Another utter waste of money. 1.4 million would have been nearer the mark and even that would have been overpirced. He wouldn't even be good enough in the Championship.

Strange isn't it? From day one, even before his injury, I couldn't see what made him special and don't think he's been outstanding in a single game so far. How could we be so wrong about a player or is the best all to come?

I just don't know and it isn't just him either. I also don't know why we didn't try harder to get players used to the Premier League instead of shopping in the so-called cheaper leagues. Personally I think the huge successes of Mahrez and Kante has allowed our judgement to become clouded and our sight blinkered. I can't see how things are going to improve and if we go down I don't think we have/will be able to keep the nucleus of a side to get us back.

I agree. The magnitude of what we did last season is huge, but to not look at prem ready players is blatant stupidity. I wrote my first thread about Raul Meireles and Michael Essien both out of contract and played in the prem. We could sign both on a short term and hope they can do what Esteban Cambiasso did for us when we stayed up.

Did we sign Mendy as a sort of Kante replacement? Similar 'type' of player?

Christ almighty! Ability wise, the two aren't on the same planet!

No, it was said at the time that he was there to add to the numbers and he's supposed to be more a Drinkwater type than a Kante one. Kante's stats were all about tackling and intercepting, Mendy is more passing and possession.

In any case he was terrible today, really shocking.

Cheers mate. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the best of Mendy is still to come.  He's been injured, dumped back into a broken team and not got up to speed yet.

He was captain of a good Nice side and I mean... There's got to be more to him than this...hasn't there...surely?

No worries. Happy to help.

He wasn't labeled as a Kante or a DD by anyone who had bothered to study either of them.

He hasn't played like either of the two . He played and excelled in a 433, as the fulcrum in his previous team.

He's been fine at what he was bought for, if you don't play him in his position, then you are a complete moron to expect more than that. So let's blame Ranieri for now.

No one will ever replace Kante, but Ndidi shows promise and could be the real deal in future. If only we had signed him in the Summer instead of Mendy, perhaps bringing in Jo Allen or Gueye

Gueye and Ndidi would make a fantastic partnership.
