Not actually possible is it? Can't catch anyone higher than 8th, in reality with other teams playing each other, beyond 13th won't happen

Look at the links. It's through the fair play league. Getting in through the back door, so to speak.

5. Behaviour of the team officials

Maximum score = 6
Minimum score = 1

Team officials, including coaches, are expected to develop the sporting, technical and tactical level of their team – and instruct players to behave in accordance with the Fair Play principles.

Positive and negative aspects of the team officials’ conduct will be assessed – such as whether they calm down or provoke angry players or fans and how they accept the decisions of the referee. Co-operation with the media will also be taken into account.

Any single major incident may have a significant bearing on the final mark, as will breaches of the regulations governing the dugout and technical area.

Blameless behaviour without any particularly positive attitudes or gestures is likely to receive a score of 5 rather than 6.

For categories 1-5, the overall assessment of a team is obtained by adding up the points given for the individual categories, dividing this sum by the maximum points score (40) and multiplying it by 10.

In addition, there is one further category assessed by the Fair Play delegate.

no thanks, cant be arsed with a load of sunday games. ;)

The potential for excitement, drama and uniqueness of a European competition easily outweighs that minor annoyance for me.

It's a dull competition. The branding of it is awful, and it will certainly affect our league form even with a larger squad

I see what you're saying, and it's undoubtedly an irritation for the larger clubs, but European football would be immense for fans of a club of our size.

We'd take thousands wherever we went and it'd be good experience for the players.

If we were to qualify at some point in the next few years, I'd certainly like to see us take it seriously.

Absolutely I want European football, but not this way. I'd rather we have a squad capable of managing both commitments, and that comes from finishing seventh or above. That way we know in theory our squad is good enough to stay up, and therefore we are more capable of managing the two different competitions.

I think this way is pie in the sky to be honest.

I do think that we are capable of aiming for European football though, a decent cup run and actually taking our domestic competitions seriously is our most realistic route into Europe in the short or medium term. Had we turned up at Villa Park in the fifth round, we could easily have been at Wembley this weekend and one game away from the cup final and, given that finalists Arsenal will be in the Champions League, a shot at Europe.
