Does Cook have an expiration date though? Is it just reassess after this tour.

For me no, retires when he wants after what he has done.

Good toss to win, let's make the most of it.

Absolutely right. No one has the right to tell England's leading run scorer when he has to go. Additionally there are no replacements coming to the fore.

Will watch this for an hour and a half or so, and hope to see us still batting in the morning. Glad to see Bairstow move up, although not far enough for me, and would've liked to see Vince and Malan exchange places in the order.

I wish Stoneman was young, would be a great prospect if he was.

Needs to convert these starts think that bouncer to the helmet rattled him a bit this dig.

Malan's scoring shots are very easy on the eye.

If we are capable of scoring close to 400 on this pitch then i dread to think what Australia could post in the 1st innings.

Fantastic day, got the order right and we look right on top again.

Time for bed, these matches turn me into a shell of a man.

Agree with all of that. Still, perhaps Cook will find another vein of form before he retires and Stoneman will make up for lost time.

A couple of quotes I heard indicated that Cook is considering his position (possibly not available for overseas tours?) in test cricket . If he does he will be a massive loss and deserves the country's gratitude for his skill and application as a top quality batsman and captain.

looks like leaving Malan in the side was the right move !

If there was going to be any change to the batting line-up, it would've been Vince out for someone. We might as well just bat a catching cradle at three.

and then pray the bowlers can set about them tomorrow evening

thing it’s a lazy wicket and a draw could he on

Lads is Cookie Cooked ???

He's struggling.

From his quotes I think he's pissed off with the behaviour of others, must be annoying to be sent to bed at 10pm every night because the kids can't behave themselves.

I can’t see how he starts the 4th test if he goes cheap in 2nd innings

if we lose this then I suspect he may the be the guy on the bonfire of This series

You say that, but who plays instead? No one stands out.

Delighted for Malan. Has shown excellent application so far this series and deserves a big score. Hopefully we can push on to 450 tomorrow and give ourselves a chance of victory.

I think he's safe for all five tests because of what he can do.

No one to replace him anyway unless they go for Jennings.

Can't see it, just have to hope Cook comes good.

If Jennings comes in for anyone it should be Vince.

This. He should be the number 3 for the future IMO.

Cracks in the pitch already according to Athers.

Draw still favourite for me, lack of a decent spinner again could cost us come the 4th innings.

Whoever it was that decided Moeen should bat ahead of Bairstow should be on the plane home already.

Dreadful collapse...but if you'd offered me 400 batting first at the WACA against this bowling lineup before the innings started I would have taken it.
