ScouseFox Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 I'd imagine it's based on everyone sauing they would get relegated pre-season. Yeah but nobody really thought that did they? They sold a few players and bought a few more. They finished mid table last year, they're gonna do the same this year. They've been almost in relegation form for a good 3 months or so. Monk's done a much better job imo. Koeman' done pretty well but they started like a train and have been awful since January.
Unabomber Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 course he should that's what you usually get awarded when you have been the best manager all season.
Benji Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 I'm struggling to see the koeman love. They're one point better off than last year aren't they? And their 2015 form is pathetic. If you're saying no to Nigel cos we were crap then turned good, surely you're saying no to koeman cos they were good then turned very crap. Look at that table babs posted starting mid feb. they're 15th! for about a third of the season. 4 wins since February! Manager of the season. Think you're being a bit short sighted, mate. They had a big re-build (quite a lot forced) and will finish at worst 7th. When the manager and every man and his dog left they were massive contenders for relegation with pretty short odds. Ron had no real experience playing or managing in the premier league and yet they've played nice football, handed out a couple of thrashings and stayed in 4th place for a much longer period than anyone would every have imagined - he's done a superb job. The more recent run of form is just an illustration of how hard it is to go like that for a full season and why there is that 4th place ceiling for most teams.
Mark_w Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Even I don't think he should be named manager of the year. He's not, he's performed slightly above expectations over the course of the season which is great for us and a very good start to life in the Prem but it's not enough to make him manager of the year. Monk, Mourinho and Koeman are the only contenders for me, Monk has done a superb job at Swansea, Koeman has dealt with a lot of key losses and I imagine quite a negative feeling that surrounded the place following it and has improved them. I'd go with Koeman.
the-blue-wildabeast Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 if it was based on the lady two months he would pissed it, but there were too many poor decisions in the middle of the season for me. If he learns from it and moves us forward next season, which is often the season promoted teams struggle, then he could be in the mix.
Captain... Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Pardew was responsible for Newcastle's worst ever start to a season, and paved the way for their relegation (hopefully), he has done well with Palace but they are probably where they would expect to be after their strong end to last season. Manager of the season should be Jose, league cup winners title winners, best team throughout the season and improved on last season. A bit boring but you have to give credit where it is due they were the best team throughout the season and he didn't spend as much as some of his rivals. Monk has done very well, but not actually won anything, likewise Koeman, arguably a better job with the upheaval at Saints, but their late season form has let them down. If Villa win the cup then Sherwood should be in with a shout, but it really has to be Jose.
MPH Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 The great escape was pretty remarkable. There's no denying that. But lets not forget why we needed this great escape in the first place.... we had some spirited performances thats for sure but we had some shocking performances mixed in there too, with some mindboggling substitutions/ tactics Koeman.. Monk... teams on a similar budget to us doing alot better.... You could even throw Alan Pardews name in there as he's really had Palace getting some great results...
HighPeakFox Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Rubbish. We weren't truly awful! We maintained a high level of performance and commitment throughout and for that he should commended. In fact, I'd argue that it is easier to come in as a new manager and galvanise a team at the bottom than it is to rejuvenate them having been there for a long period of time beforehand. If anything this makes our achievement even more noteworthy! I voted no, however, this is a very good argument in favour

If anything this makes our achievement even more noteworthy! missed this earlier, Good post. Koeman had no choice, plus his squad, tho top players left, were still a quality bunch, ditto for Monk. Oh yes we had some awfull games, but this isnt about the team...but the manager. Pearson kept a belief running through his squad, over the darkist moments, crazy moments like the own goal WBA, poor mistakes on the pitch, from all and sundry, again, again and then again, he didnt allow heads to drop, the team came out confident, it will turn, week in week out that light at the end of the preverbial tunnel had long diminished, for fans and all outsiders . Now tell me, that Monks /koemans position were more difficult, they had proven players on their books. We depended, on young guns and would be pensioners, who before only dreamt of the PL, including Cambiasso(with all his history) Pearson with all his doubters, pulled HIS, yes His lads, through every shit game every loss and wiped their egos, and yes most likely told them to 'go out give your all, not only fight but go out and die'. Even on his tongue when a fan tried it on. !!! HE had no wave to ride, he fought , gave and sold to Proffessional players and their waining egos a belief....that just never died. That is character my friends, that us character. He has earnt an easier season, but he knows, he has to earn it himself. Stubborn too bloody right he was!!! .
