No. It was his poor selections and negative, naive tactics that put us in the shit in the first place. That said, he has finally learned and just about dug himself out of his own hole. Improved? Yes. Manager of the season? Long way off.

Tough one this. I'm torn on it.

Across the whole season...then no.

But the feat he/we have pulled off here is simply amazing. We were down, bar the shouting.

Probably if he had taken over just after xmas but he got out of the mess he created in the first place so would be very unfair on others to award it to pearson.

Look at it this way though -

Only promoted team to stay up, 14th place finish (hopefully), not beaten by more than 2 goals any game (hopefully). Taking into account our circumstances/resources and the fact that this is his first permanent PL manager's role, it's pretty commendable. I'd go for Monk or Koeman (or possibly Mourinho for how easily they won), but I wouldn't say Pearson was way off

No,but massive credit for the ending.

Its bound to be jose

Should be pardew for leaving Newcastle in the shit when he did!!!!lol

Nah, even as someone who has backed him all this time. It's pretty deluded of us to give him the manager of the year, especially when he was making a lot of mistake inbetween. The last two months have been almost a fantasy, but that's all they were two months

If you tallied all the votes for manager of the month over the whole season then that should Mots and I would bet it isn't Pearson if you do it that way.

That is not to undermine his achievements just that it shouldn't be biased towards the last 2 months.

Great to see him nominated, but it really should be Jose especially seeing as he didn't win manager of the month all season despite winning the league and cup.

I had a huge argument about this topic today.

My argument is, a manager of the season award should be awarded to a team that has exceeded their goals the most from what pundits predicted.

That leaves Koeman & Pearson.

A lot predicted that The Saints would be relegated.

Manager of the season SHOULD be based on who has exceeded their targets the most.

Mid season we were dead and burried, everyone had written us off. Mid season people expected saints to finish in the top 6.

I think Pearson or Koeman should get manager of the season as I believe they are the two managers that exceeded their targets the most, Pearson left it late, Koeman did it early!

Monk could be a possibility but I think Chelsea this year, with their additions were bang on favorites to do what they have done this season, so, Jose don't deserve it. Though, he is the best in the world at the minute and arguably the best ever, still doesn't deserve manager of the season.

If someone had said at the end of February, Nigel will be manager of the season, you would have called the men in white coats. Astonishing run and a great achievement but not quite enough for me. It's a massive achievement to even be nominated.

I disagree it should be on how they have improved from the previous season the only reason Chelsea were expected to win the league was because of the signings Mourinhio made. He took his little Pony and turned it into a horse and won the league comfortably and the cup.

How does their points tally compare to previous winners?

It is different for Koeman as he didn't sell those players, but he did have money to spend to replace them so it's not like he got a shit team to 7th, just because people thought they might struggle and didn't doesn't make him a better manager just that pundits are shit. The fact they could have taken a cl spot and didn't should also count against him in the same way Pearson's mid season form should count against him.

He's done well in the last three months, but prior before that he wasn't that great. Some of his tactical decisions earlier on in the season were questionable.
