Other way round I think. He definitely played during Taylor's spell at Filbert Street.

I have a weird memory of him being on the same pitch as Roberto Mancini at one time...

I saw one of those games, and I spent the whole game in despair wondering why no one on our team would pass to Mancini.

Looking back, maybe they were trying to pass to him all along, but just weren't good enough. lol

Erm Joe Mattock wasn't bad was he? I remember him being a very decent young left back who we had to sell to the baggies against our wishes (as fans). Don't get me wrong as a person he's a scumbag.

I thought he said that West Brom were a bigger club and that was why he wanted to go, which is more what I was referring to, but maybe my memory is wrong.

Maybe it was more appropriate to the after-match thread but finding  the answer I wanted would have meant trawling through pages of posts.

I, for one, being clueless, didn't get the 'watch' celebration so this revelation that Vardy was taking a poke (albeit light-heartedly) at Mahrez makes this thread informative - for me, anyway. I'm not sure though that Mahrez himself might 'get' it and, if he did, think it was as funny as Vardy did.

The thread seems to be serving us (in spite of the completely unlinked Junior Lewis comments) in clarifying the players' attitude to this. I saw the Albrighton comment in the gossip section of Red Button - that the players aren't angry. I can't quite believe that no-one isn't irritated or brassed-off with his antics but maybe they understand him after knowing him for however long.

I'm not sure what that indicates about their cohesiveness and team spirit - whether he is generally liked as an individual and his aspirations are understood or they're aware that football is a constant stream of players moving - that movement mostly generated by the decisions of clubs rather than players. They're all aware that clubs will dispense with their services however loyal or committed they are, so maybe, at the fundamental level, they have a lot of empathy for him - the older ones anyway.

I'm glad I'm not totally alone on thinking it was interesting. I haven't been able to cope with the bile, so I haven't really been on much since saturday. I guess that whatever folks think we are all a bit tired of it now, in fairness.

Don't want to get into it further, I'm sure we broadly agree. The more I think about the whole incident, the more cross I get with his agent and cronies, and how he's actually a pawn in a game he partially created.

I teach a Derby fan, who decided to tell me this morning that 'Mahrez is too good for Leicester.'

I asked him how he thought Gary Rowett is, and he said he's really good. To which, of course, I said 'yeah, he's too good for Derby.'

Job done.

I think his original agent wasn't a big name, I think he was Algerian, and perhaps a bit out of his depth (this is quite speculative on my part). But if he had insisted on a £75-80 million release clause (close to a world record at the time, but certainly not any more), things would be a lot simpler now.

If the West ham model is anything to go by, I suspect this will happen, I just can't see Mr Srivaddhanaprabha  folding to Manchester City pressure.

That's what Mahrez needs to remember- the owners won't let him go on the cheap in the summer, no matter now disruptive and petulant he is between now and the end of the season. I'd say they value their pride more than the sort of money we're talking. Their ownership of Leicester City is all about their brand, and they won't want to be seen to be bullied by a player and his agent.

I don't think the RM situation has ever happened before in football history

Of course it has. Pierre van Hooijdonk?

When Vardy appeared to tap his watch it never crossed my mind that it could be a dig at Mahrez. I assumed it was some kind of reference to the time he scored, maybe a bet with the others that he would score within 20 minutes or something, or just him being happy that it was fairly early on? I think some people are reading far too much into this whole situation, Mahrez has got the arse, we don't know for how long, but almost certainly he will be back.

His ego outweighed his talent. One of many young players who lose their way and amount to very little sadly.

Are you talking about Mattock or Mahrez?

Banter

Jamie lives for Banter and no better way to let his team mate know all can be forgiven

Mahrez is insecure and obviously a temperamental French man , let’s hope he lifts his bottom lip soon and comes back and fires us back to Europe

'What time do you call this, Riyad?'

No matter how frustrated he is, I'll bet that made Mahrez smile. Top work from JV, and nice to see Albrighton weighing in today.

Immensely talented footballer wants to play in Champions League shocker! I don't think the RM situation has ever happened before in football history, so I'm not surprised everyone is so angry. ;)

Anyone who remembers Joe Mattock will realise how far we have come.

What a twat he was/is

It was definitely a dig about Mahrez being late, but light hearted.

Personally I interpreted that celebration (that Nacho instantly joined in with) was one for him and Nacho..... I thought maybe they've been nagging to play together as a front two, and that was to say "15 minutes in and it's working".....

However, it could be b*llocks!!

I've not really seen the celebration but I'm not sure what it has to do with anything or why this needed it's own thread....

Anyway, I'm not sure why I need to point this out but I will regardless: The issue isn't that Mahrez wants to play in the Champions League, the issue is that he has refused to train or play for us, has publicly kicked off and just generally acted like he's more important than the club every time he doesn't get sold for peanuts.

Got it? Ok, next Mahrez thread that misses the point, please.

On reflection, my reaction to this was over the top. In principle, I much prefer to play the ball, rather than the man. My apologies Kitch, life is too short for losing ones rag on t'internet.

They were bored on the team bus, and stumbled across Chico
