The second car I actually got to own and drive on the road was this:

lol

I had the MG Maestro..in light blue.

The bodywork just rotted...however hard I tried to keep it good, but the ENGINE...that was one of the quickest cars I've driven ever....2.0 injection.

The old Citreon's were a bag of shite to be honest.

The ONLY car I've ever been in that's literally scared me was a pristine Renault 5 GT turbo. So light and quick that I nearly crapped myself when I first drove it (my mates car).

Beautiful cars aren't they.

Safe up and get a Focus RS mate. Thems the dogs...

lol

Yeah it's a great car. Iv looked at them mate, I'm tempted to trade this in but moving house in a few months so that's going on the back burner.

The problem with the Focus RS mate is the price! Even the older ones fetch 15k I believe.

Stick with the ST. From what I've heard you have all the power you'll ever need on UK roads and they hardly ever go wrong. Keep it serviced (essential) and you'll have a great car for years.

Yup, new ones are £28k I think which is silly money for a ford. Had the old Fiesta ST a few years back and that seamed like a beast, would be good to drive that and then my current one to see how different they are.

Nissan Micra '86!! (20 years after it was released, and was considered being anything close to cool).

Good cars Nissans.

Mrs Col has an 08 Micra which so far has been nothing other than hyper reliable. It's a 1.2 litre auto, drives like a little go cart, but has been worth every penny.

The Japanese cars really are well made these days.

Yeah I had the Fiesta XR2i... In black. Remember them? The old shape ST had similar power, though the XR2i had a 1.6 injected engine, whilst the ST is 2 litre I believe?

Again, that was a quick little car.

My favourite ever car though is the Rover 2.5 v6. It's fully loaded and is a delight to drive. Hearing the vroooom of the V6 is grand.

To be fair I think the ST has 40-50bhp on an XR2i, probably a bit heavier mind.

1981 X Reg Fiesta 1 ltr, bought in 1992. Piece of sh!t but sturdy enough, ended up selling it for £30 and 2 crates of beer when it failed miserably in its MOT. The guy that bought it decided to change the oil but forgot to refit the sump plug, hence a healthy coating of Duckhams over his driveway  lol , Still makes me chuckle now.

2.8i Ford Capri. Utterly ridiculous first car and totally impractical, but I did have a soft-spot for it. Mind you, it was as old as the hills and had nearly gone round the clock when I bought it; it used to fall out of gear at the worst possible moments. The bonnet was so long I couldn't see out at junctions at all... mind you, I still have that problem now!

Very similar to this, same colour too...

Mine was my dad's Mark 2 Ford Escort estate.

But I've had loads..he worst one being a Datsun Cherry which I paid 100 quid for and the engine blew as I was driving home.

I've had some beauties also... A red Escort RS turbo springs to mind although I was FOREVER getting stopped by the coppers...not for doing owt wrong..just because I was a young man driving an RS.

Now I own a Rover 75 2.5 v6... Which drives like a magic carpet and which has just been put away for the winter.

And a Fiesta 1.6 Ghia Auto. An 08 plate with only 15k on the clock. That's a peppy little thing.

I've always loved cars and have wasted an absolute bloody fortune on them.

I have quite a long list as well, I think the car I loved the most was a White K reg Toyota Celica GT4, god that was quick! And it was really difficult to get the back end out on it, the 4wd was superb.

I've had 3 Celicas, a blue GT, and a black GTR(4ws) and I've had 2 bm's, 2 4.7 v8 Grand Cherokees, and an endless number of £2-300 nails as well. More recently I've had to be more sensible with car choices, so drive an 05 Audi A6 2.7 tdi v6 s line. Surprisingly good fuel economy.

Mine was the first series MG with the 1.6 R series engine and twin downdraft webber carbs, was faster than the XR3i's that my mates had but unreliable as hell and drank fuel when you put your foot down.

Didn't they do a Maestro Turbo as well?

Yes they did between 1989 and 1991,it had terrible wheel spin problems because they didn't fit an LSD

My future father in law was still driving an F reg Maestro (albeit not an MG) about 5 years ago.  How the hell it was still going when similar era vehicles were failing their MOTs after 3 years because of corrosion is one of life's enduring mysteries

The 2003 Citroen C3s are great little things.

I'm sure you'll find lots for cheap too, the only downside is the clutch is a bit stiff but since it was the car I learned in I didn't even notice until the first time I drove it after owning a car of my own for a few months.

Yes and that WAS rapid.

The turbo kept breaking though.

You could tell the turbo version by the special alloys

Ha ha I've told her until it's had a good clean I'm not selling it for her. To be fair like you said its a good car and she's not had any problems with it in 5 years.

Hopefully the mini that she's got now lasts just as well.
