Seriously though his agent is an absolute genius. 4 year contract after a run of what, 4 games in the side? Fair play to the guy he's set for life now, but I'm sure he would obviously rather be fit and playing.

***2.2 games. Here's a 4 year contract. Madness

Players can be kept about for more than just footballing reasons, Wasyl was pretty much useless his last two years for instance. I know people can't wait to get rid of the likes of James and King for fancy names. But, just like Silva pointed out, it's players like those guys who are incredibly important for the squad and the spirit within it.

Them helping Silva settle when he was at his lowest, shows exactly what they are all about. I might not think King is a great player, or that he offers us much any more on the pitch. But I've certainly never wanted him gone if he's happy to be at the club lower down the pecking order. Because some types of people are important to have about.

Definitely share your opinion re King. Some of the stick he got on here was ludicrous. You need characters that gel the team together off the pitch so can understand the importance of someone like James.

Perhaps 4 years is a tad generous, mind.

I suppose that depends on the deal really, all we know is it was four years. Not whether he took lower wages, longer contract for security. Or whether there is a pay as you play deal involved. Who knows.

We could feasibly be paying players who are on loan elsewhere more than we pay James, and they aren't even here!

Yep, James was a massive help to Silva as they spent a lot time in the gym together.

Cant help but feel for James. He's a terrific footballer and has had some absolute rotten luck.

Exactly why King is more use to us than James.

I think this.

They both retain the ball (sideways and backwards) but King will be able to play in more games and scores more goals. Even this season he got one at Southampton.

Not really, He started 19 out of 20 games for Barnsley he then impressed during pre season and started our first 4 games. He was also linked heavily to a move to WBA. Obviously in light of latest injury, with hindsight it was probably a mistake but trust me at the time he signed no one was complaining.

The point I'm making is that he started 2 games then was rewarded with a contract.

They are a stone cold business decision. if people got new contracts because they deserved one don't you think they would be sitting down with big Huth now dotting the I's and crossing the T's?

He was given a contract because it made business sense to keep him after he had proved his fitness at Barnsley and pre season rather than sell him on the cheap to WBA.

To be fair I feel for the guy, fancy wanting to do something you love and only have 10 maybe 15 years at best to do and your body keeps letting you down.

It's not like some who've wasted the talent they have or had. Hope it works out for him one way or another.

As for the contract, we don't know what's in it. As somebody has already said.

Haven't seen him play much but for me he's too injury prone. Don't know if he should go or not but won't get another game in first team. Unfortunately it's as Don Meredith sings "Turn out the lights the party's over...they say that all good things must end".
