gerrytaggart Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Who is to say that a different manager cant get even more from the squad?. I always liked Pearson and the way he was with the players but Im not gonna assume that he is the only manager who can motivate them and get them playing. There have been multiple threads about Pearsons lack of tactical astuteness(?) etc...although this aspect did seem to be improving. Maybe a different manager can bring the team on...who knows maybe we are a team of absolute world beaters who just need the right kind of inspiration and guidance?
Raj Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 For some obscure reason I'm actually quiet relaxed about the current situation. Relatively good timing if there is a good time to sack the 2nd most successful msnger in our clubs history!!!

SpacedX Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Most successful. Martin O'Neill being a better manager than Nigel Pearson is a myth. Depends upon the criteria. Not in terms of league finishes or honours is isn't - but then it's all relative and granted that was a different era.
Raj Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Most successful. Martin O'Neill being a better manager than Nigel Pearson is a myth. Not for me..O Neil changed a team that couldn't win a throwing let alone a game-,the sheff u game being a game changer. We went on to win trophies under MON.Top 10 under MON.Some of the greatest nights under MON.He made players out of second raters like Savage,Lennon,Elliot,He made a Chelsea reserve one of our great midfielder in Izzet.Think I've just clarified that for you!!!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Will Steve Walsh remain in his current role? I sincerely hope he does.
Stevosevic Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No. He'll be gone when the new man comes in. He would be gone already if resigning didn't mean losing a payment from being sacked. Him and Shakey will join Nige at his next club, where ever that is with a nice pay off from us.
Wymsey Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Even if Walsh and Shakespeare leave, he still got an very important personnel in Jon Rudkin (who knows the club inside-out).
Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 He was at Chelsea for 16 years so he's got previous for staying on at a club regardless of the manager. May be different in this case but worth throwing out there.
fleckneymike Posted 1 July 2015 Author Posted 1 July 2015 Depends upon the criteria. Not in terms of league finishes or honours is isn't - but then it's all relative and granted that was a different era. Its not how many matches you win, its which matches you win.
Corky Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 And it doesn't really matter either, O'Neill's reign was brilliant at the top level, Pearson's reign was impressive at a lower one. Both progressed the club whilst in charge, both leave with their heads held high. Hopefully the next manager takes us to a higher level.
Grey Fox Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 This is in no way meant as a slight against Pearson but the key thing now is maintaing the back room staff we have. One needs only look at what happened when Pearson departed for Hull, the infrastructure behind the scenes was decimated, the player recruitment was shambolic, injurries were common place with certain players in for one game then out for two. Likewise when MON left, he left only a legacy on the pitch, there was no off field systems in place which meant the club were reliant on finding a clone of MON, we singularly failed to do so and set ourselves back a decade. We cannot afford for that to happen again. We need a modern manager who is receptive to innovation. Pearson, to his eternal credit, asssembled an excellent team of scouts, data analysts, fitness experts etc. He also had the immense talent of know who to trust and when. What we must ensure is that we keep the scouting team, our success has been built on making relatively few misteps in the transfer market, any new manager must buy into the set up we have and also trust their judgement. The fitness team have also done wonders in minimsing and managing the knocks a niggles to ensure we always put out our most competative team. Pearson may be gone, but his legacy needn't. This is what scares me most about Pearson's sacking. Losing the whole of the scouting and fitness team would be an absolute disaster. I don't rate our chances of keeping Walsh very highly. His brother (Micky) is Pearson's agent and they all seem to stick together. That togetherness is what worked in our favour when Pearson was manager. But it will probably work against us in terms of retaining his staff now he is not. I remember the last time he left, everyone he wanted seemed to follow him soon after. Yes he'll need a job first, but as soon as he has I reckon we could see the same again.
SpacedX Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Its not how many matches you win, its which matches you win. Absolutely - that's what I had in mind.
cjslcfc Posted 2 July 2015 Posted 2 July 2015 Shakespeare is too good a friend to Pearson not to go with him to his next club. I just hope Walsh sticks around or that the team that has been assembled remains in some format.
FireFox Posted 2 July 2015 Posted 2 July 2015 What would happen if a new manager comes in, doesn't have his own preferred backroom staff, recognizes thier value, and wants to keep them on? Would they stay until Pearson gets a new job? Would they stay even when he does if we are offering a much higher wage?
Ollie93 Posted 2 July 2015 Posted 2 July 2015 This is such a good point. Last season we didn't have any serious injuries, bar Matty james', compared to other teams. Our fitness levels were superb, its scary to think how we could be if the backroom staff isn't maintained.
My Nads Posted 2 July 2015 Posted 2 July 2015 What if Nige doesn't have another job for six months or more?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 2 July 2015 Posted 2 July 2015 Not for me..O Neil changed a team that couldn't win a throwing let alone a game-,the sheff u game being a game changer. We went on to win trophies under MON.Top 10 under MON.Some of the greatest nights under MON.He made players out of second raters like Savage,Lennon,Elliot,He made a Chelsea reserve one of our great midfielder in Izzet.Think I've just clarified that for you!!! So very true, he had that extra special ability, to improve players, throughout his sides.
