norwichfox Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 iIt makes me cringe to see us following the Yankee way of having some squeaky bitch screaming out the National Anthem, can we either loose it altogether and let the fans do what they do best....SING rant over
Jackster21 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Exactly. The atmosphere would be 20x better if it was the fans singing instead of a singer. We only need the national anthem on international games in my opinion.
Matt Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 iIt makes me cringe to see us following the Yankee way of having some squeaky bitch screaming out the National Anthem, can we either loose it altogether and let the fans do what they do best....SING rant over The difference is the yanks would sing it for an everyday league match between Mansfield and Yeovil (No disrespect to either of those teams or the league they're in, just using it as an extreme example). I've got nothing against it in finals, as far as I can remember it has always been done, it's not a recent thing that we've followed the yanks with.
ChrisFilter Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Sack it off all together. It's an embarrassment.
Fox92 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I would think we did it before America. It's part of a final.
AyewJoking Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Its the final of an English competition so..............
davieG Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 The league cup used to be over 2 legs so no anthems would have been played. The FA Cup had someone on the pitch singing abide with me as the cup final anthem I never actually notice GSTQ being sung back in the day. Besides with teams full of none British players they be best to sing it before the team s come if they're going to insist on it.
J.Lisemore Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Did any of the fans even sing it? We could do with an anthem actually worth singing first.
purpleronnie Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Did any of the fans even sing it? We could do with an anthem actually worth singing first. What do you mean?, its an easy song to sing along to, half the other national anthems are impossible to sing along to and go on forever. It's fine, only brits would moan about our own anthem.

Jordan Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Without national anthems before games, there would be no moments like this:
norwichfox Posted 28 February 2016 Author Posted 28 February 2016 Without national anthems before games, there would be no moments like this: yea, my point exactly.....we're never lucky enough for the PA to be switched off during the squawking.

Jordan Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 There are some things we just do better in America. I don't know why the national anthem before the game became a thing over here besides us just generally liking exuberant showings of patriotism. Originally, the fans used to sing it before baseball games before the custom of having a singer became standard. Our anthem is a rousing one, and it's almost made to be sang before sports games. I hate when singers go over the top with it, but sometimes it's funny to hear a singer completely fail at it (see Carl Lewis). Every now and then, though, a singer completely dominates, with Whitney Houston before Super Bowl XXV in 1991 being the gold standard. It gets almost ridiculous when an American team plays a Canadian team in pro sports and both countries' respective anthems are played before, say, some meaningless Edmonton Oilers vs Buffalo Sabres game. In 2013, I played in the championship game of a curling "cashspiel" up in Canada against some tour players, and when the club wheeled out some guy to sing "O Canada" before the final, I figured "this probably means this is the biggest game of my curling career."
Darkon84 Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Everyone's got their own opinions about it, but one things for sure, there's a right way, and a wrong way to do it (which is, of course, just another opinion ) The right way.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr__-KqnfQM The wrong way .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj5NPNe3jNU
Finnegan Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 For the life of me I'll never understand why the Americans insist on ruining their anthem before games. Like Jordan says, it's actually a pretty good anthem when belted out at a normal tempo. The sort of rubbish you get pre Superbowl is absolutely shocking. Just have a band play it and mic up the crowd. End of.
