Who should be in the first eleven and on the bench for the rest of the season?

It's amazing how some people already have players like Musa and Mendy back in after one week, the reason they can't even get in the side now is because of how awful they have been whenever called upon.

Anyway for a few weeks...

Kasper

Amartey

Benalouane

Huth

Chilwell

Ndidi

Drinkwater

Gray

Albrighton

Mahrez

Slimani

Mendy has been better than Drinkwater whenever they have both played.

Immediate bench:

Drinkwater (rest of the season)

Mahrez (At least two games. Can be used as impact sub, if needed).

Vardy (rest of the season)

Morgan (rest of the season)

Huth (if others fit, rest of the season)

Fuchs (rest of the season)

He has, but he isn't a better player than him.

Whatever we do, we are going to have to get our best players back to some sort of form if we want to stay up, we can't just sideline them all.

I guarantee after two games of watching Musa, Mendy and Shinji bundling around you'll be saying "give Drinkwater and Vardy a go again".

The side will change but we aren't going to be benching anyone for the season, we somehow have to get these players performing again.

4-4-2 with Mendy can't be worse than Drinkwater. His (non) performance yesterday made me livid. He needs benching.

It is indeed nearly impossible to have them all on the bench. Shinji's contribution to the team has been terrible and frankly the only benched one I can agree with. I don't rate Musa and am firmly convinced that he's not cut for this league. But he tries at least and gives everything.

We're going to lose against Liverpool anyway so why not? The others need to understand.

I have 4-3-3 in mind, if we only could get Riyad out of his lethargy. Mendy, Amartey and Ndidi on the middle. Gray, Slim and Mahrez upfront.

Excellent analysis by @catfordfox in the original post in this thread:

(I'm on a self-imposed ban from FT, but still lurk occasionally and think that post is one of the best bits of LCFC analysis I've seen for a long time).

Kasper

Amartey Morgan Benny Chilwell

Ndidi

Mahrez Drinky King Albrighton (Or Gray)

        Ulloa

Ulloa up top, not because he's our best forward but because we can count on him to bang in a few well-timed goals. Our counter-attack is over-- we need to shore up our third and take it from there.

What makes people think Benaloune, who has had no impact in 2 years and even looked shaky against Derby Reserves, is going to improve things at the back?

Likewise Ulloa, who has looked out of his depth all season? Or Mendy who hasn't had a good match yet? Or Wasyl who has been a bombscare every time he's stepped on to the pitch this season?

A lot of these teams on here are way over the top. Just because our reserves beat a disinterested, unfit and frankly awful Derby Reserve team doesn't mean they are the solution.

Yes changes are required, but just bringing in average to poor players for the sakes of change is not the answer.

We need a bit more pace at the back an we need another way to create, but the latter is less about the players and more about tactics.

im not sure people are sure that it is going to strengthen things at the back. what most people are saying is that something needs to change because our defence is terrible and unfortunately with the window closed if they arent performing which clearly they arent then the only way we can change it is with what we already have. clearly talking to the players isnt working so we have to try something or we could jsut stick with the dross we have now and accept relegation if we havent already.

I haven't really got a clue what our best side actually is, mainly becayse we've been so crap and had to keep changing it. One things for sure, that back four is a horror show right now and as they are incapable of defending or getting the ball in to the midfield then all four of them can get fcuked. I am looking at the likes of Drinkwater and Vardy and struggling to see why they should be given anymore reprieves. They need to earn their place back in training and from the bench. I also don't know if we need to change from 4-4-2, the formations of 4-4-4, 4-4-1-1 and 4-3-3 are fairly similar really so unless we're looking at going 3 at the back which I don't think we need to I'm going to leave that alone. As I've never seen Molla Wague it would be a little stupid to have him in but I honestly don't want to see any of that back four ever again, they have had so many chances and made so many mistakes this season. If Wague is muck then get Albrighton in at right back and see if he can plug a gap.

Schmeichel

Amartey/Wague

Wague/Amartey

Benalouane

Chilwell

Albrighton

Ndidi

Mendy

Gray

Mahrez

Slimani

Mahrez is skating on thin ice with me but the lad has so much ability that if we organise the defence and midfield in to looking to pass the ball as much as possible then we might see Mahrez come to life. Against Swansea we never ever looked to get the ball out to him with any urgency, it only ever came to him through chance and that is scandalous. If he can't get involved this season then I'd replace him with Kapustka and see what he's like. I think Mendy looks to play football as much as possible without being very adventurous and alongside Ndidi there's a blend of defensive protection and trying to get the ball out to our wingers and number 10. Slimani is surely our only hope of goals right now, he's missed two sitters in the last two games but we must get crosses in to him as much as possible. Defenders will hate trying to mark him out the game and until Ulloa comes back in to the fold or Musa shows anything as a striker he's our only hope. Vardy has fcuked it, I'm not even considering him until he proves his worth from the bench.

Get Lawrence and James back. We need to try everything and anything. Never should've loaned out James in the 1st place...

I believe to cancel season long loans (Lawrence) both teams in question and the player must agree to this, not sure about Matty James though as he was farmed out in January... and then there's the question of registering the players....I also have the feeling that the club won't want to be paying any additional wages given what's gone missing from our back room and threadbare development squad

These boys deserve another crack at the starting 11, it's been a long time now since the Portsmouth 6-1 debacle.

Are you saying they're penny pinching already? Wow things are bad! TBH I don't think a stubborn CR would want them back, he's made his mind up about James I fear. He'll blindly stick with the same failing team from now until the bitter end.

No CBs?

Interesting.

But risky.

We have been playing without CBs for months now.

Very strong bench, i like it. To have options like that on the bench, particularly Junior 'the magician' Lewis is the stuff of dreams and just shows you how strong this city team are.
