In amazing new scenes my eligibility for a courtesy car may be affected as I managed to get the vehicle to the dealership myself, so it was not technically recovered. Agreed with the AA man no point taking it there last night as it would have been all locked up

Managed to get a courtesy car arranged for today, so have been waiting in for it to be delivered.

Just had call to say that it's now not coming as it won't start, sending the irony meter off the scale.

The silver lining is that there's now a car available locally, albeit a shitter one

Before anyone says, well what do you expect from an EV, the irony of it was it was failure of the 12v battery, likely due to excessive drain from an as yet unidentified source, the exact problem the 14 year old Mazda I traded it in for had.

Great news for traditionalists worried about the pace of technological change, the old problems are still there to be enjoyed

Dropped knackered car off at dealership, double parked because at 9am there was literally no spaces on the site. Dropped off keys and was quite surprised they didn't ask me what was actually wrong with it

From a comedic standpoint this is great. For you, not so much.

I wouldn't be posting about it in this way if I couldn't see the comedy in the situation.

Also, I've been around a long time now and have yet to see much evidence that getting furious about things gets you what you want.

I'm off to the dealership now, so let's see if that goes smoothly or there are more hijinks to report

Update. Disappointingly uneventful. They were expecting me, were polite, helpful, and the car was ready and is fine.

Bit of a letdown really

The worst thing is, you got your EV back.

Not yet! Maybe this Friday.

The courtesy car is admittedly a crap one (but at least they got it for me) but bloody hell it feels like hard work. Going to be without the car for a fortnight, basically for a battery change like you'd have on any car, which feels like something has gone wrong with the system, somewhere.

I'd hate to have to go back to an ICE car now. That's done, like my LCFC season ticket

Got car back, thank f***.

New 12v battery (confirmed that's all it was in the end) but some new software updates/reprogramming were done as part of a recall that was done while they were at it was part of a recall that I didn't even know was needed. Not sad to see the courtesy car go, that felt like hard work

What EV do you have?  We have just had some major issues come up with our second car, and given the lovely incentives in Australia I am looking a 3 year lease on an EV.  Strongly considering the BMW iX3 at the moment as a similar quality replacement for the car we are selling on.

The iX3 is being discontinued isn't it? Presumably cars still available from stock and good deals too.

I've got an Ioniq 5 which I can heartily recommend (despite the 12v battery issue, which in fairness I've had I think on literally every car I've ever owned) except perhaps to people that are looking for a true premium car experience as it doesn't particularly feel like one despite costing loads, like all EVs

New one coming out this time next year, so they are essentially only building for another few months with standard spec.  Not sure the tax incentives will still be here in 12 months and I need one now really.

I think I probably prefer the IX3 current look to the new one anyway, I must be getting old!

Ioniq look good, but too small for us.

Have you sat in one? Interior space is enormous (I'm 6' 4" and plenty of room for whoever sits behind me) and boot supposedly bigger than iX3.

It's hatchback shape but don't let that make you think it's a small car. It's far more generous inside than a lot of SUVs I've been in

Picked up a '25 Subaru Forester 2 weeks ago to go along with our '24 Subaru Ascent. Loving the forester so far. Subaru's aren't known for being sexy but great for daily life and awd which i appreciate in Canadian winters.

Time to sell my 2010 civic. Going to miss it very much, it was unbelievable. I think it will last another 10 years! Only has 95k miles on it.

Looks like I'm done with new cars for another 10 to 13 years lol

Driving through Loughborough today and a 'H' reg Austin mini metro pulled up at the lights. Haven't seen one of those in years, I assumed they'd all rusted away and died, many years ago.

Yeah too expensive unfortunately - there is a cap at about $90k for this tax exception.  Honestly the IX3 is such a jump ahead from by wife's 2018 disco sport tech wise its plenty new enough for us!

Very popular over here too, as you say pretty tough to stand up to the conditions.

anyone test drove a genesis GV60 or BYD seal? assessing options for next car. Not having another Tesla as Musk is a looney

The ioniq 5N looks a hoot,  but the 278 range puts me off. Would like to test drive the KIA EV6 GT AWD

I got a Seal-U a few weeks ago and absolutely loving it.  Had such doubts as it was suspiciously cheap but it's been brilliant.  This one is a plug in hybrid, but the all electric should be over later this year.

Thanks - I’m seeing more BYD on the road and reviews really good, same with the genesis. Only concern is real life mileage with the electric so will check them out

Went to look at a Tuscon like every man and his dog at the weekend. They were fine. Then got pulled into the Renault garage by a friend that worked there and he showed us their Austral, basically the same kind of thing. In base trim it was a bit pants but they had a lovely Alpine edition in matte grey. Probably going to test drive it.

Was surprised at the sheer amount of models Renault had and some of them looked really smart. The Rafale Apline edition in particular but I would suspect the deprecation of that would be savage.

The Renault 5 EV looks really smart and fun, not practical for most but looks like a right laugh of a car, I reckon it will be really popular as an alternative for a mini cooper.

Horrendous interiors on the Renault 5. I'm not sure why anyone would do that. The Alpine version is nice.

The New Micra is coming out in the next few weeks, basically the same car, looks pretty good. Hoping the inside isn't as garish as the Renault.

I'm really hoping Nissan do a Nismo version that rivals the Alpine one, but they probably won't.

still loving our BMW i4.  It's got all the bells and whistles we would ever need, feels premium AND has decent range as well.   Only gripe is rear leg space............ Conversely, I've got a new job at work as a secondment, which comes with a company car.  As it's only a secondment, I've had to take a reallocation vehicle and I have a 2023 Hyundai Kona.... which is absolutely Pony. Awful car.
