Probably better, but would personally swap Alli to Rooney's position.

The more I watch Rooney internationally, the more he's more deep - whilst Alli's pace would suit the position you put Rooney in.

Just think that there is a way of getting everyone to gel well formation-wise, but Roy in paricular doesn't have a clue.

Yeah I've posted that team a couple of times and had Rooney and Alli the other way round.

I would even be tempted to drop Rooney, as he's moreorless a 'makeshift' in/out midfielder now.

Don't believe in defending at all then!

I didn't put Smalling in as, despite being one of the better ones available, he just reminds me of Sol Bamba and could do something stupid which may affect the game.

I didn't drop Rooney, because I know he won't be dropped. I'd personally have Milner in the deeper role with Alli at 10, but Rooney as Woy said is a mandatory starter.

It's a good job you replaced him with Stones then.

But must be doing something right if Barca tried to get him.

Vardy is better in left wing than Sterling.

Kane has been shit for ages.

Lallana impressed me (for the first time) on Saturday.

Wilshere > Milner.

You're moaning about smalling playing his way in to trouble but Stones does that nearly every week... Stones is a good option if you've no real need to defend and need players that can play the ball with ease first and foremost (like Barca) but that's not England.

A few pundits before the tournament said the same thing as what most people say. Our defence is not the best so we really need to look at scoring at least 2 goals a game as we are always open to concede. We take the lead against Russia and go defensive knowing Russia had to attack it was crying out for us to kill the game and get the 2nd goal. Whether that was Vardy Sturridge or Rashford.

Fair play to Rooney I thought he played really well in Midfield. A gamble that paid off (well sort of as we didn't win)

First half I thought we looked decent but ultimately dominated because Russia were poor. People saying the tactics were 'spot on'. How on earth were they spot on if Kane was so ineffective.

Also do people have any idea why Kane is taking corners? I can only guess that its due to him not wanting to head the ball after he had to wear that mask. Sounds a ridiculous reason but I cant think of any other reason why. Can anyone enlighten me on that?

I was so pissed off after the game but I have calmed down a little now. There were positives to take from the game. Thought Rose and Walker benefitted well from Rooneys passing. Dier played really well and his free kick was brilliant.

Ultimately though I cant stand Hodgson and his negative defensive mindset when it comes to seeing games out.

If he continues with Kane then for me he should either give him a partner or go 4-2-3-1 which Kane is used to playing for Spurs.

I fear now for the Wales game. They will have no fear and no pressure after their win. Still cant wait for the game though

For all our dominance there was lots wrong. Any self-critical coach would have been frustrated and asked himself a fistful of questions.

Isn't it amazing how so many different people can watch the same game and come to completely different conclusions ;)

IMO, for example, I thought Lallana found himself caught in a position that didn't suit him at all - kind of half-way between the winger (Walker as a advancing wing-back) and a number-10, if not the right-side striker - neither of which I thought he was suitable for at all.  It's not entirely his fault, but whoever planned them to play that way...

Our centre midfield pair of Rooney and Dier were about the only players who I thought had a good game, but there was nothing ahead of them to really do anything with - Walker and Sterling on either wing never managed to do much, (and as I said), their roles completely nullified Alli and Lallana, and since no-one was left to take it through the middle of the park, Kane had no service at all...  Almost pointless :P;)
