Mendy is our best hope

Did you lot watch a different game than me??

Watching from the stands he was one of the only few players to come out of today's game with any credit.

A number of times he won the ball back or held it up well, but then either got crowded out or there was no one out wide on the left for him to pass to (which is his game - long, accurate passes). A number of times I saw him gesticulate towards Gray to come out wide for him, as Gray kept drifting inside at the wrong moment.

I'm a huge fan of Drinky, but it was he who played the worst of our midfielders today.

He got subbed at half time! That doesn't back up your view of his performance today.

You do know, in spite of all the defensive midfielders we've brought in..Mendy, Amartey, Ndidi....we have now conceded as many goals this season that we conceded ALL of last season.

As many goals conceded with over THREE MONTHS worth of games left.

Even to the most ardent of 'they'll be great in the future' types, that stat, right there, is unarguable.

Its appalling.

Both our various midfields and our back fours have been utter dog shite.

Our forwards ain't been much better.

Let down by Claudio playing him on the left in that diamond as he should be playing in holding midfield.

But, I seriously hope he isn't anywhere near fitness or he's looking like a League 2 player. So off the pace and whilst I hope he gets up to speed (clearly there's a good player in there), we can't afford to carry him in any more games.

For a defensive player he doesn't appear to be much of a tackler or intercepter.

His interception stats have been very good in a few games. Just a reminder that he's only played a handful of games and been out injured half a season.

I didn't get the signing when it was first made, but you have to give him a fair crack and it's pointless picking out individuals when pretty much everyone is playing shit.

I though Mendy looked better than Drinky and Ndidi in the first half.  At least he puts himself about.  Built like a joint of gammon.

Aye he's certainly started to put himself about a bit and get stuck in, cant knock him for his effort. I know we've not seen a great deal of the guy, but it doesnt take a genius to asses his skillset and gauge a rough idea of his overall level and unfortunately I dont think he offers anything other than what we already have got in spades. Always seemed an odd signing to me, everyone thought he was a direct replacement for NK which he definitely wasnt as was obvious with a quick glance at his previous seasons stats.

I don't think it's fair when you play a diamond without attacking full backs and ask Mendy and more so Drinkwater to attack the wings. They are out and out central midfield players who love the give and go. You can't play that way with Simpson scared to venture beyond the half way line and not offer an option. We messed up tactically there.

Yeh I get that but this lad was bought to improve a team that had won the league and yet I'm not sure at the moment whether his performances can justify a place on the bench never mind the starting 11. Never mind the rest of the team, there's much more competition in the middle so he's more easily replaced. Ndidi Looks more effective and I'd expect Amartey to come back in as well based on comparative performances so then you're looking at him competing with Kingy to warm the bench, not a great output for a relatively expensive player. I just wish Matty James was fit.

He's seemed far more mobile the last two games without doing anything exceptional. Sadly we need the creative player alongside him in Drinkwater to make things happen. Drinkwater is in horrible form, it stinks worst than 14-15 and he knows it. It's not nice to see and I hope he can dig in and turn it around but right now Drinkwater is the problem.

CR had managed him previously and perhaps remembered him with rose tinted spectacles, like all of us might with some of our hotter ex-girlfriends.

He's rubbish.  No creativity whatsoever.  Looks like a little lump ambling around the pitch.

He's a defensive midfielder. If you want him to take it past two players, give and go and smash it into the top corner then I don't think you get it. I don't  blame him, I blame the person who signed him. He came from a team that had most of the possession and played as an anchor. he had time to make very good long passes. Yet we continue to try to play another way.

Good player, shit signing.

I just expect a bit more from a 12 million pound player.  I have seen little evidence of these 'very good long passes'.

Strange how we sign a player from a team that had most possession and played as an anchor, and stick him in a side that has little possession and play him on the left side of a midfield 3!

I remember him playing a fantastic ball to Gray in the first half down the left wing. Few and far between though. When we get the ball everybody panics and passes it to the nearest person.

How on earth does that make any sense? He was subbed because we needed to take a CM off to bring on Albrighton and revert to a 4-4-2, not because of his performance.

For the 45 that he played, he did as I stated. Claudio didn't take off Ndidi because he was playing relatively well, so it would have been a choice between Mendy and Drinky. And he was never going to take off Drinky.

Personally, I would go with a Mendy and Ndidi pairing in the middle for the next couple of games. Drinkwater needs to fight for his place back, as do Vardy, Fuchs, Simpson and Morgan to be honest (although we have no real alternative RB to Simpson until Amartey returns and no realistic CB alternative to Morgan unless we sign someone). I hate saying any of that so soon after last season, but the results and the performances so far this season don't lie.

I thought he played better than Ndidi myself .

Yes so did I.

At risk of being labeled a 'hater' once more on this, sometimes ridiculous, forum...Ndidi yesterday looked like a kid in a mans game.

I watched his facial expressions a few times after we had conceded goals and free kicks etc...and I think he now realizes just how different the Premiership is to the Belgian League and just what a disorganized team he's joined.

The potential is there without a doubt, but again, we need a quality CM NOW. I have no idea who is making the decisions at the football club at the moment.
