Beliall Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 The single most dissapointing thing about the game last night, is that for 60-70 mins we pressed high up, tried to make things happen, and had the guy who scored 24 goals last season doing that on the frakking bench. Sterling was diabolical. i would rather see vardy on the left wing than him
Izzy Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Knowing the F.A it will probably be Pardew or Curbishley next Or Southgate I bet he's being 'groomed' for the role and the FA will back up his appointment by saying he won the recent under 21 tournament.
Corky Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Agree with all of Scouse's points. I was annoyed Vardy didn't come on but even more annoyed with the equaliser. Hodgson isn't great but I'd rather he was winning games because England would be doing well. I see the want for a change of manager but Hodgson is here for this cup so we might as well back him then hope he moves on. I think the equaliser has clouded a lot of views because it was a decent performance for 80 minutes and one that should've won the game. Concerning that we can look so comfortable against a poor side and still not hold on for victory. ttfn's point is so valid about sitting back late on but still having a counter attacking threat with fresher legs.

We controlled possession for most of the game, but we never really looked like scoring. So it can't really be labelled a decent performance. Another worrying thing is Hodgson's team doesn't fit with his squad. He's clearly got no idea what his best team is, nor the formation he wants to play it in. He's named a squad with players that would fit in 442 diamond but played a 433. Named one winger and 5 strikers, and plays one up top with two out on the wing. I mean surely you either pick a formation and pick the best players to suit it, or you pick the best players and try and fit them into a formation that suits them. We've done neither. We've got no idea what our best team is or what formation we intend to play and the tournaments already started. We're experimenting in the tournament!
Ric Flair Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Kane was dog muck last night, one of the most inept performances I've seen from an England player in a tournament in a long while. His lack of pace was criminally exposed last night and I'd send him home immediately. If Vardy, Sturridge or Rashford doesn't get serious minutes on Thursday then Hodgson can get fcuked.
foxes21 Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 still cant believe he didn't take Albrighton & townsend
Finnegan Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 It shows how far you've fallen when you think you played well in a one all draw against a garbage Russia. Playing well means creating and taking chances. You had a lot of possession, like Tottenham, funny that. And like Tottenham, you're now convincing yourself that that means you were good.

foxes21 Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 being completely unbiased, Nigel Pearson is probably the best English manager at the moment. But he is everything the FA wouldn't want. He's not a yes man, he'd pick players on form, whatever the club, and he'd probably tell Rooney to fuch off and die.

I am taken aback by the positivity of the reviews of last night's performance having been at the game. Seems unbelievable that a team can win a domestic league by 10 points having been top since January and yet their national team gives them no representation and draws no influence from their system and style of play. The England set-up is completely ignorant of the last 10 months of English football, arguably going back even further than that.

RowlattsFox Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Problem with getting rid of Roy is that I can't see a replacement. Got a scary feeling Roberto Martinez might be in with a chance of getting it.

