Gerard Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Why do you need to pay players 100k a week to be a good side? We didn't pay players ridiculous wages under O'Neill yet were still solid and still won trophies. Even nowadays, you rekon the likes of Southampton, West Brom and Stoke pay out loads of wages? There's always a limit. It's been half a season. Manchester United dominated the PL for 15 years or so, Jesus. I never said there wasn't a limit, even Real Madrid have a limit. We were never anywhere near a top four team under MON and why should we be with our budget? It's different now as being a PL club automatically makes you one of the richest clubs in the world. With players like Vardy, Mahrez & Kante we have been given an opportunity to become a top side for very little outlay, now is not the time to show how small time we are by baulking at paying the PL top scorer 90k a week. Defoe is on £80k at Sunderland FFS.
Fox92 Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Fair play if that's your opinion but I'll agree to disagree.
foxes21 Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 With the 100 mill tv deal I think we can afford to offer better wages to our current key players we want to hang onto. (Mahrez, Vardy, Drinkwater, Kante)

filbertway Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 If we actually want to compete at the top we will pay top dollar to keep the league's best players. The harmony in the squad is fantastic, players will realise that the match winners will earn more and probably be happy for them. It's when you start signing players on big money wage packets who then turn out to be crap that you will get bad harmo's
ThaiFox Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 People must be paid what they are worth in life, but for me, the wages in football are obscene. When I think of some of our past players, the Mike Stringfellow types, who left football with next to nothing and ended up running a newsagents for a living, it should be a constant reminder to all current players how lucky they are to be playing in this era. If players on £40,000 A WEEK (OVER TWO MILLION A YEAR!!!) can't invest it properly for later life then it is disgusting. I can understand anyone wanting to improve themselves, either by playing with better players, earning more money, in a team playing champions league football, or to enhance their international prospects, but sometimes players should reflect and think of how lucky they are. Unfortunately we are in the era of greed, and this is just not healthy for the future of the game. Maybe it is good to cap our players wages to ensure LCFC does have a future at a higher level? A well run club with a future is surely better than becoming the next Portsmouth?

They are a stable, well run club, but still a big club that always secure a solid finish.
MooseBreath Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 He is at their level but we can't afford it. We're not Manchester City or Chelsea. We don't buy players for £40million and pay players £100,000 a week. We're doing really well at the minute - still performing above expectations - but we're only half way through a season. What if you give our players ridiculous wages then it all goes wrong. We have done this before and it hasn't worked. Yes but Rooney plays for Manchester United, not Leicester City. They can afford to give their three best players £300k a week. We can afford to pay our best players £90k just by staying up. If we get into the champions league we could afford it easily. We've wasted big money on poor players before but we've never been in a situation like this, where we have 2/3 players performing at world class standard. Let those players go because you don't want to pay what they're worth in the market and we might as well just fvck off back to the championship and stay there.

Top sportsman of basketball, American football, golf, tennis all get obscene amounts of money.
ranieri99 Posted 18 December 2015 Author Posted 18 December 2015 The thing I don't get is people don't seem to be that bothered about the club wasting £8 million or more on kramaric. Or even okazaki. But paying £90,000 a week for vardy - £4.3 million a year isn't acceptable.

It's not just how footballers themselves deal with that much income and wealth, it's also the influence of "friends", family, agents and the likes. Keep in mind that the taxman is also getting a large slice of that cake.

You can still be a solid PL club without overpaying. There are plenty of stable clubs in the division - Everton, Stoke, West Brom, Palace, Southampton... As I said on the previous page I understand your point though.

A well run club with a future is surely better than becoming the next Portsmouth? Cap the wages too much and we're stating our intent we have no interest in competing at the upper echelons of the game. If we refuse to pay our players their worth in today's market then someone else will. As long as our income is more than our expenditure I have no problems paying any of them whatever that sum may be. No one is suggesting we become reckless and live beyond our means but the point of football is to break even financially, we're not a business where profit comes before everything else.
Steven Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 First the fitness, now the money. Chill out mate, if you're worried about someone elses money I'd hate to see how you deal with a high electric bill. If our players think they deserve double the money then they can do one. Performance related is the way to go, work hard get paid. .... or my tax bill.

