Even with the new colour schemes, logo and font they should have kept the same shape for the sleeve badges as it's as iconic as the lion.

Both look class and would be more than happy with either. Begs the question, how the **** did they come up with that chosen shite?

That looks so much better.

I think they got a design company who have no experience in this area. The new look and feel is fine if you are an airline or a bank, but it doesn't reflect football or the Premier League well at all.

I like this a lot. A big improvement. Looks a bit like a fag packet, but it's really good.

Absolutely. This is so much better than what they did. I think the text looks a lot better placed like this, rather than curving up the side.

That's an excellent point! I think you've nailed it.

I was trying to work out why this rebranding doesn't suit the PL, and I think that's it. It would be fine for a bank, because they're trying to portray themselves as friendly, responsible people who aren't about to get you over the barrel. An airline wants you to feel like you can relax when you fly with them, because your life is in their hands.

The round, sans serif font they chose, and the decision to use lower-case letters, added with the garish, flourescent backgrounds, are all good choices to make if you want people to think of being safe, relaxed, cosy, etc. Basically everything that you don't really want people to think of when you think of the PL. The PL is one of the greatest football leagues in the world, if not the best. It's also probably the most intense, most energetic, fastest paced leagues in the world. The last thing you want people to think is that it's relaxing, cosy and safe.

To illustrate my point, just try to imagine that font and lower-case lettering on something like Death Race 2000, Battle Royale or Mortal Kombat.

They aren't. My word the badges look so out of place, It's like a kid has cut circles out of a piece of paper and drawn a design on them. Struggling to see how I can bring myself to put them on my new shirt.

How the PL have managed to get it so wrong is remarkable, to be honest.

These new badges have come out of some try hard branding company, probably cost a fortune, but a few lads on a football forum can still do 100 times better in the space of 30 minutes.

Here's an article that covers the reasoning behind the new design.

There's a few quotes in there that made me laugh and cry in equal measure.

And, as DesignStudio ECD Stuart Watson told us, there were practical problems with the old design that the new look seeks to address – “The old logo couldn’t invert, it didn’t work small, so all those things are gone now,” he explains. “We did about 600 iterations through many different stages to get where we are today. We wanted it to feel instantly recognisable to the existing marque, but be its own thing in its own way.”

Interestingly, Watson says that “the real driver behind [the new look is] this kind of digital, broadcast-first approach – make it work as an app icon, and worry about everything else after.”

“[The identity] is a huge tonal shift from buttoned up, shirt and tie, formal, reserved … to warm, human, approachable and informal,”

They've tried to make one of the most competitive, exciting football leagues in the world feel "warm" and "human".

I normally try and stay pragmatic and rational when people argue against "modern football". This though is utter bullshit.

They really are bad, no idea how they can come up with something so awful.

You're exactly right. It's meant to be competitive, aggressive, fast-paced, action-packed, etc. - not like a visit to the fvcking old folks' home.

Did anyone else notice on Bocelli's shirt that the badges had been put on wrong lol lol

You mean there's a right way?....One thing's for sure, Bocelli won't notice it.
