possiblygeorge Posted 15 March 2017 Posted 15 March 2017 Time, time, time, time and time again have we heard excuses from the likes of opposition supporters making excuses for why we'll fail or why we haven't even been tested yet. This thread is a dedication to the supporters, as well as "experts", who claim they know our Football Club inside out better than we do and why we won't have further success. This also dates back to the Great Escape season, the title winning season and currently the season where we're making the doubters look right foolish. The excuses as to why we are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League is because we "haven't played any decent opposition". MYTH. -Porto, currently second in it's respective League, a point behind Benfica, third last season. Beat them. (Excuse the second leg we played them, dead rubber, rested players etc) -Copenhagen, last seasons Champions in the Danish League, currently first, lead by 12 points. -Club Brugge, last season Champions in the Belgian League, currently second, two points behind Anderlecht. Wiped the floor with them. -Sevilla, have won the last three Europa League finals, correct me if i'm wrong, currently third in the Spanish League, five points behind Real Madrid & Barcelona. This is a splitting image of last season in the Premier League. "You haven't played anyone good yet, you still have to play Manchester City, United, Chelsea etc etc" We keep proving them wrong. This is the perfect thread to make the doubters look right foolish. Post the best excuses you've heard in this thread, would make for good reading
Brainy Posted 15 March 2017 Posted 15 March 2017 Add to Copenhagen that they have only lost one competitive game since last May (against us) and beat Ajax at home last week

HybridFox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Attempts to make an excuse but then can't even elaborate

The ex-player punditary quality has dropped in knowledge, delivery and lack of awareness on whats been happening around europe at all levels. Mind you I like Keane and Dickson, they dont tend to go on rants, or have pangs of bias or jealousy. Lack of success doesnt follow or mean standards have dropped.Top teams are now having their tails burnt more often than ever Before. The also rans have better quality players, with their individual skills being shared with their team. Chelsea have imo a better team now, than their great consistent successfull yrs. They refound their mojo this year, with Conti and not because of Kante. They really do have the most WC players in their top 15 players. Spurs are nearly there, but that certain tic and top link is still missing.even with Ali, and a mean defence. Arsenal have lost that killer characteristic, and extra bite. Man.city invested in overhyped, non team players. Worst defence in any top 5 leagues in europe. Sterling should go back to Liverpool to re-kindle his career, hes at the wrong club. Guardiola has always had a team he could handle tweek and play with, I dont know why but Man.city as mentioned have not got a squad that meshes, for long periods. Tonight they were void of any ideas from within the players on the pitch. This is when these high costing players should and must be showing their worth. Silva and Aguero excused... Manutd, not quite there, next year could see the rebuild and MOURINHO magic click in. Liverpool, still missing a top striker, and high quality fb and CB. Their squad is not that strong. I see only Chelsea carrying the coeffecient for England next season, unless Manu scrape top 4, then use the summer well.Top CB also needed. The next season after that...well Leicester will be back, and Spurs just might find their badly missed bottle. Wengerless Gunners only in euroleague.
Aus Fox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 We beat the best team in Belgium Spurs went out to the 8th best team in Belgium. We beat Sevilla the team that beat Liverpool in the Europa League final.
Babylon Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 What makes me laugh is they say how easy our games have been, totally ignoring though how many times over the years the "big" clubs have failed to take max points against similar clubs. Whether it's Valencia, Athletico (lower then Seville in Spain), Anderlect, Celtic, Porto etc. They've all taken points from English teams. All we heard last year was we won because the prem was poor, not long ago we heard it was back to normal now with big clubs performing... we'd still be second after this number of games last season. So one team has improved a lot.
Kalacs_Orthopedic_Shoe Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Even if we won it they'd still find reasons to undermine us and make out it's footballs shortcomings; rather than our own unique attributes that have allowed us to achieve these great things. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Rialto 290352 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 My feeling is the media's "very grudging respect" for City goes back to the Administration days. The lack of support and desire to talk down all that the club has achieved goes beyond irritating. Their noses were put of out joint last season but, of course, their favourite big clubs were all having a bad season! This European Cup we have an "easy draw." That was because we won the league by ten points and thus had a high seeding. Did we let down the league? No I think you will discover that Arsenal did that.
Nalis Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I love how suddenly Monaco have become a better team than Seville solely because we beat Seville and Man City couldn't beat Monaco.
shailen Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Last year was a fluke is my favourite one. Because a team can win a league based on luck over 38 games. One man team - Kante.
st albans fox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Citeh supporter on talksport yesterday saying that we have had an easy run and Seville are in poor form. Thus we haven't faced one tough match as yet. Lost one in thirteen before Tuesday. they all talk crap because they just go on broad assumptions and not facts.

LittlethorpeFox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 You know the likes of Merson, Souness, Carragher could think of nothing worse than us winning the champions league! Rio, MON and Jeff Stelling are the only ones i have seen in the pundit box who seem happy for us

At least he admits that Man City aren't a 'tough match' seeing as though we've torn them a new one the last couple of times we've played them.

Seville are only 3 points behind Barca
EGBFitness Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 We won the by fluke is certainly a favourite - you don't win a league by fluke! Big clubs are in a 'transitional phase' - Spurs strongest they probably ever have been, Arsenals celebrations V.Day last year/every year is going to be there year, Chelsea had just won the league, United spent over £100m, City spending big and expected to get the title back. Compared to other groups, yes our group was more favourable but by no way does that mean it was easy. Brugge was probably the only team you'd say was 'easy' but every group had a team you'd feel confident to have a result against. Porto/Copenhagen have been regular champions league teams, beat some big teams in previous years and biggest teams in both Portugal & Denmark. Sevilla was a hard game! They are 3rd in La Liga and won europa league last few years. Not many would of fancied Sevilla. Monaco are a decent team but not sure they are as good as Sevilla.
HybridFox Posted 17 March 2017 Posted 17 March 2017 Ok so let me get this straight... First, they say we're the weakest team in the competition and we're gonna get battered in the next round wheoever we play. But now that we've drawn Atletico, we have an "easy draw". Eh? But we were gonna get battered? You're not starting to worry are you? Haha silly hypocrites
Ted Maul Posted 17 March 2017 Posted 17 March 2017 My favourite by an absolute mile (and it's a widely held belief in their fanbase as well) is Spurs' "no one was trying against them in the title run-in". It was absolutely glorious winning the title over them, their fans are just like Arsenal's but with no success in the last 30 years to back it up. They still absolutely hate that we won it- before every berk and his dog started bombarding LCFC posts on Twitter with nonsense about snakes, much of the hate was coming from Spurs fans.

When we beat Swansea 4-0 at home it was because Swansea didn't try. But when Spurs beat Stoke 4-0 it was because they played incredibly well?

Holes punched in walls, smashed glasses, feet through TVs, etc.
