stay up, and they do keep him, and we are pretty much the same as this season, I hope they get rid early. If we don't stay up, get rid, and bring new idea's in my opinion. But my opinions aside, I will attend and back him and the players till our fate either way is sealed. Just living in hope we stay up, and spend on our many weakness in the summer.
Captain... Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I will always back Pearson as our manager, but it did reach a stage a few weeks when I had reached a point where I wouldn't have been upset had he been sacked. It is more for his attitude than what happened on the pitch. I've not agreed with all of his team selections, that is to be expected, but he needs to accept that he will be questioned on why he chose that team and explain his choice without getting all defensive. If we stay up he deserves to continue as manager, if we don't I won't be calling for his head. He has been frustrating this season picking bizarre formations, the awful diamond, the back 5 with defensive full backs, whatever that was against Swansea, not playing Albrighton with Ulloa nullifying both of their strengths, persisting with Konch when we were so much better last season with Schlupp at left back, spending 9 million on a striker then isolating him up front up on his own, them switching to a formation that would suit Krama and dropping him. The substitutions against Newcastle, there are more. In some ways I think he has done a decent job in that we have given a lot of good teams good games, but I also think another manager could have done so much more with the players we have. It has been a long learning curve, but hopefully it is clicking at just the right time and we can stayup and take this on to next season.
iancognito Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I've always backed Pearson even if his decisions have left me baffled at times. After the Palace and Stoke games I'd decided we were down and it was just a case of whether we should stick or twist. Then after the Hull game I said to my mate that it was difficult to defend him putting out a defensive-minded side when we desperately needed a win. Pearson's sides depend so much on momentum. We lost momentum two seasons back and it cost us promotion. We just kept rolling last season, the formation and tactics were spot on, the team was settled and even when we lost Dyer to injury we got Mahrez in. The problem this season is that we've never quite found the right tactics, never got a proper run of success and Nigel's been guilty of tinkering too much to get it right. He seems to have finally found the right set-up, finally got the players in positions that make the most of their ability. So at the moment I'm feeling like the faith is being re-paid. IF we stay up, no matter how it's been achieved, it's mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. Anywhere between 12th and 17th this year is massive for the club.
the-blue-wildabeast Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 Lets not get carried away, there are still glaring problems he doesnt seem to be able to address. 1. Still no real quality LB at the club which is causing us problems and will do till the end. Nothing we can do now but crazy we are in this position. 2. We are still unable to deal with balls in the box, whether from open play or set pieces. If Lescott puts his free header away it may have killed us off. For me Wes is the weak link in the air, get Was alongside Huth and sure it would improve. 3. Nigel got the first half wrong again at WBA, and while credit is due for making GOOD changes, we wont always get a chance to put it right. If Berinho passes it to Gardner, again, could have killed us off 4. Still doesnt seem to know how to get the best out of best part of £20m worth of strikers, including one we pleaded for a work permit as he would enhance our squad. Its great to see Vardy and Nugent doing well as to be fair they have grafted all season and had little service from a uncreative midfield, but we really need to get something out the others. For me Krammy is more likely to get goals than Ulloa, and pretty sure defenders dont really mind playing against Ulloa as he cant jump and has no pace, so pretty easy to mark out the game. 5. The west ham game could easily have been lost, while I think we deserved to win, every time they put the ball in box we were all over the place, and again, if they score rather than hit the post it may well have been a loss. We had some luck there, maybe due some to be fair. All the above said, I am delighted we are playing positive football and Nigel is getting some points on the board, I pray it continues and we can end what has been largely a disappointing and poor season, strewn with errors and odd decisions, in fantastic fashion, which will make from one hell of an end of season. 1993fox Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 Let's be frank, he hasn't been great tactically this season. Some decisions that do blow my mind sometimes. But I love the guy for what he's done for the club. I want him to progress with the club and he's the right man for the job. Even IF we go down, I want him in because I'm confident in his ability to get us back up and to make us stay here.
Guest Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 need to stick with him whatever happens. He's proven his worth, we're in the promised land and when he came we were on a downward spiral to our lowest ever point.
Donut Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I think these wins are more to do with the shit hitting the fan desperation factor than any tactical genius if im honest. West Brom did us a huge favour by seemingly trying to shut out a 2-1 win and playing 4 centrebacks on the pitch in the second half. They invited us onto them, the Huth goal just being a moment of in box pinball and nothing to do with tactics and the Vardy breakaway was an unbelieveable solo effort. I am DESPERATE for this club to stay up. I think my past posts have been unanimous in how bad i think the championship is and the damage it could do to us as a club. But these two wins dont change my perception that the club has been managed in an utterly terrible manner on many levels this season. I am DELIGHTED we have put ourselves in a position where it is basically in our own hands now, we can win the games. But what got us into this position in the first place was ineptitude.

