jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 This is a player who has earnt in excess of £5 million since he signed with us. He's done what he's paid to do. He worked throughout his 3 year contract originally. And is leaving 1 year before his 2 year deal expires... He will get a nice 3 year deal at boro now. #good servant
Aus Fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Hear this so much now it's embarrassing. You really class players on 25 thousand pounds a week such as Konchesky and nugent 'A good servant to the club' If a club came in for them and offered them more wages they would be off in a second. A good servant is someone like Scholes, giggs, gerrard. Players who always turned down other clubs to stay at the club they love. Do you honestly think Giggs, Scholes or Gerrard would have been a good servant if they had starte their careers at Norwich, Leicester and Southanpton? No, it's easy to say they are a good servant when playing most of the careers at top 4 clubs earning well into 6 figures. Nugent and Konchesky gave 100% on the pitch until the club decided we had moved beyond their level. That makes them both good servants. In your opinion who has been a good servant in our history?

Leeds Fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 To add to this... They signed a contract for a certain amount of years. Does it make you a good servant to see out the years which is contractual? If anything this makes nugent a not very good servant to the club. Otherwise he would refuse to move and see out his contract. If the club wants to sell him, and he refuses and sees out his contract, it would be the complete opposite of a 'good servant'.
RowlattsFox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 A good servant to me is someone who gives their all for the club and performs to the best of their ability. No matter how long they are here. A 'club legend' is different all-together, that's what the likes Scholes, Giggs etc are.

Bayfox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Giggs and Scholes keep cropping up a lot. Yeah like they ever had reason to leave, they we're at possibly the biggest club in the world at the time, earning good money and winning things, no wonder they stuck around.
Kitchandro Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 It's a figure of speech, get over it. Obviously they're not literally a servant.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Doesn't matter on the number of years a player is at the club or how much money they earn, if they show up and perform at a consitantly good standard each week then they are a good servant to the club. As much as I hate how much Footballers earn, they are still human beings who will have their heads turned by extra money. I think you are confusing being a good servant to loyalty, which in itself is a tricky subject.

Sharpe's Fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 It's just a figure of speech. Are people really so mass/volume?
davieG Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 British Dictionary definitions for servant servant /ˈsɜːvənt/ noun 1.a person employed to work for another. That means they get paid to do a job for which they can be a good, bad or indifferent, paid a pittance or a fortune depending on your own personal perspective.
ImBlue Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Can you get a ban for being a complete balloon head?

Out of the players you mentioned, the only one I think was a great servant to the club was Gerrard. Sacrificed money and trophies (e.g. League) for Liverpool. Giggs, Scholes etc. were at Man United, they won the lot in terms of trophies and were at one of the vest paid clubs. Yes they were loyal, but there wasn't any better club out there.

Great player in his day.
stox259 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I suppose its in comparison to other footballers. Plenty of players have played for Leicester on more money and have been no where near the player Nugent has. There have been players on less money than Nugent but in general opinion not done well for the money they have earned. Its a figure of speech to distinguish a decent guy at a club. There are plenty of players not pulling their weight in football nowadays and 'stealing' a living. Nugent is not one of these and so therefore figuratively 'he's a good servant to our club'.
lifted*fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Someone being a good servant has nothing to do with the period of time they spend in a job or the amount of money they earn. The effort they put in, the way they conduct themselves and the influence they have are the important, measurable factors that make someone a good servant - whether it's over 2 years or 20 years matters not.
bluesbrothers Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 jimmeh's just a bit of a nob really ain't he lads Come on, he's a good servant to foxestalk.
Tom's Pasta Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 What is it with these moronic topics lately. Of course Nuge has been a good servant to the club, always worked hard and appreciated the fans, scored some important goals, and a big reason why we are in the premier league. How you can possibly see it otherwise I really don't understand. Plus the only reason he's potentially leaving is because he's down in the pecking order and won't get the game time he's looking for.
