st albans fox Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 He would have done well to avoid being on the bench. I think even Lewington and Neville have a chance of getting on at some point! I imagine he will get the last 10 or 15 mins whilst Austin gets longer. If that's the case, very tough to make any sort of impression. If he impressed in training then Roy may give him a bit longer in a formation that suited to him. this isn't a normal mid season friendly. The first team players need to regain match sharpness before mid week and will be given longer than usual to do so.
Guest ttfn Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Playing 1 up front when we seem to have settled into a midfield diamond is a bit weird but maybe Hodgson wants to experiment
LanguedocFox Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 I'm sure Hodgson will bring Austin and Vardy on at some point It would not make sense having them on the bench otherwise.
Wymsey Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Hope Rooney breaks the 'most English goals record' early on; can't imagine Hodgson taking him off until he achieves it.
benpicko Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Hope Rooney breaks the 'most English goals record' early on; can't imagine Hodgson taking him off until he achieves it. And then Vardy comes on and beats that in the second half?
ousefox Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 How depressingly bad is that England team? Compare that to the team we had ten years ago. If only we'd had a decent manager then.
Jimothy Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Always the same with friendlies. Call up a bunch of in form players, leave them on the bench and play the same old players who we've either seen 100 times before, are badly out of form or are half fit. Give the in form newbies 10-15 minutes at the end, claim they don't do enough and leave them out the next squad. Then when the players you've needlessly used in pointless friendlies, rather than looking at other options, pick up a knock and can't play in important games you call on those ones you never really looked and expect miracles. It'll never ever change.
shailen Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 How depressingly bad is that England team? Compare that to the team we had ten years ago. If only we'd had a decent manager then. We really should have won something between 02-06. We had the best team on paper and the players were at their peak. No disrespect to Vardy but he wouldn't have made the squad ten years ago. The pressure of playing for England has got to some of the players who at club level are fantastic
ozleicester Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Hope for a good game, an England win and Vard's to nic one in the 85th
Wymsey Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Prefer Smalling, but that's saying something too! No better than Morgan, really.
Carl the Llama Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Why do Screwfix sponsor England matches, surely their customers all follow Poland?
Merging Cultures Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Rooney to get injured in the first 5 mins and vardy to come on and rip Ireland a new one.
Guest ttfn Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Don't think that Ireland team would get out of the Championship
