Brooksy Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Unless you've played Switzerland again since September I'm not - that Switzerland game was a god awful watch (enough to make me stop watching England until Vardy got a call-up); the swiss strikers could trap a ball further than they could kick it, utterly dreadful, but England were pedestrian, less interesting than Andy Townsend narrating a documentary on drying paint and only really got anything from Switzerlands mistakes. It was a 0-0 performance. what
Stadt Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 I'm an england basher but we played well against Switzerland
Stadt Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 As a sidenote Wayne Rooney has 5 more goals for England than Neymar has for Brazil
Soar Fox Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 As a sidenote Wayne Rooney has 5 more goals for England than Neymar has for Brazil He's also 6 years older than Neymar and has 42 more appearances than Neymar
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Full backs should be Clyne and Bertrand every single possible opportunity there is.
Bert Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 You really didn't. That game was a 0-0'er in terms of quality, Switzerland looked disinterested and frankly crap, England did practically nothing. The two goals were against the run of play in as much as a shot on target by either side was against the run of playWe scored 2 goals. Switzerland scored 0. That's all that matters. It's a results game. We're going to qualify as group winners with games to spare.
Wymsey Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 At the moment, I'd have had Milner over Sterling; as Sterling has let things to get to him and it's shown in his recent performances.
Stadt Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 He's also 6 years older than Neymar and has 42 more appearances than Neymar That was my point! Rooney really isn't the talisman he should have been. Neymar has got 44 goals in 64 games over a 5 year international career, Rooney's got 48 in 105, obviously not bad but he's really under performed for us.

My bad I thought you meant it the other way round
foxes_rule1978 Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Rooney is a 1 in 2 striker... that is quality... sure it isn't a Neymar , Suarez messi or Ronaldo but they are just ridiculous... and make most strikers look bad if you are comparing to them...

Neymar is mostly a winger, Rooney has been a disappointment really not a bad record but he's a flat track bully which is symptomatic of England of the past 15 years
foxes_rule1978 Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Neymar is mostly a winger, Rooney has been a disappointment really not a bad record but he's a flat track bully which is symptomatic of England of the past 15 yearsFor both club and country Rooney does have a 1 in 2 record and that when playing midfield for Man U for the past 2 or 3 seasons.
MC Prussian Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Rooney is a 1 in 2 striker... that is quality... sure it isn't a Neymar , Suarez messi or Ronaldo but they are just ridiculous... and make most strikers look bad if you are comparing to them... If you look at Rooney's scoring record for England, the vast majority of his goals were scored against rather poor opposition such as Belarus, Kazakhstan, San Marino, Iceland, Norway, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Estonia or Macedonia, in meaningless friendlies or in qualification matches. His scoring record at major tournaments, however, is appalling (apart from four goals at EURO 2004, only one further goal at EURO 2012, plus one goal at the 2014 WC).

This is true, but to be honest he hasn't really been fit or near his best for any major tournament since 2004 ... and at 2014 he probably was our best player and was involved with all our goals, not saying much but that is fact.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 He's also 6 years older than Neymar and has 42 more appearances than Neymar He's also utterly shit. Really is scandalous he will be our top scorer, not fit to lace the boots of most names on that list, we just play so much international football these days and generally against utter guff so any England striker guaranteed a spot for a decade will get an absolute hat full, I'd probably get in to double figures.

His PL scoring record since the 2004/2005 season suggests otherwise. So either the England manager can't motivate Rooney in the Three Lions shirt, he deploys the wrong tactics or Rooney can't really be arsed. Pardon my lingo.

He has been unlucky when the major tournaments have come around, not been fit at all... had injuries just beforehand which hampered him..
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Utterly shit probably a bit hyperbolic but he's always seemed like the king with no clothes to me. Over rated from the moment he scored that goal against Arsenal for Everton because he's English.

So either the England manager can't motivate Rooney in the Three Lions shirt, he deploys the wrong tactics or Rooney can't really be arsed. Pardon my lingo. scored 15+ in 4 seasons during that time, he got 26 goals and 27 goals in two of those seasons so that's a bit harsh. The crux of the matter though is that he hasn't dealt with the pressure of being our 'star player'
Grewks Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 The problem with England is simple, we have no 'world class' players. By that i mean players who could actually get into 'top sides' from other countries around the world. Not a single one of our players would get into the Bayern, Barca, Juve, PSG or either Madrid side.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 14 June 2015 Posted 14 June 2015 Looked at Rooney's major tournament record ... he has 6 goals in 17 games... so just under 1 in 3 and wasn't fit for a lot of them... but at the Euros he has 5 goals in 6 games ... which is impressive ... just at the world cups he hasn't been fit and the one he was he was our best player ... Rooney's record is one of a quality striker just not a world beater... he would get into most teams , but he lags behind the true greats of our time, but nothing to be ashamed about, and far from shit like people on here are suggesting

It isn't Rooney's fault the way i see it. In our country we over-rate players....and raise expectation when it should not be there. We are doing it in the premier league as well now. Eden Hazard world class? Yeah right!

Indeed, Rooney just does what he does, he never has claimed to be the best and is a very unselfish player, never looks to try to do it all himself and always celebrates with the team regardless of his involvement
