It works be setting a particular agenda on a particular topic and repeatedly twisting facts or in fact making them to suit that agenda, and consistently putting these through headlines on their front pages over and over and over again, and through their websites using clickbait techniques. Then when pulled up on these, hide the apology in tiny writing in a corner of the paper or webpage that the regular readers don't see or care to read. I see a campaign to put newspapers out of business because you don't like their politics using exactly the techniques you're talking about.

Hates ****ing hate. If you take umbrage cos you read those shitrags and assume that I'm making conclusions about yourself then that's your issue not mine. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS. THEY ARE NOT AIMING TO DO SO. FFS.

Webbo Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 It's called confirmation bias, you hate an alternative opinion so you convince yourself they're spreading hate. Learn tolerance, practice what you preach.
Benguin Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 13 minutes ago, sphericalfox said: I find it amusing that you think this papers are engaging intellectual debate. There's plenty of 'daily' examples, but these ones were obviously pulled together by some lefty loon/foreigner/ minority selectively making them look bad, and clearly these headlines are merely reflective of a political stance rather than some twisted hate agenda, and of course any organisation that advertises within these papers should be proud to make profit on the back of this, shouldn't they? Way to completely miss the point of my post. I'm not saying that newspapers don't sensationalise stuff etc Left wing papers do it just as much as right wing but because we live in a society where we want to be offended, right wing hyperbole seems more outrageous. My point is that these left-wing movements such as third wave feminism, black lives matter, 'we live in a rape culture,' you're a racist, #buzzword, #whitelash, #everydaysexism, stop funding hate are the route cause of shock results like brexit and Trump. Nobody wants to be told how to behave or think, people don't like being called a bigot, racist or misogynist for having an opinion. The left doesn't engage in intellectual debate but just shuts people down by labelling them with a buzzword.

It's nothing to do with "fashion". When a newspaper can't print a front page without a negative article relating to Muslims then they're bound to reaffirm a lot of reader's opinions on that religion. By the way, the idea of shutting down newspapers is totally and utterly ludicrous.

I've heard similar on the TV. Are you saying we can't report the truth if it includes muslims?
Strokes Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Stop these newspapers peddling hate because we hate them

One last try? you patronising **** As mentioned, but these papers refer to foreigners/muslims/benefit scroungers, you name the minority, and linking them to negative, and untruthful headlines this creates, feeds, and supports hate. It's not ****ing rocket science. Truth requires facts. Something that is usually lacking in a DM or Sun piece.

sphericalfox Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Just now, Webbo said: It was an attack on a mosque? How is that spreading a negative about muslims? Yes, of course, stupid me, two words in that headline spring to mind, why a reader might link a negative with both, especially given the other headlines that they normally read within that paper.

How many schools this year alone have received sanctions because they have been pushing an extremist view?

GaelicFox Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 People have choice where to get info from , more choice Than any time in history I hate the British press , BUT they serve a valuable role the fact the daily mail gets 15 million hits a day says everything you need to know about manh people in This country

EastAnglianFox Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Genuine question, would this campaign have even been started had the referendum result been different?? Not as intelligent as many of you on this subject given your posts but it seems some look as hard as they possibly can to find "hate" in a headline which then ends up stirring more shit than the sodding headline did in the first place. Webbo taking a fair bit on here, but I certaintly agree with everything he's said and im just glad he can put it far more eloquently than me.
Guest MattP Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 My word, whenever you think the left have embarrassed themselves beyond what you think they can do some others step up to the plate. Now it's becoming don't read what we say, how I spent a day wondering why people voted for Trump I have no idea, I could have saved all that time just reading posts from Sphericalfox. Looking forward to my Sunday Times and Mail on Sunday; if this takes off I'll buy am Express every day as well.

Describing them as enemies of the people is not the best critique I've ever seen, personally. I would say that's quite definitively inciting hate. Short of actually printing "you should hate these people", I'm struggling to think of how that headline could possibly have incited hate any more strongly.

The fact is that both brexit and trump were won by uneducated voters. The left just needs to learn how to communicate with those types of people; to 'dumb down', for want of a better phrase. Both the trump and brexit campaigns were very dumbed down, I think I read somewhere that trump's speeches we're at the level of a 5-year-old, or something like that. The left aren't necessarily wrong in a lot of what they say, particularly on social issues, but they flower it with such pseudo-intellectual bullshit that half the population just switches off.

You are part of the problem. Branding the silent majority as uneducated. Come back with an actual argument based on facts or sit down mate.