Fair enough but I wouldn't want to settle for being like crystal palace when we've got an opportunity to play in the champions league. In any case Lukaku is on £75k per week apparently, Barkley not much less. I'm sure stoke and Southampton have a high earner or two.
Freesolo Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Cheap compared with Rooneys 300k! The market place will dictate wage structures even though us mere mortals think it's excessive and immoral! Greatest contract of all time his agent must be a genius, I would be embarrassed to collect it each month for doing next to nothing, his next contract will be closer to £30k
Freesolo Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 what do you think the goal bonuses are for our players? £5k?
davieG Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 If a few players earn a lot more than the others then the other players need to realise that without those few they probably wouldn't be able to earn as much as they are doing, I'm sure they realise that. As for the risk of it all going tits up then hopefully the contracts will include caveats like minimum selling price, wage cuts for relegation and significantly bonus weighted etc.
davieG Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Ranieri: Nobody believes in Leicester, but I do Date published: Friday 18th December 2015 12:01 Claudio Ranieri: Wants to build something big at Leicester Claudio Ranieri believes this season could be the start of something big at Leicester. After their great escape last season, the Foxes were once again tipped for a battle against relegation but under Ranieri, who replaced Nigel Pearson during the summer, they have defied the odds and currently sit proudly at the top of the Barclays Premier League. Victory against Everton on Saturday will guarantee Leicester are the Christmas number one – and only one team in that position in the past five years – Liverpool in 2013-14 – have failed to go on and lift the title. Ranieri’s side head to Goodison Park nine points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham and in a strong position to qualify for next season’s Champions League but the Italian has always maintained that reaching 40 points, the widely-accepted total required for Premier League survival, remains the aim. However, in a change of tack, Ranieri welcomed Sir Alex Ferguson’s assertion that Leicester could win the title and that he had always wanted to turn Leicester into a Premier League force. “I have read about who is top at Christmas Day will win the league, blah, blah, blah… but this is a strange league. Everything is strange,” said Ranieri. “Maybe it is right to listen to Sir Alex, because he is not involved in this race. “Of course I would like to win. Who doesn’t like to win the Premier League? Sir Alex knows about horse racing and about how the horses arrive in the last 10 metres or 100 metres. I want my horses at the end of the race. “This year for us is a good time to build. Now, nobody believes in Leicester. I hope in the next (few) years, everybody has to put Leicester in the top of the league. I want to build with this group, to be at the top for next season. “My owner asked me to be safe (from relegation). The rest is for us. I am very ambitious. I hope the players are even more ambitious than me.” Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have been instrumental in Leicester’s meteoric rise this season. They scored the goals in the 2-1 win against Chelsea which ultimately cost Jose Mourinho his job. Mahrez set up Vardy for his 15th goal of the season, registering his seventh assist, before the little Algerian netted his 11th goal of the campaign. And Ranieri was even more bullish when asked about Leicester’s hopes of hanging on to the star duo during the January transfer window, insisting that he had told them “you are going nowhere”. “Already I spoke to the two guys. I didn’t wait for them to answer!” said Ranieri. “I suggest to them it is much better they continue with us. We are in good flight now. We continue together, we can improve, to help grow up the team. “I won’t consider (selling) in the summer either. In my mind they are the first I want to keep and continue with this group, it is a good group. “It is important to maintain this mentality. This friendly group.” Ranieri will have to make a couple of enforced changes against Everton on Saturday. Danny Drinkwater (hamstring) came off injured against Chelsea and will miss the trip to Goodison Park while Robert Huth received his fifth yellow card of the season against the champions and is suspended. Andy King will replace Drinkwater in central midfield while Ranieri will choose between Marcin Wasilewski and Yohan Benalouane to fill in at centre-back in Huth’s absence.
AyewJoking Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 It seems to be common knowledge that the most we pay a player is £45,000 a week (that's a lot of doe!) But what happens when vardy gets offered double at another club. Or mahrez? Do we offer the same money or let them go? Just worries me that if we start paying 1 or 2 players a lot more than everyone else then it may effect the morale and spirit in the group. How would everyone deal with the Situation? give vardy, mahrez and kante 100k per week and give the rest of the squad extra cheese on their pizza's.
AyewJoking Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Greatest contract of all time his agent must be a genius, I would be embarrassed to collect it each month for doing next to nothing, his next contract will be closer to £30k if fergie was still at man u rooneys agent wouldnt have asked for 300k because he'd get laughed at. if i recall, utd were struggling under the new management of moyes and didnt want to lose further face by losing their star player. in fact they likely offered that amount in the first place.
MrSpaM Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Pretty sure we were paying Cambiasso a lot more than 45k a week last season
