Come back with an actual argument based on facts or sit down mate. Well I'm sorry but it's just a fact that both the brexit and trump wins were based on votes which came mostly from people without further education. I'm not saying those people lack intelligence.

There's definitely an age factor at play as well. Older people voted predominantly for trump as they did with brexit. For me giving them the excuse that they're sick of lefties telling them how to think is letting them off lightly. They just want to be young again, back to a time where they could offend minorities without repercussion and keep women in their place like they could in the good old days. Just think back to some of that god awful rhetoric about the empire we had to listen to during the brexit campaign. Those people are off their heads. Try as they might voting for old fashioned principles isn't going to make them young again.

People should be encouraged to take each political issue on it's own merits as each political issue is different. I'm not offended I just think that either you are not serious, or you are one of these uneducated folk you keep talking about.

Personally I'd rather chop my own bollocks off than even entertain the idea of looking at their website and adding to their click traffic (or whatever it is called). My parents used to read the mail and they became convinced that every 15 year old in the country was on drugs and hung around street corners waiting to mug them. Now it is "immigrants". The DM (and others) love to create division - it is their aim. I was also the only one in my office to vote "Remain".... Google Zinoviev letter.

It puts the Daily Mirror in second place with 17.5m readers over the course of a month and the Daily Telegraph in third with 16.4m (neck and neck with The Guardian on 16.3m). 23 million dumb fecks Says it all really

But it would signal a change of approach and would also seem to be a tacit admission that they don't believe they can win the argument by use of reason.

The answer to your question is no. This campaign started after the brexit court case, not after a headline about immigration which seems to be the primary beef. For this reason I considered bunging it in the EU thread. But it does have wider implications surrounding the press that need consideration.

Jon the Hat Posted 13 November 2016 Posted 13 November 2016 Consumer pressure has its place, but this being offended by what people not the same as you think crap has resulted in huge swathes of the population voting for the opposite of what the offended said would happen. So maybe concentrate on debate and discussion not censorship and no platform bullshit.

More or less it's not even factual, and hidden apologies are too little to late as the damage is done. I'm all for reasoned debate utilising facts. But supplementing and stoking hate is not reasonable, and the purpose (once again) of the this particular campaign is not to censor a different viewpoint, it's for corporate entities to consider whether they want to align themselves to sell their products within a media outlet that feels it's okay to publish a long and relentless campaign that adds nothing to conversation or discussion about, rightfully, areas of concern for a proportion of this country.

Webbo Posted 13 November 2016 Posted 13 November 2016 I'm 51 years old, I come from a poor back ground. I've been in work since I was 16, I've raised 3 children, I've paid a mortgage, I've claimed family tax benefit, travelled abroad. I follow the news, I'm quite well read. I lived through the middle and end of the cold war. I've experienced Labour/conservative , republican/democrat govts. In short I've experienced a bit of life. . The idea that some over privileged 23 year old with a third rate degree in media studies from the university of Scunthorpe has a better grasp of reality than me is laughable.
