Unabomber Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 Really? Bit of an odd reason why not to have kids.... Was only joking mate already got a couple.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 What if the kid under 18 smokes and is allowed to do so by their parents?
MPH Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 What if the kid under 18 smokes and is allowed to do so by their parents? But what about the parent's rights of not having to sit in the car with their kid smoking!!!!!!!
Vardinhio Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 How is it going to be enforced? I am not against it. Any sensible parent would not do it anyway. Maybe parenting skills should be taught and save the money and time police spend on prosecuting. The police force are stretched as it is with cuts being made. If you are stupid enough to be seen doing it then you will be reported and then issued with a fine.
Alexikokopops Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 What if the kid under 18 smokes and is allowed to do so by their parents? Ah yes, the classic "I let my child smoke even though he's under the legal age to do so" defence. I reckon that'll work a treat with the police
Parafox Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 What about E-Cigarettes? I have E-Kids, am I exempt?
lianne81 Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 What about E-Cigarettes? Rules about smoking in private vehiclesPrivate vehicles must now be smokefree if they are enclosed, there is more than one person present and one of them is under 18. So it is an offence: for a person of any age to smoke in a private vehicle that is carrying someone who is under 18 for a driver (including a provisional driver) not to stop someone smoking in these circumstances The rules don’t apply to e-cigarettes (vaping).
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Ah yes, the classic "I let my child smoke even though he's under the legal age to do so" defence. I reckon that'll work a treat with the police I thought you had to be 18 to buy them but 16 to smoke legally?
Wymsey Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Some might get away with it if they fully-open their vehicle windows for a few minutes whilst smoking. Obviously the law makes sense if they smoke and don't have any window open!
Rincewind Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 The same way mobile phone use is enforced by sheer luck. I know that. Good luck to them spotting who is holding a fag as it speeds by a camera. I just think mobile phones are easier to spot. Is it just the driver that is not allowed to smoke? I was just thinking a fag can easily be passed over then it will take time and money to prove it.
Vlad the Fox Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 I think for many the fact that there is legislation will finally be enough to stop them if they haven't already along with the health messages as it raises even more awareness of the dangers to children. To continue will be a completely selfish act with ignorance being no defence. Similar to mobile phones, booster seats and seat belts years ago it helps to get the message across once it becomes law.
Rincewind Posted 3 October 2015 Posted 3 October 2015 That is a good point and the best reason for having it.
Alexikokopops Posted 3 October 2015 Posted 3 October 2015 I thought you had to be 18 to buy them but 16 to smoke legally? You learn something new every day. In that case, fair question!
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 3 October 2015 Posted 3 October 2015 17 year old drivers as the sole under-18 in a car are allowed to smoke.
DB11 Posted 3 October 2015 Posted 3 October 2015 You learn something new every day. In that case, fair question! Make sure what you're learning is correct.... Because what you've quoted isn't.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Make sure what you're learning is correct.... Because what you've quoted isn't. Is it not? According to this police only have the power to seize tobacco from anyone under 16, not 18 http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2604.aspx?CategoryID=53&SubCategoryID=536
ScouseFox Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 I thought you had to be 18 to buy them but 16 to smoke legally? i always thought this too. we used to have bifter breaks in sixth form (aged 16-18) where teachers an students would all go and smoke together happily. surely if it was illegal that would not be sound.
DB11 Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Is it not? According to this police only have the power to seize tobacco from anyone under 16, not 18 http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2604.aspx?CategoryID=53&SubCategoryID=536 They have a duty to seize tobacco from anyone under 16 but they can use discretion 16-18. Some laws state children are under 16, some say they are under 18
Jon the Hat Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Smoking cars are a pain tbh. I was behind some evil old diesel Peugeot this morning. Nasty.