COYF I have said pretty much the same, we have been starved of good results, and two wins doesn't make up for a shocking season, but does feel good to finally win a couple.People are looking at the teams around us, but now it's about our results, and like you say, the reason we have been so poor are still there. Difference is we have won a couple, so these issues can and will be dismissed To a certain extent. As I have said, let's hope it's not a false dawn, and we can do enough, and are weaknesses are not exposed to much.
Donut Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I thought it was our record points haul last season. I was referring to the decisions that had put us adrift at the bottom of the league this season.
justfoxes Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 My Pearson feelings..... Same here FairPlay on the superb description !
Guest Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 I was referring to the decisions that had put us adrift at the bottom of the league this season. Most of us came into the season hoping for 16th or 17th. With 7 games to go that is still within reaching distance. We do that and surely no-one can complain.
katieakita Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 Our board show more patience than probably any other board but throughout his time here in both spells NP has shown an ability to learn. The two times we got into the play offs we were no way good enough for survival. Forget the MM fiasco that set us back 3 years with the Sven money splurge NP has improved year on year. We romped the division last year and many on here called for a few additions and to give last seasons squad ago. Could have cost NP his job for the loyalty and faith shown in his team and mistakes he has made. However this season is based on 38 games not your league position in November or April it is May that counts. We are still bottom a good result next Sat can see us out of the bottom 3 so it is in our hands. Plenty on here spouting out over the winter about taking 10 years to get here then blowing it so to anyone with a ticket for any of our remaining games get behind the team, the away ends always seem up for it so lets try and make the KP into a furnace and be the 12th man. The atmosphere can make such a difference, If we survive and i reckon we will the club and the manager will learn.

We do that and surely no-one can complain. I wont be complaining if we stay up, ill be delighted. But im concerned about the future of the club, whether we do go down and have to rebuild, or whether we stay up, but i do not want to be sitting 7 points adrift with 10 games to go again and needing some sort of Gus Poyet miracle to crawl over the line. And i am skeptical as to whether the man to lead us at the top level is Pearson, irrespective of whether we pull this one out of the fire.
MooseBreath Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 He has rolled the dice in the last two games and won. Fortune favours the brave. Berahino rolls in their right forward Jeff had left in acres yesterday instead of shooting and it was 3-1 and season over. Very fine margins. A couple of wins built on gung-ho tactics against a team with nothing to play for and another on a bad run doesn't excuse the months of terrible tactics and team selections we've had to endure. There's still time for Pearson to prove me properly wrong and I hope he does, but realistically I believe these wins will turn out to be a false dawn.

If you get the points it doesn't matter whether you get them in the first 10 games or the last 10 games does it? I've enjoyed most of our games this season - apart from the obvious exceptions - and with the continual additions and the gained experience expect us to keep getting better. 17th in the football league would be the highest position we've finished a season in many years.

It matters because leaving yourself a mountain to climb, it wont always be possible to get the points. Weve put ourselves on a knife edge now where there is no room for slipping up. We could have been reasonably comfortable instead, in what has been in all probability a record low points total to stay up year. It matters because being rock bottom at christmas affects morale, affects your transfer targets, and affects the mood of the fanbase too. And we could have been laying plans for next season too. We dont know where we will be next season still. And that has huge implications.

If you were in 7th till the final 10 games and then lost them all going into the last game knowing that your loss and another team's win means you'll be relegated I'd have thought the mood over the off-season would be a lot worse than if we survive this season.

Depends on the outcome of that final game if we are following your logic, stay up everything is rosy, lose and go down, carnage. Youve just argued against your own point surely?
Mayofox Posted 12 April 2015 Posted 12 April 2015 Have changed my mind so many times. Go/stay/go/stay. But look, IF we go down, NP will get us back up. Plus, look at the strength/prospect of the kids coming through. We expected a stunning season, following last season, but what's happening now is reality. We are good, probably slightly better than our results show, and IF we stay up, we will improve.

It's genuinely amazing how far some people on here go to point out that they're not supporting Pearson. We looked awful in the first half and he switched the formation and personnel in the second half and dominated. Nigel Pearson won us that game as much as anyone else did. Admit it...I dare you.
