Notts County away early 90s - help needed

Hoping someone can help. In the early 90s we played away at Notts County and there was a crowd surge when they opened up the gate to one side of the away end.

From looking through the fixtures, I reckon it was a 1-1 draw on 22nd August 1992.

Can anyone confirm?

I can remember we took about 7k over and there was a surge and crush and some fans

spilled onto the pitch. Warnock was in charge at the time but I'm sure it was earlier than 92.

It was the 1990-1991 season. Notts County were promoted that season. Believe Gary Mills scored one of the goals, maybe Reid the other? That's when we spilled onto the pitch through the gates at the front of their old kop.

The season after was the ZDS game which was a night match and i got soaked to the skin, so remember both games vividly!

Edited to add we were dogshit that season too!

This was it. Got absolutely drenched but a great day on the piss in Nottingham and a great night had by all

P.S. Now THAT'S what you call a decent away end

Edit. It wasn't this then  lol  :scarf:

I'm not thinking of the ZDS game.

From memory, it was sunny. Definitely wasn't an evening game.

It must have been the 2-0 win on 23rd March 1991 then? That makes sense as Steve Walsh was sent off in that game and I have a vague recollection of that. I was only six though.

In my head, it was also the first time I heard the Blue Army chant.

Yep we did win 2-0 and were Notts County's bogey team when they had a decent side in those days under Warnock etc...

Was that the season we just stayed up? My first ever away game.

They were pushing for promotion, we were dog shit.

They'd have had Tommy Johnson, Tony Agana, Craig Short....

Kevin Russell definitely scored one of ours.

That's the one. Mills and a Rooster penalty. Was my first ever away game too.

I was at that match and I think we did win but I can't remember the score.I remember I had the winner of the Lincoln that day if that confirms the date?

Joined several years ago, but I always just read.  I read everyday, but have never posted.  So, first post!

I was born near Leicester, lived in Nottingham and my Dad was a Notts county fan, my brother a Florest fan and my Mum (from Manchester) a united fan.  I had been brought up to support united by my mum, but, didn't want to support a team I really had no connection to.  So, when my Dad took me to watch that ZDS cup game, I decided, I'm going to support Leicester, after all I was born near there.  We won in Extra Time and I was an addict.

I live in the US now and my son is a Leicester fan, we watch every game together and he hasn't missed a game since he was 4.

I have taken a lot of stick through the years from my Mum's family for choosing Leicester instead... and my brother, because he's a Forest fan... but this past three years has made it all worth while.

I had to respond to this post and thank you Fez of Mahrez for reminding me of where this crazy journey began for me!

I was at the zds game too. 1 down with a few minutes to play, Tommy Wright equalized, Paul Fitzpatrick scored the winner in extra time. Scenes in the away end!

Went on to lose to Forest in the next round.

Some great away days at County. Remember shouting down their chairman too on another occasion. He started swearing at us!

Me, my dad and brother sat about 3 rows behind the goal. Will never forget Steve Cherry eye balling my brother after he stood up and shouted "OI, CHERRY, YOU FAT BASTARD"

Good times.

Not as good as now, obviously!

Yes it was a sunny afternoon around 1990, and I also remember hearing the blue army chant for the first time that game.

The game even though in division 2 made back page headlines because of the crowd issue. I was about 14 at the time and we got in the ground around 2pm and we were only allocated the corner terrace and it was packed already. As it became apparent there could be an issue they opened up a gate to the next terrace, which caused the crowd surge and people at the front were flung against the fence and onto the pitch through the gates. The stewards then made space in the home end next to us and moved loads of kids into that bit. I can also remember they had to open up another terrace as the crowd got bigger and bigger! Was quite scary as I was at the front with most the other kids.

Reassuring to hear it wasn't just me, that was my experience too although I was only six. It was bloody terrifying at the time.

Is that the game where they had to give mouth to mouth on a fan?

Just look at the brilliant one touch football we played that day, especially the second goal. We absolutely blew them away first half and I remember being truly amazed watching it.

Remember the crush, it was sunny, and it wasnt a pleasant feeling, being crushed, could of very easily been serious injuries
