Alf Bentley Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 "As the BBC reports, Crabb is proposing to create a £100bn “Growing Britain Fund” that would use government borrowing to fund infrastructure investment. Crabb would put money into projects including flood defences, a national fibre-optic broadband network, Crossrail 2, social housing, school buildings and new prisons, and he and his ally Sajid Javid, the business secretary, believe this would create “hundreds of thousands” of new jobs." Seems very similar to a John McDonnell policy that has been widely derided by the Tories. Could Crabb be a Corbynista fox in the Tory leadership chicken coop, perhaps? Where do I sign to join this new Conservative Party (Marxist-Leninist)?
Guest Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Leadsom up. Nervous start but now in the flow. Not a great orator. For the working people. Against the rich and the bankers. Immigration to be reduced.
Guest Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 protection of workers rights. minimum wage. EU workers already in are safe. Sounds quite centre - left to me.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Emotional health commitment. What is that? Mental health to you and I.
Guest Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Mental health to you and I. Wow! Strange Emotion and mental are now synonyms.
Guest MattP Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Certainly between Leadsom and May now, I favour the former, the only thing that worries me is her lack of cabinet experience. Tories will have two female Prime Ministers before Labour has had one.

Guest MattP Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Dianne Abbott can tick two boxes though, so the tories could be usurped with any luck Let's hope so Did you see her question to teh house on Friday? Imcompetent doesn't even cover it.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Ok, but hands up who knew Davao del Norte is in the Phillipines (which is in reasonably close proximity to Inndonisaia)? It's also worth noting that that region quoted has been suffering from a drought - so it's a pretty cheap political point to make by Greening (who herself is a pretty awful politican).

Surely the best qualified is what matters not what they have between their legs.

Me or you aren't working full time in International affairs, though if I was going to ask a question on something in the house I'd make sure I had my facts correct, triple that if I'm in a position and a job where I actually should know it. That's a level of competence I expect from someone who is asking the public to vote for them to be the International develepment secretary.

You're not naive enough to think that portfolio ministers really know about that much about their briefs are you? When they need to know they ask the full time workers about a situation.

But equally, should we expect Greening to be more thorough in her response, given that; A) Indonesia exists B) Daovo Sel Norto exists (albeit in the Philippines) C) Both regions are suffering from drought conditions I'd have had more respect if the joke line was played first, but then followed up with confirmation of what action the UK government was taking in both regions - but it wasn't.

To be fair, telling Diane Abbot what is happening is not hugely likely to make any difference to the people of DSN.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 To be fair, telling Diane Abbot what is happening is not hugely likely to make any difference to the people of DSN. But is it not a chance to tell the wider public, not just Diane Abbot?
Strokes Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 But is it not a chance to tell the wider public, not just Diane Abbot? We should all send over bottles of Evian.
Guest MattP Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Gove now sticking the knife in Osborne saying he's got to go. Has he made it his mission to take ever Eton educated Tory out the party?
Buce Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Wow! Strange Emotion and mental are now synonyms. Not really. The distinction she is trying to make is between depression/anxiety (emotional health) and mental illnesses like schitzophrenia. At least, I think so.
Thracian Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Leadsom up. Nervous start but now in the flow. Not a great orator. For the working people. Against the rich and the bankers. Immigration to be reduced. I'll pass on the "great orators" and be perfectly happy with someone who has the right ideas and follows them through. Blair used his stick-on grin and slick lines rather like a snake charmer using his pungi and look where that led! .

Guest Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Not really. The distinction she is trying to make is between depression/anxiety (emotional health) and mental illnesses like schitzophrenia. At least, I think so. For me Emotional would run a gamut from Exhilarated happiness to heavy depression but going out in a spider web to all sorts of things. I just never knew that was the new expression for a type of mental health problem. Now I do. So thank you Mrs Leadsom. I'll pass on the "great orators" and be perfectly happy with someone who has the right ideas and follows them through. Blair used his stick-on grin and slick lines rather like a snake charmer using his pungi and look where that led! . To us leaving the EU?
Thracian Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 On the one hand people talk about "equal opportunity for all" and on the other they say we should move away from choosing people from a public school background in favour of someone from a state school background. Do people ever actually believe in any of the principles they spout about? Democracy being another? Is it just what happens to suit at the time. Or shameless hypocrisy? Ability and attitude is what matters to me. It's that simple.

You've got the situation on public / state school background wrong - the argument used by most in this area is that going to a state school shouldn't be deemed a disadvantage for those who obtained the same grades as those attending a public school. This debate was purely about equality, not positive discrimination.
