Martin O'Neill

Says it all Some people I would rather have Allardyce than O'Neal.

Who's O'Neal? :D

I'm rapidly coming around to this idea, who else wants to come who would be a better fit? Nobody else that has been mentioned so far apart from NP. The clock is ticking and precious preparation time is being lost.

lol it's like the never ending narrative in here.

I keep reading new pages of posts and trying to remember if I have Alzheimer's or Dementia.

For the love of God something needs to be announced lol

Yeah even I'm getting tired of it and I do have Alzheimer's.

Yeah even I'm getting tired of it and I do have Alzheimer's.

Yeah even I'm getting tired of it.

Not sure, if this has been posted but

Great video first time i have seen this very somber feel to it.

Imagine Pearson being questioned like that! I can just imagine on 2:10 Pearson breaking into have you had your head in the sand mode

It all adds up now. Pearson knew the owners wanted O'Neill to replace him as manager, so crashed his car into O'Neill and Keane in the hope of ' putting them out of action'

Honestly believe this will end up tainting what he achieved with us before.

If he's willing to put his reputation on the line then why should we get all flustered? It may not go to plan but it won't be dreadful. With 2/3 more quality additions I'd be astounded if any manager relegated the squad we've got.

Why?

I really, really don't understand this mindset. If someone can sway me then fair enough but these are two different events. His previous legacy was a completely different era. Even if he was gone within the year this time round it wouldn't change things for me because I'm aware that the two things are not the same.

A sign of emotional maturity is said to be the ability to cope with ambivalence, or conflicting emotions about the same thing.

For me, what O'Neill achieved here is already written into the history books.  It has happened and no manager since has come close to emulating it.  Some people believed Pearson would build a legacy to rival O'Neill and I hoped he would.  However now that questions must be consigned to the 'what might have been' drawer.

If MON comes back to Leicester, I have no doubt that with the foundations already laid and with money at his disposal, he will establish the club in the PL.  If things don't pan out as I hope, and if MON is a disappointment, then I can cope with that.

It does not change the period of my life when I was a young man and MON had us winning cups, on European trips and capable of beating anyone.

If MON finished us 12th this season with the current squad, all the praise would be on MON. I do genuinely believe NP would of put us there or there abouts this season.

The owners sacked Pearson (which I still disagree with), but that's not MON's fault.

Yes Pearson probably would have taken us forward again this season, but he's been sacked and now we need to get another manager in.

The choice is not between Pearson or MON.  The choice is between MON and another.

The way I look at it:

Karate Kid (original) vs Karate Kid 4 (the shit one with Hilary Swank). Both some years apart, both starring Pat Morita as Mr Miyagi.

Just because the 4th one was rubbish doesn't mean I now hate the first film

Give MON the job, he deserves it more than any of the other named candidates. He'll get us survival at the least, I'd be sure of it

I think Pearson would've improved on his 16th place this year too.  But I don't know he would've done.  If I had to bet the house on who would finish better in the PL, MON or Pearson, then I would bet it on MON.

It is a crying shame Pearson hasn't been able to finish the job he started, because none of us know how far he could've taken us.  There is the possibility that last season's run and 16th place would've been the summit of his time here also.  It can only now be guesswork.

Previously MON built on foundations laid by Little and McGhee. Does that diminish his achievements with us?

O'Neill with the current coaching staff (Steve Walford) back is the perfect combination to continue our progression. Like Pearson, O'Neill is no coach. He is a man montivator/tactician. Shakey can handle training/style of play, Walsh the transfers and the rest can handle the sports science stuff.

O'Neill is there to motivate, pick the team and pull off some masterstroke tactical decision to get us some points (I.e Kaamark on Juninho).

Martin with Steve Walford as his assistant and no Walsh as head scout/of Recruitment is a no-no.

The former scenario is as good a management team any side outside the top four has/could have in my opinion.

But we'll never know, and there's no point harking on about where we'd finish under Pearson this year because they've sacked him. I'm gutted about that, and I think it's monumentally stupid, but it's happened. So if we employ O'Neill, or Di Matteo, or Klopp, or Preki, or whoever, let's try not to use some hypothetical idea of how Pearson would have done as a stick to beat them with, they've not forced Pearson out and took his job, they've merely filled a gap left after Pearson put himself in a position where his position was no longer tenable.

We finished 14th.

Get it wrapped up quickly please. Let him have a week in Austria with the squad so he can come back and choose a few players he thinks need strengthening. Happy days for everyone

The thing is, if you believe he will fail, his reputation is already tarnished as you don't believe in him. So its nonsense.

Some really embarrassing posts in this thread.

Anyone would think O'Neill is a relic from the dim distant past.

This for me. I'd like to see a plan for moving Cambiasso into a coaching role and eventual manager when MON departs in say 3 years

Is Roy Keane coming in as his number 2?!?

That'd be a nice link up to stuff Sunderland in game week 1!

Posted

If we do appoint O'Neill I would back us to win the first game at home to Sunderland. He will be absolutely gunning for a win over them as it's well docuemented that he felt his sacking there was harsh. I imagine he would find a win over them very sweet indeed.

I'm warming to the idea of MON returning to Leicester.

He's a motivator. I'd like Keane here as he's a winner.

They'd get the best out of Vardy etc, whereas I'm not so sure Ranieri, Klopp, Etc would / would have.
