Ponchos at a football match. **** me.

Seeing as it rains almost all the time up there and the roof is further away than the moon they do hand them out a lot.

You'd need to be an all weather person to have a season ticket among the front 6 or so rows.

I expected better from Collymore.

Losing 3 games all season is not temporary form. It's seasonal class.

Matterface reeled off our back 4 and said they were better than WBAs, then mentioned Vardy, Mahrez and Drinky to which Stan replied "Drinkwater wasn't even getting in the squad last season"

Matterface just said "and now he's getting in to the England squad"

Shut up Colly.

Villa are going to be the biggest club to ever be relegated from the Premier League.

I think Man united  would have a somewhat bigger claim to that .

They would it's just a shame they've not been relegated from the Premier League.

Historically the biggest club, Man City weren't a bigger club when they were relegated by they are now.

No Man united were a bigger club than man city ever where and ironically it was a ex Man United player  ( Denis law )  playing for man city who scored to send Man united down.

Want Man City to win. The bigger the gap to West Ham the better as less West Ham will have to play for against us if they can't catch 4th spot

Except of course when Dennis Law relegated them while at Man City, but of course nothing happened before 1992...

Besides, Villa aren't the biggest club to go down since then, they're not even that much of a big club anymore - just another club that's been circling the drain for decades, like Newcastle. Leeds when they came down with us were looking like an established top half side with forays into europe.

Villa are one of the few to have never been out of the top flight tho. Also my Villa supporting mate from secondary school totally lorded it over us in the 90s and I know somewhere he will be watching them get relegated while we win the league....

Oh yes they have . Only arsenal have never been out of the top flight.

If he'd said top flight you'd have a point, but he said Premier League and nothing happened in the Premier League before 1992.

Premier league  --first division . The same horse just a different jockey.  it equates to the same thing . I'm old fashioned and remember that there was a much greater history to the game than renaming it the " Premiership "

They were relegated around 1910-13 and after finishing 5th in the 2nd division in 1913/14 pre-war were voted back to the 1st at the expense of Spurs when the war ended.

Am I hearing things or did Man City just ruin Blue Moon by playing a shite indie rock version at full time? Blue Moon is a great anthem and is sung loud at the Etihad. We can't get WYS off the ground (bar SK1) and Man U are trying to make their shitty rewrite of Country Road their anthem so why are Man City trying to ruin a good thing?

Which is why I said "Premier League".

You don't have to come at me with the "football was not invented in 1992" considering Sky have done me over many times - especially this season - hence why I hate them.

If I meant ever then I would have said "top flight". But of course Villa are the biggest club to go since 1992. They're much bigger than Newcastle (and Leeds).

I stand corrected but I was referring to the post first world war reorganisation of the football leagues as we know it today . But I take your point Davie .

I only remember it because  I read it was considered a bit underhand,  shades of FIFA corruption that got them voted back up. in reality they should have started that post war reorganisation in the 2nd division

How are they? Villa haven't really done anymore than leeds, and leeds have done it more recently.

I imagine he's comparing Villa's 7 titles to Leeds and Newcastle's combined 7 titles. Villa's 7 FA cups to Leeds and Newcastle's combined 7 FA cups. Villa's 5 League cups to Newcastle and Leeds' combined 1 League cup and Villa's 1 European cup to Newcastle and Leeds' combined 0 European cups.

Newcastle haven't won anything since 55 or 59 (or is it 69?) - the FA Cup.... Well, they've won the second tier/Championship but the FA Cup in the 50's or 60's (I cannot remember atm).

Villa, likewise last FA Cup win somewhere in the 60's but since Newcastle's last major honor have won the league (for the 7th time, the European Cup, the Super Cup.

Villa are one of the oldest clubs in the Country and a founding member of the football league (considering they invented it), and have really been consistent in the top flight. Last played in the second tier in '88. Newcastle have floated between tiers one and two in the same time.

... Leeds have spent the last 12 years in the second and third tiers.

Leeds won the top flight more recently. Other than that, their best success was under Revie so League titles, FA Cup final and their European Cup final defeat were 70s.

Villa's success was ten years later in the 80s. For the last twelve years Leeds have played in tiers two and three, Villa have been ever present in the top flight (finishing top 6 several times too).

It's all about perception. Years ago people rated the size of a club by its stadium size and its turnstile receipts and of course silverware.  At the moment I would rate Leeds --Villa  and Newcastle as shite as each other . All are owned and run by idiots and all have got no chance of reliving their glory days. It's like looking into a sewer and arguing which ones the bigger turd ?
