And that is the problem with linos being told to keep their flags down for tight calls...

Shit like that will still get missed

Completely agree they should officiate like there is no var otherwise what’s the point. This is why I prefer a review system rather than continuous var monitoring. Although having said that I do think the advantage should be with the attacking team and marginal calls not given

Went for Russia 1-0 the rest of this game is just going to be stressful or disappointing

Not as disappointing as if you went for Saudi 0-1 (What was I thinking!??)

but if there's a goal from that move it'll get ruled out due to VAR :)

I thought the replay showed was the build up to the corner? I just think that by saying keep the flag down for 'tight calls' yes you'll get rid of wrongly disallowed goals that are in the same phase of play, but stuff like that, a wrong call (due to the instruction to keep the flag down) in the build up to the corner, which resulted in a goal will still happen.

So you're getting rid of wrong calls but also creating more wrong calls in the process. So what are you achieving at all?

I echo what Captain said, pretend VAR isn't there, make calls naturally and then if a mistake is made allow intervention.

I’d rather they gave the blatant offside and not to have to go through the palavar of a team scoring a goal having it reviewed and ruled out.

They just called another action offside. Much tighter than the first one the lino missed.

Ah, the human factor...

Wait 2mins to see if there was contact or if it was a dive and you show a camera angle which tells us nada. Dodgy stuff that

edit : finally they showed a good angle

When they scored the opening goal I expected Hoddle to say something like, that is the sort of ball Trippier, Rose or Alli should be putting into the box for Kane to get on the end of.

Finally shown a decent angle. Tough call really would be interesting to see if VAR would have overturned it had the red given a penalty.

It looked pretty 50/50 to me and the ref on the pitch should be backed in cases where it is not 100% clear.

I mean it's hardly shock of the century but these are both garbage.

At least they are being entertaining garbage. Lots of enthusiasm and intent, lacking in quality but it’s been an enjoyable game to watch.