Playing well means creating and taking chances. You had a lot of possession, like Tottenham, funny that. And like Tottenham, you're now convincing yourself that that means you were good. Sort of puts the whole English set up into perspective.. We did play well, but again players who didnt show in the PL, displayed their weaknesses, of flattering to deceive, then as alway blowing it in the final 3rd. Ali , I do like but he was well below par, should not be a shoe in, and like kane seems to be carrying the downer of PL poor finish. Rose, Walker, and Dier are better fighters emotionally and have kept their heart into the fight. Lallana another who looks good, and 2 yrs ago deserved his inclusuion, but his finishing is poor, not just yesterday, hes been in great positions, and not even hit the target. Sterling, not turning out to be that 50m player is he.Doesnt attack his oppo players, stops and checks too often, his great darting runs with purpose, have ceased. For me he shouldnt get a start again in this tournament.Sub yes but nothing more.Pep might get him sorted hes young enough. Why Townsend is sitting on the beach instead, I dont understand. Milner took for his experience, coolhead, and utility player, really blew it.All he had to do was close out players ,especially in the last few minutes. He ran out like a 18yr old, and misjudged totally the press and hold up moment. So his experience was not on show, absolutely waste of selection, of what he could bring to the table. They left Drinkwater or Townsend 2 form players, back home because of him. Rooney, no complaints he imo played well in that midfield spot, though the tactic of him feeding Kane, was non exsistant,Ali and Lallana blocked that thought. I had no 1st bad thoughts on Vardy not starting, but after an inept performance in the the last quarter of the field, it was staringly obvious that after 50 mins, Vardy the only player from the PLeague winners, who just happens to be full of arrogant confidence, should of come on.No Vardy in the next 2 games means, we wont advance further. Vardy and Kane must be paired together , with Rashford or Sturridge to come on later. Wilshere is for me a must to start, now he seems fit. With a PL type game, now coming up... Lallana,Sterling , should not be starting leaves 2 places for... Wilshere and Vardy. If we dont win against Wales, Hodgson and his staff should be handed over to the French police they deserve each other....
fuchsntf Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 This. I am taken aback by the positivity of the reviews of last night's performance having been at the game. The England set-up is completely ignorant of the last 10 months of English football, arguably going back even further than that. No bias...but top, top post. The other countries were running scared , of the new English ethos, but it turned into relief, when Hodgson made his squad selection. Amazing that no English media outlet picked upon, the feeling , and astonishment coming from opposition coaches, fans and their media. Probably unlike some of us expats, they cant understand any other language, or read the papers. Italians, French, Germans, and the Spanish think it was a strange selection policy from Hodgson, and from last night, couldnt understand the lack of Vardy.... Today a local sports Radio in Germany, did a review on last nights game, and a couple of ex players plus commentators, mentioned the positive selection of spurs younger players, but suprised by Milner, Sterling, Henderson, selections, mentioning the lack of Leicester players. Another talking point, that even brought some ridiculing laughter, was Kane taking corners, and total mis use of his true attributes. One of them even said, imagine Low telling Muller, or the old Klose should take corners...

m4DD0gg Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 To be fair to Pearson he would not take any shit from the FA.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 To be fair to Pearson he would not take any shit from the FA. That's why he or anyone like him wouldn't get the job. Come on down Gareth southgate.
m4DD0gg Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 That's why he or anyone like him wouldn't get the job. Come on down Gareth southgate. Sadly i think you are right. No hope really is there.
Mikey Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Thought we played well for 80 minutes. His subs were baffling. Like others have said, so strange not bringing Vardy on, or even Rashford to stretch their old and tired defenders. Especially as Kane was so ineffective. Thought Walker, Rose, Dier and Rooney were good. If we're going to play that formation, can't understand why he wouldn't take Townsend. I mean, I wouldn't play that formation but if he wants too then can't see why he wouldn't take another winger. Obvious that he had no idea what team he was going to play when he picked the squad.
Nalis Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Put Allardyce in charge, it would be dredge football but its effective and he's a legend so would probably win something.
4everfox Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 I'd like to see the role of selecting the England squad taken off the manager and given to somebody unbiased, like a Leicester fan.

Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 I thought I might become a bit more philosophical after having a bit of time to reflect on last night's game, but if anything I'm even more bewildered now. What was Roy thinking? The concept of Harry Kane taking corners gets sillier and sillier each time I think about it. Harry Kane's goals in the 2015-2016 season: 23 out of his 25 goals were from inside the box. He's a natural goalscorer and Roy puts him on corners where he definitely has no chance of scoring. And then you've got the bloke with the second most goals in the prem unable to even get a run-out. The two centre-backs for Russia, Vasili Berezutski and Sergei Ignashevich, are 33 and 36 years old respectively. They are big lads who lack pace, and the sort of defender Vardy has consistently embarrassed all season. All the Russian lads I know were bricking it at the prospect of Vardy skinning their ageing defence and couldn't believe their luck when it came out that he wasn't starting.
FuchingKante Posted 12 June 2016 Posted 12 June 2016 Feel like shit today, can't believe we managed to throw that away.
