Ian Stringer said after the game that Ranieri has nothing to do with signing players it's left to the DOF

Is that right? and if so I'm quite surprised at this.

I was convinced Mendy was one of his  signings.

Think he means DOF is responsible for negotiating with the player Ranieri wants to have in his team etc, as mentioned above.

You've misunderstood. The Director Of Football is there to negotiate with other teams and agents. The manager selects his targets based on his knowledge and the scouting reports and presents it to the Director Of Football who organizes the deal. All signings are the managers signings.

That's what I thought, but it didn't sound like it.

If somebody can find audio after the game that would be brill,I'm sure strings said that he doesn't identify players just coaches them.

Apart from Kante every signing that has come in since Ranieri took over hasn't improved our first 11.

We had 2 players on the bench who cost a combined £46 million and neither of them would have got in our starting 11 last season.

Whoever does do it seems to have lost their mojo in the last year. There's to many players who you look at think maybe we've had our pants pulled down there.

We've found it hard to find players who are significantly better than those who won the league last season. Which isn't a surprise, when you think about it.

So just spend loads of money on people who aren't going to improve the squad. Brilliant.

I cannot believe a top manager doesn't select which player to sign.

My understanding is the scouts identity players, manager decides if the player suits his style, or has final say,  dof deals with the agent and selling club, and negotiates the financial's.

If stringer is to be believed, the managers career is at the hands of a scout, if the scout falls out with, or dislikes a manager, all he has to do is buy shite players, end of manager.

Stringer has got it confused, Claudio would have final say.

Probably lost in translation somewhat. Usually clubs with a DoF do leave signings to the Director but they will be in close contact with the Coach. For example the coach and scouting team will say they need a Striker with some potential targets and then the DoF will see who is available and sort out the deal so the coach can focus on coaching.

However, there are numerous examples of this setup resulting in players being signed who the coach doesn't want with Balotelli being a great recent example.

I dont think we have issues like this but you never know...
