fox93 Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 that arsenal fan channel makes me want to commit Is that a typo for 'vommit' or did you mean 'commit suicide'? One is a bit more extreme I admit, but both are equally understandable
ajthefox Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 One performance does not make someone a contender for an international call up. And for what it's worth, Arsenal looked very frail defensively. Wes and Huth will relish the physical battle with Carroll, but I do wonder what we'll do to counter them defensively. Staying compact and inviting them to cross the ball in will only play to his strength.
fox93 Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 How many pairs of headphones does the guy on the right need?
Guest ttfn Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 The problem with Carroll is that he's an "option". He's not Plan A for England. But neither, evidently, is Vardy. Can you afford to carry a Plan A, a Plan B and a Plan C to the Euros? Hodgson wants to play a possession based game, with a counter attacking edge as plan B to which Vardy would be crucial. Carroll doesn't fit into either strategy. He's an unbelievable option to have and I wouldn't blame Hodgson if he took him.
ajthefox Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Brilliant goal from Sessegnon. The look on Hart's face in the slow-mo was a picture!

He's indisputably world class at a particular aspect of the game. The fact that you're worried about what the runaway leaders of the Premier League will do to combat him suggests he's a unique threat.
Jimothy Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Southampton's first goal against Newcastle was like a FIFA goal when playing on amateur
Danizen Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 It's a bit baffling to see West Ham and Southampton busting a gut to qualify for the Europa League considering their poor attitude towards the competition in July and August.
Corky Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Newcastle have lost 13-1 on their last four visits to Southampton. One positive of relegation is avoiding St Mary's next season.
Donut Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Newcastle have good players, its absolutely criminal to go down with their squad
Legend_in_blue Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Andros Townsend, I'd have him here next season. Quality player.
ajthefox Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Being worried about someone's attacking threat does not mean they are unique. West Ham are a top team and Carroll is good at what he does, that's why I'm worried. The fact that we're runaway leaders doesn't mean there aren't players in other teams that we don't need to look at to ensure we minimise the threat they possess. Deeney is a big, physical striker who's scored 9 and assisted 6 this season. He's a threat but no-one's clamouring for him to don the 3 lions. We can debate how good he is all day long, but my qualm is more with the fact that it's one performance. Form comes into the selection equation, but so does consistency. Where were the suggestions for Carroll before today?

Where were the suggestions for Carroll before today? People are talking about Deeney. Carroll is totally unique, no other centre forward is anywhere near as good as he is in the air. Have you been worried about us letting crosses coming into the box for any other player? I know I certainly haven't. Nobody was saying he *should* be in the squad but a few people were saying he might be worth a punt in the England Euro 2016 thread. Even now there's not exactly a clamour - a few people are saying it might not be a bad idea.
Brooksy Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 All Motson does is shout bollocks cos he can't keep up with play. Sooner he retires the better
Bryn Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 He needs to do more than stick a hattrick past an Arsenal side that, not for the first time, didn't put any thought into how they were going to manage a teams attackers. Zonal marking against Carroll ffs. Don't get me wrong, he will give Huth and Morgan a real good game but they'll relish the contest and make sure they know damn well who is picking him up.
Donut Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Id strongly fancy us to beat West Ham, not buying the Carroll love in.
Donut Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 What difference is not taking your seat for 7 minutes going to make to anything, except you missing 7 minutes of a game youve paid to see?

I've not no, but no-one has scored a hat-trick the week before playing us, either. And I never even said I was worried anyway, more that the way we organize our defence will give West Ham opportunities to cross and that that plays to their strengths. I just think it's so reactionary to even be discussing him. If he plays well until the end of the season and scores more goals then fine, but it's one game.

If he plays well until the end of the season and scores more goals then fine, but it's one game. It's not necessarily reactionary. Carroll has a good track record when fit and as I've said elsewhere, he has a pretty unusual skill set. All things being equal (ie everybody's fit and in form) I think his aerial threat is an incredible option for England. People get excited when he shows anything approaching his potential because he's absolutely world class at one aspect of the game which is more than can be said for pretty much any other English player. As I said earlier in the thread, personally I'm not sure there's space for him, but I certainly wouldn't rule him out.
Jimothy Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Again Stones ****ing around with the ball. Could have booted it out for a throw in, instead messing around until the balls nearly out and then launches a ball at his keeper who can only hack the ball out for the corner Stones was so desperate to avoid. I like that he likes to play, but he's really needs to start learning when not to. He keeps making the same mistakes over and over.
