Guest Col city fan Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Yes I know we've just won another game. And it's not yet even Christmas.. And we're third. BUT...dare we dream about making Europe this year? As in the Europa? I'm being genuine. I'm not trying to be OTT or anything and I know we've still to play the big boys. But we ARE looking good aren't we? We have Vardy in the form of his life, a world class player in Mahrez and a midfield full of bite and energy. Dare we dream about making the top six this season lads and lassies? Opinions please.......
Corky Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Yes, we should believe we can do it. Better to try and fail than not try at all.
StanSP Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 we can dream, of course. one game at a time though! Don't want this to bite us on the arse later on in the season!

steveherbe Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 From what I saw today, only team better than us are Arsenal. Believe it, we can seriously do this.
ThingsCouldGetMessi Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Shouldn't target anything until we have 40 points on the board and then we can see where we are. Don't want to sound a pessimist but our run of games is a lot harder from the end of November. How good we are and our character will show when we don't win for a few games.
foxfanazer Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Significant strengthening of the defence would be needed in January imo. As an attacking force we can definitely challenge
ImBlue Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 We need to go big in the transfer market for Europe, but why not?
Guest Col city fan Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 World Class????????? Who Mahrez? Oh yes, for sure. He's an exceptional footballer.
Guest ttfn Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Can't see it myself. Best chance of Europe is still the FA Cup

promised land Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 See where we are in May. Fixed that for you.
Dan Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 December will more than likely bring us back down to earth a bit, but you never know - 22 points from your first 11 isn't to be sniffed at no matter who you've played. We've been brilliant this season and I don't think it's beyond us.
ImBlue Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Who Mahrez? Oh yes, for sure. He's an exceptional footballer. Good on you Col, brave thing to say, but right IMO. It will take a world class club to snap him up before some people realise it.

Reminds me a lot of Southampton at this time last year, who like us had played few of the top sides but managed to beat everyone else. To be fair they did end up scraping into Europe as Chelsea and Arsenal won the cups. I don't think we're quite as good as Saints were last year but I'm quietly confident we can finish top half now.
FoxInTheBirstallBox Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 I was saying this earlier, when does it stop being a good run and begin being a truly great team, new years day I think we can see how we are after we have played everyone once

Cheers mate. Why I say this is because imagine Mahrez in one of the best club sides in the world. He's great for us, but imagine him in a side playing with more world class players. He wouldn't look out of place. In fact, he'd look even better. I wouldn't sell him for thirty mill at present, would you?

He really does have the potential to be in the future, but he has a heck of a lot to improve on and learn before id call him world class alongside Messi etc.

Opinions please....... Col, you know I usually agree with you....but sadly it's a no from me. I think 30 years of hurt as a City fan has taught me that it all goes tits up at some stage . I think top 10 is achievable, maybe 8th, but I just can't see us qualifying for Europe through our league position. I'd love to be proved wrong and I really hope we continue this run but maybe I'm just too scared to believe. Maybe I'm just in denial. I can't believe we're 3rd and it just doesn't feel right! I've no logical reason to base this on, just a lifetime of disappointment and under achievement. Hopefully this is the start of a new era for us and we really can live with the big boys.

Yours is a very pertinent question.

It's potentially quite similar to Southampton's last two seasons- do very well until November, hit a harder set of matches and fall from the lofty position. They finished 8th and 7th so no landslide down the table. Incredible to think that 7 years ago we were fighting out on the final day of the season to stay in the Championship.

Look up mate, to the last post. I'm not saying I think we will..I'm asking for opinion.
Renart Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Not yet. To make it into Europe we need to sustain this against some of the better teams. In many ways this season's fixtures are the reverse of last season's. Our run in is tough and we are not even out of October yet. I still feel like we are on a run at present and long may it continue, but I do think we will have a hiccup at some point and it is how we deal with that. If we lose a couple in a row and bounce back then maybe we can push on, even then it will be tough, but if our heads go down then I can see us drifting, not plummeting as I no longer think we are that team, down the table.
