Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh with the Premier League trophy

Leicester City are Premier League champions, but they are not about to start splashing the cash to bring in a raft of superstars, head of recruitment Steve Walsh has said.

The man who has masterminded City's incredible scouting of Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy revealed that the City squad have asked him not to bring in any 'Billy Big Times' this summer as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of a Champions League campaign, title defence and their FA Cup and League Cup commitments.

City have been able to unearth their gem signings by scouring the world and looking in places other clubs aren't.

Walsh, the man who has the Midas touch, said they would continue to maintain the same approach.

"I think you've got to bring in the people who you think will do the job, people who fit in," said Walsh.

"I think at the end of the day you bring in good players, irrespective of what other people think. You bring in the best players you can that fit the way you want to play.

"There's so much information out there, there's so much DVD evidence, so it does make it more and more difficult.

"It's not just upon me, because I've got people working for me, bringing information and we've got to act on it.

"Obviously then decisions have got to be made with the manager, who can decide.

"Claudio enjoys the blueprints and the way we play. We try and duplicate that, so hence you look for similar type of players who can fulfil the roles in the team that you need.

Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez with the Premier League trophy

"I think it's about knowledge. You can't know every player in the world, that's impossible. But if you target certain leagues, which we do and you try to find the better players within that league, and then try and find out about them as much as you can.

"Once the season starts you've got until January to make a decision, you don't need to make a snap decision.

"So if you really believe in a player, get all the DVD evidence clipped up, but then get out and see them.

"But with that comes expectations of massive wages and big transfer fees, and that's certainly not the way we're intending to go. (Laughs) That might change, who knows!"

Walsh knows he will be busy this summer as City look to bolster the squad ahead of a much more congested fixture schedule next season.

"I think the problem is that because you're playing two games a week now," he said.

"We were fortunate this season that we were playing one game a week and we went out of the cups pretty early, so we only had the league to concentrate on.

Leicester City's N'Golo Kante with the Premier League trophy

"Maybe the bigger clubs, because they play so many games, they find that task difficult for both competitions.

"So clearly we'll need some extra players as well as adding to the squad that we've got, because there are very few players who we've got who are out of contract, so the ones who did it this season will be given the opportunity to see if they can duplicate that form and do it again."

As for finding the next Mahrez and Kante, Walsh admits he never stops looking.

"I keep telling the same joke over and over again (about Kante)," he said.

"No matter who we're playing we play three in midfield, we play Drinkwater in the middle as a holding player and we play Kante either side.

"As for Riyad, he was terrific out there against Everton. We will keep looking."

What does he class as big I'm sure a couple of 20 mill plus players will be targeted

I think 20m will be about the limit, if you look at Musa and his release clause. Most important though is that they have a potential to grow as players and if we were to sell there would be a profit. That was key under Nige and his signings and I'm sure it will continue to be.

This is far better to hear than the shite that David Sullivan is spouting, bragging about whacking 30m on a couple of players.

They can only do that cause their ground has come fully paid for and basically rent/maintenance free though.

I am well excited for summer, because when the first signing is someone you've never heard of and cost about £95.00 (+VAT) you know full well that they are going to be outstanding for us. We aren't going to be paying £30,000,000 for average PL players just because they have "experience" in this league

We've already had bids rejected in January for players of £15-20 million which I class as big money. Plus, we're now in the Champions League and there's so much money about that we'll find it hard not to pay over the odds for players. This article means very little but it's nice to hear it rather than what that prat from West Ham is spouting.

I must admit it did make me laugh when I saw that they were after Theo Walcott for 25m lol

Absolutely no scouting done there whatsoever. Just "We need a fast winger".

It really is ****ing frightening how much some clubs are willing to waste.

I can't wait til we we sign 28 year old left winger Tomaszc Kryacokuviachukz playing for the Polish equivalent of the Dog and Duck for a bag of Salt and Victory and a used clapper for him to win the PFA player of the year award.

Gonna be magic.

It is just good sense to say this. Coming out and saying we've got 150m to spend is just going to invite people to rip us off whoever we come in for. There will be plenty of that without us encouraging it. I still expect us to smash our club record, probably 2 or 3 signings above our our current record.

So happy not only with winning the league, but how we are staying true to what made us winners and also leading by example. Team spirit shouldn't be broken for any cost, because it can't be bought for any cost!

I don't think the recruitment side of things think too much about transfer fees - I reckon the primary factor is whether or not it's the player they want, they bid and if they want too much they move along to the next one on the list.
