jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Hear this so much now it's embarrassing. You really class players on 25 thousand pounds a week such as Konchesky and nugent 'A good servant to the club' If a club came in for them and offered them more wages they would be off in a second. A good servant is someone like Scholes, giggs, gerrard. Players who always turned down other clubs to stay at the club they love.
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 To add to this... They signed a contract for a certain amount of years. Does it make you a good servant to see out the years which is contractual? If anything this makes nugent a not very good servant to the club. Otherwise he would refuse to move and see out his contract.
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 What's with all these wind up threads at the minute?
Captain... Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 You are right, they are all just mercenaries, personally I work for free and will never leave because I am a good servant...
richardsfoxes Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 When a player is here for a number of years and has contributed to a number of games that helped us get where we are now, I call that a good servant, you cant argue that they both gave 100% regardless of their ability, please take your negativity elsewhere.
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 What's with all these wind up threads at the minute? How is it a wind up. Tell me how nugent is a good servant to the club. When he is doing what he is vastly paid to do, on a contract
bovril Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think we covered this a couple of months ago. The idea of 'servitude' is a bit ridiculous in football.
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 They are professional footballers who have no affection for the club. They are here for the money. Face it. He is not a good servant. He is a professional doing what he is paid to do
cc_star Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Nobody but an 85 year old matchday steward doing it for love, is a good servant to the club then?
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 Nobody but an 85 year old matchday steward doing it for love, is a good servant to the club then? Well if I was in a job for 4 years... I wouldn't be considered a good servant to the company. You have to be there 15 years for that.

He is a professional doing what he is paid to do Maybe so. It's a figure of speech though isn't it? Nugent has scored some important goals. His partnership with Vardy the last 2 seasons has been integral.
Finnaldo Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 How is it a wind up. Tell me how nugent is a good servant to the club. When he is doing what he is vastly paid to do, on a contractSo anyone well paid for their job can't be a good servant? If someone came up to you and offered you £25,000 a week would you turn it down? You can only compare it to the market and both have been here for four years, a fairly large portion of time in a very short career span of a footballer, and never moaned about anything. Saying someone isn't loyal because they earn a lot of money is b0llocks really.

He is a professional doing what he is paid to do And in the past there were no players in for the money? Does your football history begin with the Premier League?
Captain... Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 How is it a wind up. Tell me how nugent is a good servant to the club. When he is doing what he is vastly paid to do, on a contract Do you really need this explaining? If you can't see that Nugent, despite being paid well, has been a "good servant" which basically means "not a dick". He has always given his all, he has never kicked off when he has been dropped, always knuckled down and worked hard, played with a smile on his face, never made demands nor disrupted the dressing room. Hasn't embarrassed himself nor the club off the pitch. He's never tried to push through a move to another club, made ridiculous wage demands he has always had time for the fans and acted as a good club ambassador. You may not see that as a big deal, but when it is beyond so many footballers, then I think it is worth commenting on, and the phrase, "being a good servant" means just that, he has performed as a good employee. When I leave my current job I would hope that they would say I had been a good employee, so I don't see why people get their knickers in a twist because people say it about a footballer.
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 It also helps when you get paid 100k a week plus. Gerrard was offered more at Chelsea and turned it down. You're telling me nugent would have done the same.
Babylon Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Well if I was in a job for 4 years... I wouldn't be considered a good servant to the company. You have to be there 15 years for that. Phew I'm glad someone knows the rules and how long you need to be somewhere before you can be considered a good servant. You do know the general meaning for servant is just "a person who performs duties for others", usually paid to do so. They did well for the club and we progressed with them. ie. they were good, servants. Where as say Matt Mills wasn't, because he was utter shit for the purpose he was employed.

A good servant is someone like Scholes, giggs, gerrard. Players who always turned down other clubs to stay at the club they love. That's right, the 3 you've highlighted stuck it thru thick and thin playing for some of the largest clubs in the world on massive wages. Truly servants of the highest caliber!
jimmeh Posted 10 August 2015 Author Posted 10 August 2015 And in the past there were no players in for the money? Does your football history begin with the Premier League? I know they are professional footballers and it obviously is about money. But to me a good servant to the club is a player who has been at a club for 10 years and perhaps turned down other moves in favour of staying.
Finnaldo Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Gerrard was offered more at Chelsea and turned it down. You're telling me nugent would have done the same. Gerrard threw his toys out the pram and demanded to talk to Chelsea, something Nugent has never done.

But to me a good servant to the club is a player who has been at a club for 10 years and perhaps turned down other moves in favour of staying. You don't know what they were offered at their clubs to actually stay put in the first place!
BigMicky Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Gerrard was offered more at Chelsea and turned it down. You're telling me nugent would have done the same. If Gerrard wasnt a scouser he would have gone. Completely different scenarios. I see you have set the benchmark of 15 years for being a good servant, have a day off trigger.
Captain... Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Well if I was in a job for 4 years... I wouldn't be considered a good servant to the company. You have to be there 15 years for that. Not if after 4 years you are surplus to requirements, you can't blame Nuge or any others for leaving when they are not needed any more. Is Gallagher more of a servant because he refused to leave?

They have been A footballer's career on good wedge, runs from 21 to 33, unless you're a Pirlo or Gerrard. Basically 12 years, he's been here a 1/3rd of that career If you work from 18 to 67... that's a similar proportion. Imagine being the type of person to get uppity at a simple turn of phrase
