You wouldn't have taken 34m for Mahrez two years ago.

Probably not because Mahrez was PFA footballer of the year.

I'm not sure what your point is then.

Ah so you'd keep him here until his contract ended and then let him walk out the door for free.

As opposed to selling him below his value and turning the club into a perceived small time selling club? Hell yeah I would.

You’re the one comparing apples with oranges by comparing the value of Sadio Mane (who had achieved nothing in his career at that stage) 2 years ago with Riyad Mahrez today in order to prove your point that we’re no more of a pushover than anybody else.

I’m not sure I disagree with your point but the examples used aren’t helpful.

Any that's "for the good of the club" how please?

Irrelevant. Still awful club management.

Not really.  Kante's release clause allowed us to sign him in the first place and we won the league.

Without it it would not have happened.

...but I digress.

Sadio Mane got 15 goals and 9 assists that season for Southampton. Very comparable to the average Mahrez has achieved with us (One terrible season, one unreal season, one poor season and one season similar to Mane's).

Because we won't be perceived as a small time selling club... Its not about money, it's about sending a message and that message would benefit us more in the long run.

To counter this - it's also important that we are not perceived by potential players (and their agents) as a club who are unwilling to sell. This will stop players from joining in the first place. It's not about ceding that we are a "small time selling club" but realising that we are not in the same league as the absolute elite but want to be an as attractive as possible proposition for players looking to make the leap to elite.

I've got a good source who told me that when the window started we were holding out for £90m but when Man City realised how ****ing irritating the Algerian fanboys are they wouldn't go over £60m. Good deal for us imo

Better to take a hit of a few million now and have time to plan, and get the players in you need than wait until deadline day, and then try and make bids of £70m on the last day trying to replace him.   Every club will just add £10m on to the fee.   Better to do a deal now and plan properly.  Going to deadline day and squeezing every penny out of the deal is a false economy.

You can't rack up the price when only one club is interested. I hope they have a nice comfy bench for him.

Just in case anyone isn't aware of how deep this idiocy goes... @4everfox has previously said it would be fine if we ended up with Mahrez not playing for the remainder of his contract and leaving on a free i.e. forego 60-odd million quid we'd get for him in order to 'send a message'.

Elsewhere in the news, @4everfox has made the surprising admission that he is not a multi-millionaire.

Why would any top class player want to join a club with no ambition? Because selling players below their value = no ambition. There isn't anything wrong with actually selling players for what they are worth you know, that's how ambitious clubs operate.

Then why are you bothered about the fee!? lol

Well it's all about principles.

- Flushing 60M+ add-ons down the toilet.

- Sending a star player to the reserve whilst still paying his wages and then let him go for free.

- Reflecting a disastrous image which will be gladly relayed by the media who love us so much.

- Creating unrest and a toxic atmosphere in the dressing room due to the Mahrez situation and making

players nervous if it comes an eventual transfer.

- Putting off any talented player who will never sign unless a release clause is inserted.

All of this doesn't matter, we will stick to the price because we're no push-overs. That'll show them.
