Captain... Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 It is of more interest to the press and general football fans, true AFC Wimbledon fans won't care. They don't recognise MK Dons as having any association with their former club, so they are just above another league 1 side.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 Wonder how those in MK are feeling now when they justified stealing Wimbledon from its fans by saying it would take too long to build a club from scratch. Funny how things turn out.

Let's hope Milton Keynes go bankrupt. That's an exceptionally awful attitude to take. Why do MK's fans deserve to see their club liquidated? Their chairman is an arsehole but the people of Milton Keynes are no less deserving of a football club than anyone else and they've been following it for over a decade now. For some of their younger fans, that's probably all of their football supporting life. It's amazing the hypocrisy and double standards of football fans based on arbitrary shit. The small handful of Wimbledon fans that actually attended games prior to their dissolving (fvck all, let's be honest) have my complete sympathy and, yes, it was shit that Winkleman got to start so high up the pyramid. But it still doesn't validate piling misery on MK's supporters.

Why do you think that because they were a small club the fans deserved to be treated like they were? Nobody would have anything against the people of MK if they had grown their own football club as you would have thought a town of that size was quite capable of doing. But they have shown themselves up for what they really are, an artificial London commuter town, with no history and no soul. Who were quite happy to steal somebody else's football club. I had family living there at one point as well and it really is a dreadful, dreadful place with no personality a million roundabouts and no sense of community whatsoever.

Then they should have supported local clubs in the area trying to make their own way up the league pyramid over the previous decades (I get MK is a new town, but there ought to have been enough interest for this to happen - look at Stevenage, Crawley etc), but they couldn't be arsed so they waited for someone to transplant another team high up enough the ladder into their town. No sympathy from me, hope they go bust.
foxy boxing Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 brilliant for afc wimbledon who were sold out by those who created mk dons

How can you claim that their true fans are not going to be bitter about the way they were sold up the river by the bloke who's now in charge of MK Dons? There's been plenty of evidence of the contrary. They may claim not to care in an effort to show pure disdain for their existence but as if they won't get immense satisfaction from doing this, considering where they've come from and how they were treated. They can't pretend that the 2 clubs aren't associated, because they blatantly are to everyone who follows football and even that will fuel hatred.

They can't pretend that the 2 clubs aren't associated, because they blatantly are to everyone who follows football and even that will fuel hatred. I have a number of close friends that are AFC Wimbledon fans and they have no interest what so ever with MK Dons, you will not find many official comments from the manager, players or fans about this "achievement" when they were drawn in the cup there wasn't any excitement about beating MK Dons. Both clubs say there is no rivalry, the main thing Wimbledon fans had issue with was that MK Dons had their history including their FA Cup win. That has now been resolved. Wimbledon were fvcked moving to Milton Keynes was a last ditch attempt to stop them going out of business, it was also an opportunistic ploy by Winkleman, but it never would have got off the ground if Wimbledon weren't homeless and going bankrupt. AFC Wimbledon fans have had a great time supporting their club through the league pyramid, while MK Dons have drifted into obscurity, after resolving the historical achievement issue there is nothing for Wimbledon fans to be bitter about. Unless there had been a miraculous rescue package they would have probably had to start again whatever happened with Milton Keynes. Not every football fan is sad and bitter.
boots60 Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 They're both above Coventry. That'll do. Just a matter of time before the shaggers & f****t join them in league 1. Seriously, this is good news for all fans of the underdog.
Guest Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 In reality I don't have too much animosity against MK Dons at this point. The franchising of football that started (and hopefully ended) with them was one of the worst things in football in the last 20 years. Scared the bejeebies out of all lower league and poorer clubs. However, they did give back the trophies and the claim to Wimbledon's history, which was a big move at setting things straight. The only thing I'd like to see them do at this point is give up the "Dons" part of their name. It's a bad reminder of move that shouldn't have been allowed. "MK Dons" sounds silly. And it leaves the good people of Milton Keynes forever living in the shadow of being that-club-that-was-stolen-from-wimbledon. All winkleman really wanted was a league position anyway. Which you can't really take back (don't need to now) and is such a transitory thing anyhow. So if they switched their name to Milton Keynes FC, I'd be happy enough with that.

Can't remember exactly but I could have sworn there was an actual (non-league) club in Milton Keynes at the time of the move, or maybe just a few years earlier.

I think there were a few in the area (admittedly none very high up) but again, any one of them could have risen through the leagues with enough support - same as how any other club in England got to where they are today.

There was a Milton Keynes City in the Southern League back in the 1980s - always near the bottom of the division, poorly supported and eventually went bust.
