Simoken Posted 12 April 2019 Posted 12 April 2019 I think King is an absolute legend and should be considered as a footballer all young stars should look up to considering how loyal he is, which is a rarity nowadays. But... He is ****ing sh!t end of really. We move on.

blue army 1988 Posted 12 April 2019 Posted 12 April 2019 Great servant for the club and while he was here a few years ago he was a top quality midfielder. But you do have to compare him to what he have and could have now, and he just doesn't cut it for me. Move him on so he can get game time else where.

IIRC he scored and ran the show in their only notable victory (4-1 against West Ham) during his spell there. Not gonna pretend he's on the level we should be looking at anymore, but that loan spell suggested he's still capable of Premier League football. On that basis, he's good enough to keep around for cup games if he wants to stay and can buy into the Rodgers tactical playbook. Kingy's main flaw in the past has been that he goes missing in games far too often. When he's on it and involved in the game, he's a solid midfielder with a good balance of defensive contribution and attacking wherewithall - ghosting into the box late to finish is what most would consider "classic" King - and the few goals he has scored for us in our Prem era on the rare occasion he's been allowed to play in a more advanced role have been true to that. I still think he's been wasted under multiple managers playing him in a deeper position than suits him - he's an AMF to me, and thrived there in the days before EPL promotion, especially in the League 1 season and in 2012-13. So yeah, in a nutshell, stop trying to pretend that Andy King is a midfield engine, play him further up the field to press high and get involved in team attacks, and you've got a useful asset. Whether that's for us in cup competitions or another team in the upper Championship / lower EPL remains to be seen, but if Brendan is able to see his strengths and utilise them (as he seems to be doing with other members of the squad), he could take a lot of strain off Maddison to play without having to sacrifice our shape in cup competitions. (PS - don't mention Newport this season. That whole match was a tactical embarrasment. We had Ghezzal practically playing as a CF, for Fuchs' sake).

Carl the Llama Posted 12 April 2019 Posted 12 April 2019 Love King, until Vardy came along he was my generation's Mr Leicester. One of a select few I would have absolutely no problem with the club keeping on the books for legacy's sake, and for what he offers behind the scenes and on the training ground. Everything he's achieved in his career has been with us, unless he's actively seeking to move on it would be a shame to force him out in his twilight years now that we've outgrow him (no small thanks to his contributions). If he eventually wants to go into coaching we should be the ones to offer him that opportunity as well.

You asked me who I’d rather have, a player whose been playing or one that’s not been as he’s been injured . My answer was if you were referring to King and James neither as I in my opinion they both need to go . You didn’t ask me his position in the squad if you had I would answered with I wouldn’t have him in the squad . Simple really
broughtonblue Posted 12 April 2019 Posted 12 April 2019 Rodgers said at the q&a that we have too many defensive midfielders in the squad and wants more balance with attacking midfielders, also some young players need game time on loan. So i think Mendys time here is limited because he loves wilf, think Hamza will go on loan, said he loves James's personality around the squad so think he might stay, so although a legend in my eyes I think he might be moved on as hes not the attacking force we need now
