LestaFox92 Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 It's a little thing on the face of it but so annoying those old premier league ones are easily the best league patches i've ever seen atleast I hate box or circle type patches looks kiddish to me.
MC Prussian Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 I don't like the new Premier League badges and probably never will. They're a bit like Marmite. Or Nigel Pearson. Maybe with time, they'll grow on me. For now... I can't but shake my head at the trivial design, thinking about how much money the project must've cost.
Nick Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 So what will be on the shirts prem badges or champions league badges or will the CL kit be different / seperate and not have the prem badges on it.... Never really had to consider this before!
norwichfox Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 I think I'll get some old patches and get them embroidered with champions 15/16, these look utterly tasteless and completely spoil the look of what is a good design kit.
Larry_LCFC Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 This is what it looks like with the player size badges 10x better I think Am I looking at that wrong or are the patches on at different angles?
Jace Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 Am I looking at that wrong or are the patches on at different angles? Yeah they haven't been put on you can see them sitting on top of the shirt, would still be a better effort than the staff at the club
Nalis Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 It might look shit now but give it a few years and it will be a classic kit/Premier League winning badge combo.
AyewJoking Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 im guessing the premier league dont care/dont make much financial profit from fans buying these bages for their shirts so even if there was a widespread boycott from sales would it convince the premier league to come up with another design or better still, go back to the current ones?
lifted*fox Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 It's just mind-boggling how that design got signed off. People actually sat around a table and AGREED to spend vast amounts of money on that shit. Incredible.
Aleksz Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 As a graphics student, and as someone else said, It's just a graphic design trend at the minute I'm afraid. Flat background with pastel colour and san serif fonts with vector illustration. Its very modern looking and as a designer myself i like it... but at the same time as a football fan i don't. it doesn't look great as a brand for a football competition and the premier league should have put their foot down as the client in saying that rather than letting the design company follow current design trends.

After seeing this: I agree re: the appropriateness of it for the PL. Since seeing this other rebrand stuff, the awful patches make a bit more sense to me. I don't think this is terrible design, but I do think it's absolutely innapropriate for a sports competition like the PL. It might work for something like the Olympics, but I don't think it suits the PL even a little bit. It just looks very Windows 8 - a rip-off, even. Very uninspiring and unimaginitive. Lazy. I thought I'd give tweeking the patch a go again, to see whether there is anything you can do with it to make it not look so shitty. Exactly how far away were they from something that doesn't make people ask, "What the fvck is that?" I think the main thing I hate about the design is the vast amount of dead space. I think that's the main reason why it's so dull. I thought the best way to fix that was to just change the shape of it to an oval: I thought I'd add another level of lighting on the lion to make it a bit more interesting to look at. I changed the text, because it was all wrong - the font, the lower case lettering, the off-centre, curved placement - everything. Looked like something on the wall of a primary school classroom 30 years ago. Turns out I need to get some more fonts, because I haven't got the ones I want, but this was the best I could find quickly.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 If the text was a little more bold and in capitals it would look a little better. Maybe an outline around the text. Also, if the background was fully gold for our patches I wouldn't have a problem with it. PREMIER LEAGUE Premier League 1st one stands out much more.
shade Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 I like it, it would be smart if the lion was more imposing and less cartoony/lion king.
gerrytaggart Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 Couldnt care less if it was a picture of a dick...it says premier league champions on it. Thats all thats important.
Craig Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 They look crap, but it doesn't help that they look so small either on the 'fan' version.
HEGGSY Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 Am I looking at that wrong or are the patches on at different angles? The patches are absolute mess all over the shop

Yeah I'd agree the new branding is very much designed to suit LED based TVs, smart phones, 4k HD, retina display etc florescent colours are coming back in its almost a little too ahead of its time. The patches for me are just too small and don't have the sharpness that the new branding is designed for, thats why I think the larger patches look much better
lfu Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Also a graphic design student, the amount of blank space to the side of the lion irked me a great deal when I first saw the new patches. The lion and the font aren't a problem to me (although the font they used could definitely be better). Made a 30 minute concept of how I'd improve them without changing too much - Raw Dykes is spot on about an oval design being an improvement. It's a shame the new lion's crown is off-centre though, as it means I have to put "Premier League" off-tilt to match.
Newcastle_Fox Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Anyone bought the Official Premier League Champions patches from eBay yet and put them by yourself? How easy is it to iron them on?
Ricey Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Even with the new colour schemes, logo and font they should have kept the same shape for the sleeve badges as it's as iconic as the lion.

When I've repaired 1s that have peeled off before I get a white cloth like a pillow case or shirt, place it on top of the football shirt and then iron over for no longer than 10 seconds on a low heat (under 2) and then leave the cloth over the top until it cools down just to keep the heat in