Monsell1976 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Yes a good start, great finish to the season, but massive poor runs, so not for me. I think it should be someone who has consistently got it right, koeman probably, done a good job, new to the club, and lost the better players from the season before.
Dan Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Not for me. I think he had a lot of responsibility to take for us being bottom in the first place, although it's a 38 game season. He's in the top five but I don't think he's more worthy than Koeman, Monk, Mourinho or dare I say it, even Pardew. There are very few good contenders to be honest. All top sides bar Chelsea flattered to deceive and most of the bottom half were nothing out of the ordinary. It's been a pretty diabolical year for the league in general to be honest. We've been one of the few notable things to happen this season.
Tielemans63 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Surprised by how few are mentioning mourinho. He's won the double and Chelsea have been the strongest team in the prem by a mile....up until tonight anyway.
Corky Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Even I don't think he should be named manager of the year. Dan Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 To be honest Villa shouldn't have been that bad anyway. He's not done badly but he shouldn't be anywhere near manager of the season. Surely no-one genuinely believes Dyche should be there? Some absolutely laughable stuff there.
Guest bss9401 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 He got and absolutely deserved manager of the month. He is our manager of the decade. He is maybe even PL manager of 2015 so far. Not manager of the season IMO.
Blue Peter Posted 19 May 2015 Author Posted 19 May 2015 Currently there is a 70/30 split. I guess we will see who will be voted for and the outcome. Thanks for getting involved in the vote!!
LanguedocFox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 I reckon Monk is a good choice, but he took over a Premiership team, with proven PL players. Alan Pardew, moved Newcastle well up the PL table and saved CPs season, again with Known PL players. Pullis, did what Pullis does, but again with experienced PL players. Morinho, best manager this season because he won the League, but again with a golden pot of players. Pearson, ..Had his team playing hot and cold, with some cracker of games, and some abysmal displays, but with New boys to the PL.Other clubs used injuries has excuses.Pearson never, though our 1st 3-4 months our best players were injured, and played with knocks.Other group of players in teams, by Feb would have rolled up and died. Pearson kept and gave belief in and through the whole squad. No heads fell.. Whatsoever.. He had a team that looked ready to fall off the end of the world. He then came up with an idea and then 1st benched our best considered attacking player(mahrez). Moresoever he had fans starting to believe, he got a them n us theme going, Mainly having himself the blunt of attacks, and ridicule... What ever it was, the miniscule whys and wherefors worked.with 1 game dont forget, against season long relegation rival not needed. Our run of top form equalled everything top teams across Europe could muster. Now you clever dicks, all you pundits of football rhetoric, and Sunday supplement pundits I am taking all my 60yrs, turn it around to put my.. like a spoilt child. stamp my feet, now tell me I cant have an ice cream hat on and say... This Great Escape this Nigel Pearson was the performance of any known season seen in the last 10yrs. The winner by a wide margin, ladies and gentlemam, Mr Sacky, Ostrich loving, hound nemisis, NEVER lie down n die ....... Manager of the Season your own very own............ >>> MR NIGEL foxy PEARSON <<<<<<<....... The only Stadium rocker around. Great post, but you missed one really remarkable statistic: City are the only side this season apart from Arsenal who have not lost a match by more than two goals. On the other hand, I don't think Pearson is quite manager of the season: that has to be Mourinho, much as I dislike the miserable, self-important twàt.
ADK Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 Surely Mourinho should get it or does it go to somebody other than the league winner?
Oxfordfox83 Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 Great post, but you missed one really remarkable statistic: City are the only side this season apart from Arsenal who have not lost a match by more than two goals. Now that this is the case, can Rachel please let Hull smash Arsenal 4-1 or something so we have that record alone, and at the same time Newcastle go down...?
LCCFox96 Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 Would people have given Pearson a prayer for MOTY 9 games ago? No. Why should he get it based on the last 9-10 games when he wouldn't even have been considered previously? You have to consider the whole season, not about 1/4 of it. As much as I love Pearson this is an award he does not fully deserve. Mourinho or Monk for me.
Ollie93 Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 No, manager of the season is for the best manager over the course of the season. He won manager of the month because he was the best in that month. At other points this season he has been dribble.
