A massive explosion has rocked a building in Hinckley Road, Leicester.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the explosion at about 7pm.

The building to the left of TJs, near Hinckley Road post office, appears to have been reduced to blazing rubble.

Debris from the building has been blasted across both carriageways of Hinckley Road.

Firefighters and scores of police officers are at the scene. The Road has been closed, and people are being asked to move away from the area.

A resident who lives a few streets away said: At about 7pm, we heard an absolutely massive explosion. It was quite frightening. We went to look out of the upstairs windows and saw loads of smoke, and then a few seconds later massive orange flames.’

It's changed hands a few times in the last couple of years and I don't think it had been open for a while.  I'm worried that there might be a flat above it though, some of the shops along there have them

That doesn't look good at all. You wouldn't rate your chances very high if you were in that building at the time.

Hopefully all are ok

I expect Morgan's Bar, TJ's & whatever the shop is now (or was) would have all been open at the time

I went in Morgan's Bar a couple of times - it's always been a dangerous place to be

Probably. I've heard a suggestion that there had been some renovations going on there, don't know if that's true though

Christ yes. Apparently there were a couple of walking wounded - my mate spoke to a bloke who'd been in there that had a nasty cut to his hand

Live on Sandhurst right on the corner of Glenfiekd road and can see the flames from here. Looks awful. Heard some silk rumours going round. Just hope there's no fatalities.
